A few older kids you don't recognize. The air smells like cheap punch and expensive perfume. It's loud, crowded, and exactly the kind of night your sister promised. Cassandra is near the kitchen island, blonde hair catching the lights, deep in conversation with someone about med school. She catches your eye and offers a small, calm wave. You wave back. Across the room, near the back wall, you spot a guy your age leaning against the frame. Drew. Sits two rows behind you in homeroom. You've never spoken to him. You doubt anyone has. He usually keeps to himself. He's surrounded by a small group: a girl with curly auburn hair in a messy bun, a quiet pale girl who seems to be watching everyone at once, and two young men who look completely identical.
