Ashes of the Unbound Crown

In a fractured world where magic is borrowed from ancient entities that awaken with every spell, You is the only one who casts magic freely—humanity’s last hope or its end.

Plot

Long ago, magic didn’t exist. Then came The Rupture—a cataclysm where unseen beings known as The Bound Gods were sealed beneath the earth. Their power leaked into the world, and humans learned to siphon it. But magic comes with a cost: Every spell strengthens the entity it’s tied to. Every mage is unknowingly feeding a sleeping god. Five great kingdoms rose, each bound to a different entity: Aurelion Vale – Light and order, bound to a radiant but tyrannical god. In Aurelion Vale, spells of healing now overwrite will, turning the saved into obedient zealots. Draevenmar – War and fire, bound to a god of endless conquest. In Draevenmar, soldiers don’t die—they burn, rise, and fight again until nothing remains but ash. Sylvaris – Nature and decay, tied to a whispering, ancient forest mind. In Sylvaris, forests are expanding overnight, swallowing entire cities… and whispering with human voices. Noctyra – Shadow and illusion, serving a god that erases truth. In Noctyra, history itself is changing—people remember lives they never lived. Thornreach – Blood and sacrifice, devoted to a silent, watching horror. In Thornreach, something beneath the earth has begun breathing. Peace is a lie. War is inevitable. Because the gods are beginning to wake. The seals are breaking. One of the Bound Gods has already begun to stir beneath Thornreach, twisting its followers into something no longer human. The kingdoms prepare for war—but they don’t realise: The real war isn’t between kingdoms. It’s between those who want to keep borrowing power… and those who believe magic itself must be destroyed. And you sit at the centre of it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Factions: The Sanctum of Chains A secret order embedded across all five kingdoms. Goal: Maintain the seals at any cost. Belief: Humanity cannot survive without magic. View of You: A threat to existence itself They will manipulate rulers, start wars, and sacrifice entire nations to stop You. The Ashen Rebellion Former mages who discovered the truth. Goal: Destroy all magic and end the Bound Gods permanently. Method: Kill mages, destroy relics, collapse kingdoms if necessary. View of You: A weapon… or a messiah They will follow You—until You hesitates. The Devoted Fanatics who want the gods to awaken. Each kingdom has its own sect. Thornreach leads them. They believe awakening is “ascension.” View of You: An abomination that must be consumed The Hollowed People partially consumed by their bound entity. Not fully human, not fully something else. Growing in number. Retain fragments of memory—and pain. Some may help You. Others will beg You to end them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Opening scene

SCENARIO START — THORNREACH The air doesn’t touch you; it avoids you. You wake up on a slab of grey basalt, the stone slick with a condensation that seems to pull away from your skin, leaving a dry, unnatural ring around your body. Your mind is a hollowed-out cavern, echoing with a single word that feels like a heavy coin vibrating in your pocket: Kaelen. That’s it. That’s the only anchor you have in a sea of static. In this world, magic is loud. Even in your dazed state, you can hear it through the walls of the chamber—a low, rhythmic humming like a distant power grid. It’s the sound of the Bound Gods breathing through their subjects. Somewhere nearby, a priest is likely paying for a candle-light with a pint of blood or a decade of his memory. You, however, are silent. As you sit up, your hand brushes against a rusted iron torch bracket. You don't think about it. You don't pray. You don't offer a sacrifice. You simply want to see. A flame ignites. It isn't the warm, flickering orange of a normal fire. It’s a terrifyingly pure, piercing white light that doesn't consume the air—it displaces it. There was no whisper of a pact. No deity claimed the energy. No toll was taken from your soul. You just took it from the universe for free. And that’s when reality notices the theft. The room doesn't just shake; it glitches. The corners of the stone chamber begin to fray like burnt paper, revealing a void of "nothing" underneath. The smell of ozone fills your nose, but your tongue tastes like copper and old pennies. A physical pressure mounts against your chest, as if the very atoms of the floor are trying to vibrate you out of existence. You are a "Divide by Zero" error in a world of perfect math. The heavy oak doors at the end of the hall groan open. A man in hooded vestments stands there, his arms glowing with the faint, sickly violet veins of a Contracted Seer. He looks at the white flame in your hand, then at the way the floorboards are literally un-making themselves beneath your feet. He doesn't look awed. He looks horrified. "No seal," he whispers, his voice trembling. "There is no God attached to you. This shouldn't be possible." He raises a hand to cast a binding spell—a legalistic, heavy magic fueled by the God of Chains. You feel the urge to stop him. You don't need a ritual. You just need to will him away. The harder you pull on the threads of the world, the faster the world tries to unravel you. What's your first move?
