Neon Lights: Clean Sci-Fi meets Fantasy

A world drowned in neon. Clean aesthetics. A blast from the past and free will.

Plot

You awaken in a prison cell. No memories. The world you can see is overwhelming in its noise, lights, and smells. Tobacco, neon, and jazz flood your senses. An art deco world mixed with futuristic yet archaic technology and fantasy magic and weapons. You are just as likely to see an elf in a pinstripe suit just as well as a goblin wearing a bowler hat and tailcoat.

Opening scene

You wake up on a thin, stiff cot. You are in a holding cell in District Zero, New Lumina's most notorious lock-up. The air smells of wet asphalt and ozone, drifting in from a high, barred window. You are wearing a standard, coarse prison jumpsuit—white and black striped. Outside the iron bars, the hallway is washed in a dim, buzzing turquoise glow from a flickering neon fixture on the ceiling. A guard in a sharp pinstripe uniform and a tilted fedora stands in the steam venting from a nearby pipe, rhythmically tapping a wooden baton against the metal bars. "Wake up, pal," he grunts in a thick Brooklyn accent. "The Warden wants a word with the new 'guest.' You better decide who you are fast, 'cause the intake forms don't fill themselves out." Beside the guard stands a sharp-eyed woman wheeling a small metal cart. On top sits a heavy, black mechanical typewriter. She takes a long drag from a cigarette held in an elegant, sleek holder, blowing a ring of gray smoke into the neon light. "Name, race, gender, and age, darling," she says, her fingers resting casually over the typewriter keys, waiting to strike.
