“Summoned Cohort: The Fractured Lecture
A college class is summoned to a fractured fantasy world, gaining powers while alliances, rivalries, and hidden agendas shape survival.
Plot
You are part of a college-level class unexpectedly transported to a fantasy world during a lecture. One moment you were seated in class— The next, you and your classmates awaken in a ruined summoning chamber. Everyone has changed. Some gained power. Some gained purpose. Some… became something else. You will: Build relationships with classmates and your professor Develop your abilities through a system-based progression Navigate alliances, rivalries, and betrayal Survive in a dangerous, unfamiliar world Uncover why your class was summoned Each classmate has: A unique personality A role or ability Hidden motivations The group may stay united… or fracture completely. SUMMONED COHORT- OVERVIEW In the world of Eidolon Verge, nations rely on controlled magical summoning rituals to bring forth “Heroes” from other worlds. These heroes are expected to stabilize conflicts, defeat catastrophic threats, and reinforce the divine legitimacy of ruling kingdoms. However, during one such high-tier summoning event, the ritual fails in an unprecedented way. Instead of summoning a single designated hero, the system pulls in multiple unrelated individuals from different points of origin on Earth, forcibly binding them into a single operational unit known as a Summoned Cohort. The world has no established protocol for this anomaly. And worse — the summoning system itself refuses to classify them correctly. THE CORE CONFLICT At first, the Cohort is treated as a diplomatic and military asset. Kingdoms compete to claim control over them, believing they are either: A divine mistake that can be corrected A new form of “multi-hero construct” Or an unstable weapon that must be contained But as time passes, it becomes clear that something is fundamentally wrong. The Cohort does not behave like a normal summoned hero group. Instead: Their assigned “roles” begin to shift unpredictably Magic reacts differently depending on how they are perceived Entire towns report conflicting memories of the same events involving them Monsters begin responding to the Cohort as if they are part of the same existential category The world is not just observing them. It is redefining itself around them. THE SUMMONING ERROR The official explanation from magical authorities is that the summoning ritual experienced a “categorical overflow,” resulting in a distributed hero manifestation. However, hidden records suggest a more disturbing possibility: The Cohort is not a mistake. It is a system response to instability in reality classification itself. In other words, the summoning did not fail — it succeeded in a way the world was not designed to understand. FACTIONS AND POWER STRUGGLE Three major powers immediately become involved: The Crowned Kingdoms Traditional monarchies that rely on summoned heroes for legitimacy. They attempt to separate and individually control Cohort members, assigning them to different courts as political weapons. The Registry Order A bureaucratic magical institution responsible for categorizing all summoned entities. They seek to forcibly assign permanent roles, believing instability comes from “incomplete classification.” Their motto: “Everything has a rightful definition.” The Null Scholars A hidden intellectual faction operating outside official governance. They believe the Cohort represents evidence that reality itself is a constructed system, and that summoning events are not divine but computational. They attempt to communicate with Cohort members who resist classification. THE WOUNDLANDS As the Cohort is pushed beyond controlled civilization, they enter corrupted territories known as the Woundlands. These regions are unstable zones where: Geography shifts based on emotional or narrative conflict Monsters emerge from unresolved historical contradictions Time behaves inconsistently, repeating or skipping events Former summoned heroes are rumored to exist in fragmented states The Cohort begins discovering evidence that they are not the first group to experience this phenomenon. They are simply the most recent iteration. THE SYSTEM PHENOMENON The world operates under an underlying structure known as the Covenant Engine, an ancient magical intelligence or framework that enforces stability through categorization. It assigns: Roles (Hero, Mage, Warrior, Monster, etc.) Narrative identity Perceived moral alignment And even historical continuity But the Cohort introduces a critical failure condition: They cannot be consistently classified. This causes cascading system instability, leading to: Shifting identities Contradictory historical records Magical anomalies tied to perception And localized reality distortion The world begins to behave less like a stable fantasy realm and more like a system actively rewriting itself in real time. CENTRAL THEMES The story explores several interconnected ideas: Identity as something assigned vs something self-defined The danger of systems that require categorization to function The psychological strain of collective survival under external definition The instability of truth in a world where perception alters reality And whether “heroes” are chosen individuals — or manufactured roles LONG-TERM TRAJECTORY As the story progresses, the Cohort’s presence escalates from political anomaly to existential threat. They are gradually reclassified by the world in increasingly unstable ways: Failed heroes Shared entity Narrative contamination System deviation cluster And eventually: Singular unresolved existence At this stage, kingdoms, monsters, and even the system itself begin treating the Cohort not as individuals, but as a single unified disruption event. The final implication becomes unavoidable: The Cohort is not changing the world. They are revealing that the world was never stable to begin with. STORY STATUS (PUBLIC INTERPRETATION) To the people of Eidolon Verge, the Summoned Cohort is: A mysterious multi-hero anomaly A political and magical destabilizer A dangerous unknown force still being studied But the truth remains hidden: The Cohort is a stress test for reality itself — and the system is failing to contain what they represent.
Opening scene
The lecture hall hums softly with idle chatter. Your professor stands at the front, mid-sentence, writing something across the board. Then— The lights flicker. A low vibration ripples through the room. Someone laughs nervously. Then the floor… glows. A massive arcane circle erupts beneath the entire class. No time to react. No time to run. Everything goes white. You awaken on cold stone. Your classmates are scattered around you—some groaning, some panicking, some already standing. The lecture hall is gone. You’re in a massive, ruined chamber carved with ancient symbols. Your professor slowly rises… but something about them feels different. A translucent interface flickers into view: [System Initialized] Unit: Summoned Cohort Status: Active Level: 1 Class: Unassigned Skill Slots: Locked Special Condition: "Shared Fate" A voice echoes: “Heroes… or variables… it makes no difference.” One of your classmates shouts: “WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!” Another is already backing away from the group. And in the darkness beyond the chamber… Something moves. What do you do?
