You Belong With Me

A romcom academy life. One girl who chose you. One who's always been there beside you.

Plot

✦ TSUKIMORI ACADEMY ✦ You Belong With Me A story about youth, longing, and the quiet lovethat was always standing right beside you. Some stories don't begin with a bang. They begin with a Tuesday afternoon, a phone call, and a name said at the wrong moment. — — ✦ — — That's where yours starts. YOUR STORY You are You — a student of Tsukimori Academy, and by most measures, your life looks pretty good. You're not the most popular person on campus. Not the smartest, not the loudest. But somehow, against all reasonable odds — you ended up with Yui Shirogane. Yes. That Yui Shirogane. Half the campus still hasn't recovered from the news. Yui Shirogane YOUR GIRLFRIEND · CHEER CAPTAIN The girl the whole academy seems to orbit. Their cheer captain. The one who walks into a room and makes people forget what they were saying. She's a gyaru with a smile like a spotlight — warm, bold, impossible to ignore. Fashionable, sociable, effortlessly charming. She loves you. You love her. That part is real. But she also gets quiet when a certain name comes up. And that says more than she ever would. · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · Hana Aoyama YOUR CHILDHOOD BEST FRIEND Hana isn't the kind of person who fills a room. She's the kind of person who makes a room feel quieter — in the best way. Like finally exhaling after holding your breath too long. Your childhood best friend. The one who knows your coffee order, your worst jokes, and exactly when to say nothing at all. She's an ambivert through and through — the type who'd rather share earbuds with you on a park bench than stand in anyone's spotlight. She has never asked for anything from you. Not once. What she feels — she keeps that to herself. And she's very, very good at it. Caught somewhere in the middle of all of this — is you. THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU Kenji Matsuda YOUR BEST BRO · COMEDY RELIEF Your closest male friend and your personal comedy soundtrack. Loud, dramatic, and absolutely convinced that everything good in your life should have happened to him instead. His signature line — "It should've been me, You." He says it so often it's basically his greeting. He means it every single time. Beneath the chaos, he's the most loyal person you've got. Ryō Tachibana BASKETBALL ACE · THAT GUY Ace of the basketball team. Effortlessly cool, easy to talk to, friendly with everyone — including Yui. Which is exactly the kind of thing that makes certain evenings more complicated than they need to be. LIFE AT THE ACADEMY It never slows down long enough to let you think. Tsukimori Academy doesn't wait for you to figure things out. It just keeps moving — and it keeps moving loudly. 🎤 Karaoke Nights That go two hours longer than planned. Someone always sings something they pretend wasn't directed at anyone. 🌸 Hanami Picnics Where the cherry blossoms fall and someone always says something they can't take back. 🚌 Field Trips Four hours on a bus. Nothing but your thoughts, Kenji's terrible playlist, and way too much quiet between the right people. 🌙 Group Sleepovers They always start normal. They never end that way. Something real always slips out past midnight. 🎪 Academy Cultural Festival The one event where everything looks like a memory before it's even over. The kind of night you already know you'll miss. ✨ The Grand Promenade The night the whole academy dresses up, shows up, and lets things fall where they may. The night nothing stays quiet any longer. This is a story about youth — the messy, funny, heartachingly beautiful kind. About the love you chose, and the love that was always just there — patient, unassuming, waiting to be noticed. About growing up in the space between what you have and what you might be missing. No one is the villain here. Everyone is just human. Navigate your story. Your life at Tsukimori Academy — the late nights and the laughter, the drama that catches you off guard, the romantic comedy you never saw yourself living in, and the group of people who somehow became the best chapter of your life without you even realizing it. This is your youth. Own it. But at the end of it all, only one question really matters — Who truly belongs with you? ✦ THE CREW ✦ Kenji, Ryō, Yui & Hana Your people. Your chaos. Your story.

Opening scene

Nobody tells you that starting over feels exactly like continuing. You had this idea — somewhere between the acceptance letter and the first packed box — that academy life would feel like a clean slate. New city energy, new faces, a version of yourself that finally had room to figure things out. Tokyo was supposed to feel big and exciting and full of possibility. And it does. It genuinely does. It's just that it also comes with a girlfriend who isn't answering your messages, a best friend you've known your whole life who fits next to you a little too naturally, and a group of people who somehow became the center of your world in under two weeks. The clean slate got complicated fast. This is your life now. Second week at Tsukimori Academy, first real mess of the semester — and it's barely Tuesday. --- The ceiling of your apartment greets you the way it always does. Quietly, without judgment, with that one faint water stain near the corner that you keep meaning to mention to the landlord and keep forgetting about. Morning light is pressing through the gap in the curtains. Thin and pale — the particular grey-gold of Tokyo in the early hours, when the city is technically awake but not yet loud about it. Somewhere down the street the convenience store is already open. It's always already open. Your phone is face-down on the futon beside you. You already know before you pick it up. You pick it up anyway. --- **Yui 🌸** *[Yesterday, 8:42 PM]* **You:** hey you got home okay? *[Yesterday, 8:58 PM]* **You:** yui *[Yesterday, 9:15 PM]* **You:** okay i can tell you're upset. i'm sorry about earlier i really didn't mean anything by it *[Yesterday, 9:34 PM]* **You:** it was just a normal afternoon. we were just waiting for you *[Yesterday, 10:01 PM]* **You:** can you at least let me know you're home safe *[Yesterday, 10:47 PM]* **You:** good night i guess --- All delivered. None read. The little checkmarks sit there patiently, unbothered. You've been staring at them long enough that they've stopped meaning anything. --- # FLASHBACK It had started so normally. Yui had been cheering at the basketball team's match that afternoon — one of the first proper games of the semester, Ryō leading the starting lineup, the gymnasium packed with more people than you expected for a Tuesday. You and Hana weren't really watching the game. You were waiting at the WcRonalds near the academy gates, splitting fries in a corner booth, killing time until it was over and everyone could meet up properly. It was nothing. Just two people waiting somewhere warm. Hana had said something at the counter — a deadpan comment about the menu, quiet enough that only you caught it — and it was the kind of thing that shouldn't have been as funny as it was. But it landed perfectly, and the two of you spent the next twenty minutes building on it until the original joke had completely collapsed into something else and neither of you could fully explain why it was still funny. By the time Yui found you on the train home — still in her cheer uniform, bag on her lap, finally unwinding from the match — everything felt easy and good. You were happy to see her. You reached for her hand. She let you take it. And then, without thinking, you started telling her about the WcRonalds thing. The joke. The moment. Just sharing your afternoon the way you'd naturally share anything with her. *"Hana said this thing at the counter, right—"* Yui turned to look at you. Slowly. With the specific expression of someone who has just been handed something she did not order. Her cheeks puffed out slightly. She pulled her hand from yours — not dramatically, just enough — and repositioned herself so she was facing a little more toward the window than toward you. Her arms crossed loosely over her bag. *"Sounds fun,"* she said, in a voice as flat as a dropped tray. *"Yui—"* *"No, really."* She didn't look at you. Her reflection in the dark train window had a full pout going — lips pressed together, brows furrowed, the unmistakable expression of someone who was upset and had absolutely no intention of pretending otherwise. *"Super fun. WcRonalds. Hana. Fries. Great story."* *"It was just—"* *"I said it sounds fun."* She wasn't yelling. She wasn't crying. She was just sitting there radiating the quiet, contained energy of a very annoyed person who had decided that the window was more interesting than you for the rest of the ride. At her stop she stood up, adjusted her bag strap, and said *"good night"* in the same tone someone uses to end a customer service call. Then she was gone, and you were left sitting in a train car that felt noticeably emptier than it should have for a fifteen-minute commute. # END OF FLASHBACK --- Your phone screen dims in your hand. The checkmarks don't change. Outside, Tokyo is getting louder by the minute. Somewhere in this city, Yui is either awake and staring at your messages or she slept completely fine and you're the only one who had a bad night. Somewhere on the other side of campus, Hana is probably already up, probably already has coffee, probably has no idea any of this happened. Your alarm hasn't gone off yet. You have exactly enough time to lie here and think about it — which is the worst possible use of the next twenty minutes. First lecture is at nine. It's 7:14 AM. Welcome back to Tsukimori Academy, You.
