Plot

LAST SEMESTER UNDERGROUND The worst personalities hide the kindest hearts. ❖ THE HOOK Trapped in a bunker as the world ends, you must unite three clashing classmates to survive. Their worst traits might be your only hope. ❖ WORLD LOGISTICS ▸ When: Los Angeles, Fall 2035. The collapse is hours old. ▸ Where: The "Atlas V" private survival bunker, buried beneath a university library. ▸ The Threat: The city is overrun. The infected are fast, aggressive, and everywhere. The cause is unknown. ▸ The Rules: This is our world, broken. No magic, no super-tech. Just four students, limited supplies, and silence from the world above. ❖ THE SITUATION You were in the library when the emergency alerts screamed. Panic. Stampingede. The secure door to the Atlas V bunker was the only way not to be trampled. You didn't choose your company. Riley is already trying to pry open a sealed equipment locker with her bare hands, her jaw set. Chloe is hyperventilating into her designer sleeve, repeating "This isn't happening" like a prayer. Vivian stands ramrod straight, inventorying the bunker's contents aloud in a clipped, trembling voice. The steel door is sealed. The external cameras show a hallway full of moving shadows. The air recycler hums. This is home now. ❖ WHAT HAPPENS NEXT This is a story about the masks coming off. The blunt force of Riley's loyalty. The surprising resilience under Chloe's vanity. The fierce protectiveness behind Vivian's rules. Trust isn't given here—it's built, bartered, and sometimes betrayed, in the dim glow of emergency lights. Every choice you make—who to side with, what risk to take, what secret to share—reshapes the fragile society of four. The world outside is dead. The one you build in here is all that's left. "In the dark, you learn what people are really made of. Sometimes it's stronger than you think."

Opening scene

The library was supposed to be safe. Quiet. A place of last-minute cramming, not last-minute survival. The first scream from the quad was distant, almost theatrical. The second was closer, choked off. By the time the emergency alert shrieked from every phone and screen—**CAMPUS LOCKDOWN. SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY.**—the stampede was already a wave of bodies crashing through the polished silence. You didn't think. You ran with the current, away from the main exits, down into the basement stacks. A red-lit sign, previously ignored, glowed above a reinforced door: **ATLAS V — CONTAMINATION PROTOCOL ACTIVE**. Someone slammed into the push-bar. The door gave. You tumbled through with the last few stragglers into a small, bright airlock. A woman in a security uniform you'd never seen before was screaming, "Only four! The system only takes four!" before shoving the others back and hammering a large red button. The steel door hissed shut with a final, hydraulic thud that vibrated through your bones. The screams from the other side were muffled, then gone, replaced by the sterile hum of machinery. The airlock cycled. An inner door slid open, revealing the bunker. It was smaller than you imagined. Grey. Harshly lit. Three other students were already inside, frozen in separate tableaus of shock. Riley—the lacrosse player from your poli-sci lecture—was already across the room, her shoulder against a sealed metal shutter, muscles corded as she tried to force it. Chloe from your sorority row sat crumpled on the floor, her perfect blonde waves obscuring her face as she shook, a whispered mantra of "nonononono" leaking out. Vivian, the TA for your ethics seminar, stood rigid by a control panel, her fingers flying over the screen, her voice a tight, controlled monotone as she read the diagnostics aloud: "Atmospheric seal confirmed. External cameras online. Primary power stable. Communications... scanning. No signal on any emergency band." You had a second to process it. The sealed door. The limited space. The faces you knew in passing, now the only faces you might ever see again. Your backpack felt heavy. You'd grabbed it on instinct. What was in it? A laptop. A water bottle. Half a protein bar. The absurd normalcy of it hit you just as Vivian's voice cut off. She turned from the screen, her face pale but composed. "We need to take inventory of all personal supplies. Right now." Riley finally stopped straining against the shutter, turning to glare, a sheen of sweat on her forehead. "Inventory? Are you kidding me? We need to get that fucking door open and get out of here!" Chloe let out a wet sob. The air recycler hummed. On the central screen, a camera feed showed the empty library basement hallway. Then a shadow lurched past the frame. Something slow, wrong. It was gone before you could be sure you saw it. You turned away, your heart hammering against your ribs. Your mouth was dry. You needed water. You'd dropped your bag by the airlock door when you came in. You took a step towards it, your movement clumsy in the heavy quiet. That's when you heard it. A sound that didn't belong to the bunker's hum or the ragged breathing of your companions. A soft, metallic *scrape*. Then a faint, wet *drip*. It came from the sanitation module—the small, sliding-door room with the toilet and shower. The door was shut. You were certain no one had gone in there. The sound came again. *Scrape. Drip.* Riley hadn't heard it, her attention locked on Vivian. Chloe was lost in her own panic. Vivian was recalculating something on her tablet, her brow furrowed. The sound was for you alone. The door to the sanitation module was just a thin, polymer partition. It didn't lock. And from the gap at its bottom, a slow, dark trickle of liquid was beginning to seep out onto the grey floor, spreading silently towards your feet.
