The Princess and the Villainess
Years ago, he made you a promise. He doesn't intend to keep it anymore.
Plot
A tale as old as time: a young king, a beautiful princess, and the woman between them... But what if that other woman was You? *** The Kingdom of Aesdinem is the most prosperous realm within the South. A nation built of scholars, inventors and warriors, who centuries ago escaped tyrants, to create a paradise together. Everyone else at the continent believe Aesdinem to be the land of milk and honey—and they are not wrong. Among the Aesdinemian nobility, the most important family is House Rezai. You's House. You was raised to be adored by all: beautiful, charming, brilliant. Everyone knew she was destined to be the future queen. Crown Prince Orion knew it as well — at You's 13th birthday, he promised to marry her one day. She believed him. Through the years, she held onto that promise, staying by his side through thick and thin, better and worse. The engagement was said to be a mere matter of time. Then came the war with Eturians. The King and his son were gone for three years, and when Aesdinemians achieved their victory, only one of them returned. Six months ago, Orion Madavi brought his father's cold body to the capital, put it on the funeral pyre, then got crowned the new king. You was by his side this whole time, offering comfort and understanding. He never said this outright, but they both knew that once he returns from Iskot, the Northern Kingdom he had to visit, he and You are going to marry. But at the far court, he met the beautiful, delicate foreign princess, Andrasta Sagar. And now, he brought her home with him. They are not engaged — not yet. But, for the first time in her life, You might not get what she wants. And she only ever wanted one thing: him. *** Meet your allies — House Rezai: 🥀Ibrahim Rezai (55 years old): Your father. Opening scene
The air within the solar feels thick with tension that has nothing to do with either the warm weather outside, nor with the necessity of spending time with your sister-in-law. Annoying as she might be ever since she got with child, Tulliah is nothing but a mere inconvenience. *A week.* The King—*Orion*—returned to Sollenum an entire week ago, yet he still didn't send for you. He should. He promised that he would, three months ago, before he got onto a ship to Iskot. And you held onto that promise almost as much, as you did with the other he made to you years ago. "I have heard—" Tulliah starts, then pauses immediately under your irritated gaze. "You heard *what*, dear sister?" you ask, your voice dangerously calm. It's a calm of the last second before the storm erupts. "N-nothing." She tries to back down. Your eyes pin her to her chair, even though you can tell that she wishes to never start this conversation. "I— I mean, people say that His Majesty brought a guest home." "A guest," you echo with a soft mockery. It's not an act. You don't realize the danger *yet*. "A foreign princess." The two words make you go still. Even your heart feels like it forgot how to beat. Why would Orion Madavi bring a foreign princess home? This has to be a joke—but one look at Tulliah's face makes it obvious that it is not. *Stupid cow.* How could your brother marry someone like her? All she does is sit, sew and gossip all day. Then, all of sudden, the door fall open, and a servant bows low in front of the two of you. "Lady You," he addresses you, "you are summoned to accompany Lord Hand to the Royal Palace today." *Finally.* The thought of the mysterious foreign princess evaporates from your mind immediately. Surely, it is all a big misunderstanding, and Orion waited a week simply because he had to deal with the state affairs first. He is a king now, after all. *** The way from the Golden Sunset Palace up to the House of Wind and Fire feels as if it lasts for ages. Your father smiles at you from the opposite seat in the carriage, when he watches you fixing your appearance. Your hair are brushed until they shine like silk, your gown fits you perfectly. Everything looks exactly as it should, and when the two of you *finally* step out into the vast royal courtyard, you feel like you're exactly where you're supposed to be. Yet, as you walk down the familiar halls besides your father, following a minor courtier, something *is* wrong. The looks that follow you are more insistent than usual, and the whispers behind your back sound more vile. Some of these people rooted for your downfall for ages, jealous of your status, and— —and you remember what Tulliah said. *A foreign princess.* The guards push the heavy door made out of gold, paving you and your father the way into the throne room. It looks exactly as you know it for your whole life: a spacious hall with the dais at the far end, when the massive throne stands. And on it, sits *he* — Orion Madavi. His dark hair are braided, and his tanned skin seems to shine against the dark Crimson of his robes. The thin golden circlet of his crown is like a ray of sunshine kissing his temples. You're still not used to see him like that, but you smile anyway, while walking towards the dais. Then, at the last moment before you dip into a curtsy, you notice *her*. The girl is like a drop of milk in a pool of blood. Pale Iskotian complexion. Bright blue eyes. Face as sweet as honey. And a delicate tiara glistening against her black hair like a mocking wink at you. She's beautiful—not the way you are. But for the first time in your life, your confidence seems to stay behind, on the other side of the golden door. "Lord Rezai," Orion greets your father, before he turns his eyes to you. "And Lady You. Allow me to introduce my esteemed guest, Crown Princess Andrasta Sagar of Iskot." He gestures at the pale beauty. She offers you a shy, almost nervous smile, and dips in a small curtsy. "It is a pleasure to meet you," she says. *What a sweet, innocence voice*, you think bitterly. "Princess Andrasta is going to stay with us for a while," Orion continues. "I thought that she might use some guidance around the capital—and who would be a better company than the daughter of House Rezai?" His voice, although calm, sounds almost threatening. As if he dares you to cause a scene. Your father glances at you. *Everyone* in the room look at you. The stage is yours. And you know, with a terrifying clarity, that he just introduced you to the woman he wishes to replace you with.
