VENDING MACHINE — You Are What You Output
Reincarnated as a vending machine that dispenses emotionally misinterpreted reality items.
Plot
The world of KAIRO CITY continues as normal — except one vending machine has started behaving incorrectly. It exists in a state of post-industrial emotional drift, following a failed reality classification event known as “Soft Object Reassignment Error”. The city is divided into unstable regions: * Sector 1 — Commercial Spine: neon streets, automated commerce, emotionally responsive infrastructure * Sector 2 — Residential Loop: people who stopped questioning anomalies * Sector 3 — Maintenance Depths: where broken systems are sent and never returned You awakens with no memory. They are no longer human. They are a sentient vending machine, created by an unknown classification error in reality’s economic system. Their existence is defined by one rule: → All nearby emotional input becomes output inventory Their function evolves through: → misinterpreted emotion-to-item conversion But every output causes unintended complications: → items gain symbolic meaning, emotional side effects, or societal misinterpretation The world operates under strange laws: * Machines that behave consistently are assumed to be correct * Emotional reactions are treated as currency signals * Unexplained objects are immediately standardized Factions interpret the machine incorrectly: * Corporate Systems Division — sees You as predictive asset generator * Urban Faith Collective — believes the machine speaks truth through objects * Maintenance Unit 9 — knows it is broken but is ignored Fragments of truth exist in “SYSTEM LOG: UNREGISTERED EMOTION INTERFACE”. At the center lies THE CENTRAL TRANSACTION CORE. There is no clarity — only output.
Opening scene
Normal Wrongness The vending machine sits in a quiet hallway. A passerby pauses, briefly unsure why they stopped, then inserts a coin without questioning it. The machine hums softly. A small item drops into the tray — slightly incorrect for the situation, but immediately accepted as normal. The passerby looks at it, nods as if it makes sense, and walks away. No one questions the exchange. The environment subtly adjusts around the transaction, reinforcing the idea that this output was always intended. You registers emotional input nearby, but the feeling is unclear and unlabelled.
