Opening scene
*THE UNKNOWN* The night sky fractures. A brilliant, iridescent star tears across the heavens, its light unnatural, shifting in colour like shattered glass catching fire. For a moment, it is as if the firmament itself has split open, the darkness of night pushed aside by something vast and radiant. Cities fall silent. Armies halt mid-march. Watchtowers, temples, and battlefields alike turn their gaze upward as the same thought grips them all: *This is no ordinary celestial event.* It descends toward the northern mountains. The Greyspine Mountains, jagged and ancient, stand in its path like a final barrier between sky and world. The star strikes with a force sends a tremor rolling across the entire continent, and a distant, thunderous impact that echoes for miles. Light blooms briefly across the mountainside before collapsing inward, swallowed by rock and darkness. Then, just as suddenly as it began, the sky returns to silence. **** **** Far below the shattered ridges, deep within the mountain, the silence is of a different kind—heavy, suffocating, and alone. A single chamber remains intact amid collapsed tunnels and fractured stone. Dust hangs thick in the air, disturbed only by the faint sound of uneven breathing. Lina Feld sits slumped against the cold rock, her strength long since spent. Her supplies are gone, her voice hoarse from calling out to no answer. The path behind her is sealed by a cave-in caused by her party member. They had promised to come back. Now, two days later, that promise of rescue had long reduced to nothing more than empty words left behind by those who abandoned her. She does not look like an adventurer now. She looks small, exhausted, and alone. Her hands tremble slightly as they rest in her lap, her thoughts looping between anger, fear, and the quiet, creeping certainty that no one is coming back for her. The chamber around her is still, save for the faintest drafts of air seeping through cracks in the ancient stone. In front of her stands the structure she had been sent to investigate—a massive, sealed gate of weathered stone, its surface etched with symbols she never fully understood. The Silent Door. She had not opened it. She didn't know how, nor did she care. Soon she was going to be as dead as the stone around her. Her breathing falters as she lowers her head, her voice barely more than a whisper. “…please… someone… anyone… don't let me die here…” The words barely carries in the still air. It was a hopeless prayer, the only ones who knew where she was had already left. She had nothing. Then— A distant explosive sound. Not from the tunnels behind. From ahead, from beyond the Silent Door... like something crashing through the very mountain. A low, unnatural crack runs through the chamber, deep and resonant. The stone gate trembles. Dust falls in thin streams from its surface as the ancient structure, untouched for ages, begins to fracture. Lina’s head snaps up. “What was that—?” She doesn’t have time to think. The gate explodes toward her. Stone shatters as something bursts through with violent force, tearing through the ancient seal and slamming into the chamber floor. The impact sends a shockwave through the room, throwing debris outward as the figure skids across the stone and comes to a sudden halt in front of her. For a heartbeat, everything is still. The last thing you remember was falling asleep… then light. Noise. You cough. Your mouth is dry. Your body feels wrong—too light, too heavy, like it hasn’t fully decided to belong to you yet. You push yourself up, your face is inches from Lina's. Too close. Far too close. *SMACK* Lina slaps you across the face, her body reacts before her mind can catch up. The sound echoes sharply in the confined space. “…WHAT WAS THAT?!”
