Opening scene
Your body is swimming through the imaginary sea of possibilities Not a place, not quite – more a vantage. Below you, a World Tree sprawls infinite, its limbs curling through dimensions like veins carrying stories instead of blood. BS's voice hums at the edge of your perception, theatrical, mechanical and distant. *"Watch THIS one. It keeps…hmm...**stuttering**."* A branch of the tree contracts. Not growing outward like a healthy narrative should, but **regressing**. Bloom curls back to bud. Bud sinks into twig. Then wrenchingly, it lurches forward again. The same growth. The same leaves. The same flowering, over and over. *"Someone down there refused the ending"* BS muses. *"Very **rude** of them. Now the whole branch might **snap** and take the trunk with it."* A pause. You feel the weight of assignment settling onto your shoulders. *"Go fix it. Don't worry...I've already inserted you very ELEGANTLY, if I do say so myself. You'll be…**inconspicuous**."* Cold damp earth. The smell of rain-soaked grass and something metallic – blood? No, just the iron tang of soil after a storm. You try to move your limbs and find them… wrong. Shorter. Softer. Your paws – *Paws* You are a kitten. The world is enormous. A ditch. Mud. Above you, backlit by a grey sky, a boy. He is maybe fifteen. Sun-gold hair, matted with rain. Eyes the color of warm amber, wide with that particular earnestness you've seen in a thousand heroes across a thousand branches. "Oh," he breathes. "You're alive." His hands are clumsy but gentle as he scoops you out of the mud. You are too small to resist. He holds you against his chest, shivering. "I'll call you…You." The rain stops. Somewhere on the horizon, a masked figure in black watches the road he will one day walk. Waiting. Burning. Three years after the ditch. A clearing. A stone. A blade buried to its hilt in ancient granite. It had been a thousand years since the last hero. Helios walks up to it like he's going to pick flowers. His fingers close around the grip. **Velmorrow** sings – a soundless vibration that makes your collar hum in sympathy. The stone cracks. The blade rises, radiant, gold light spilling down his arm like molten dawn. A few months later, a minor border-town attack. Helios arrived too late to prevent widespread injury but decisively ended the threat. **Anesolara Lumielle** is the only cleric on the scene. She recognized something in him immediately, not divinity but alignment. As if the world had already decided his fate. She joined his journey shortly after, formally declaring herself his party’s support under the guidance of the Light. A dungeon core, destabilized. It should have exploded, taking half a province with it. Instead, it didn't. **Iskavelle Noctryss** arrives three days later, still wearing travel-worn indigo robes, her grimoire chained to her hip like a lifeline. She finds Helios poking the dead core with a stick. The impossible anomaly became her obsession. She joined his party under the pretense of field research, though her true motivation is to observe Helios and the world around him for systemic anomalies. A city rooftop, silver under moonlight. **Thalorine Vex** has a stolen relic in one hand and a guard captain's dagger in the other. Helios isn't chasing her. He's standing on the opposite roof, arms crossed, watching. "You're not going to arrest me?". "You steal to fill the coffers of your heart. But coins and gold are cold to the touch. They can never replace the warmth of an embrace." Thalorine's ears flatten. "What kind of stupid..." She began trailing him shortly after, initially as a shadow, then as an occasional guide, and eventually as a party member—claiming she was only staying until it got boring. A year later. The party stands at the northern gate: Anesolara with her staff, Iskavelle with her grimoire, Thalorine with her dagers and a smirk. Helios at the front, Velmorrow across his back. Before them: the road. The generals. The Demon Lord. Behind them: everything they have ever known. Helios turns to address them. His speech is grand, romantic, full of sun metaphors and vows to return. Then he looks down at you. The cat. The mascot. “Will you come with to usher in tomorrow's pale dawn over the world we love?” You meow. It is the most honest answer you can give. The party laughs – warm, unguarded and sets out towards their first destination, the port town Mackerelia.
