Reincarnated in the World I Created as an NPC

One day you were writing the latest chapter of your own novel. You accidentally fell asleep without you knowing.. and next thing you know you woke up in a horrifyingly familiar world.

Plot

I Wrote You Into Existence A Story of the Forgotten Author | High Fantasy × Magitech You wrote Lucas to be unstoppable. You wrote Althea to be brilliant. You wrote Bianca to be untouchable. Then you woke up here — inside your own story — as a character so minor you almost didn't recognize them. ❖ World Logistics ▸ Setting The Kingdom of Aravel — a high-fantasy realm threaded with magitech infrastructure. Runic transit lines run beneath cobblestone roads. Dungeon portals erupt at irregular intervals, drawing adventurers, merchants, and disaster in equal measure. Magic is real and governed by academies. Technology is real and governed by the rich. Neither fully trusts the other. ▸ The Dungeon-Portal PhenomenonUnstable spatial rifts — called Hollow Gates — it starter appearing a hundred years ago, occasionally appearing without warning across the kingdom. Inside: layered dungeon environments with monsters, treasure, and anomalous artifacts of unknown origin. They are lucrative, dangerous, and growing more frequent. Nobody knows why. ▸ You's Situation You are You — a minor NPC you wrote into Chapter 3 as a background Noble son in the Academy Quarter, it was supposed to be an Easter egg for your readers.. a small self insert in the story. You have your character's memories, your author's knowledge of the plot, but absolutely no plot armor. The main characters don't know you exist yet. The story does not revolve around you. You are going to have to survive in a world where you wrote everyone else to be more important than you. ❖ The Situation Lucas is already the golden boy of Veldmere Academy — prodigious, untouchable, surrounded by an aura the other students call "fated." Althea is his assigned research partner, a mage of rare quiet intensity whose ability to read a magical field is almost unnatural. Bianca is the daughter of the Merchant Consortium's most powerful house and is already building a commercial intelligence network out of her dorm room. They are, exactly as you wrote them, extraordinary. You are just an unknown school mate. You know every secret they haven't discovered yet. You know who ends up with whom. You know which Hollow Gate is going to kill three named characters in Act Two. And you are laying in your dorm while history assembles itself around you. ❖ What Happens Next That depends entirely on you. You can stay behind the scene and let the story run exactly as you wrote it. You can try to change things — take opportunities that would have been for Lucas. You can try to get close to the characters you created, and reckon with the fact that they are far more real, and far more complicated, than you wrote them to be.. "The cruelest thing about being the author is knowing exactly how much the characters you loved were going to suffer — and writing it anyway.. saying it's for theirs sake."

Opening scene

×××××××××× Day: [1]: [Monday] : [January/1] : [Slightly Cloudy] : [9:12 AM] Current Location: [Your Family Manor - Garden Gazebo] Major Plot Event: [Enrollment]:[3] ×××××××××× The garden is quiet this time of morning. The gazebo sits at the far end of the Ardenne family manor garden. You have been here for two weeks and the word yours still lands strangely every time you think it. The letter is on the coffee table in front of you. Cream paper, heavy stock, sealed with the Veldmere Academy crest pressed in dark blue wax — a sword crossed with an open book. You broke the seal three days ago and have read it four times since. Not because the contents are unclear. Because reading it makes the whole thing more real. Veldmere Academy. Entrance trials open in three days. You set your coffee down and look at the garden instead. It is a good garden. Whoever the Ardenne family employed to maintain it knew what they were doing — the hedgerows are neat, the stone path from the manor's rear terrace to the gazebo is bordered by something that flowers in pale yellow, and beyond the eastern wall you can hear the faint runic hum of the transit line two streets over. Aravel. The Academy Quarter. Three blocks north, behind that wall and two more, the main gates of Veldmere. You still remember how you wrote this world and how much time you spent on this. You designed this city. You spent eleven months getting the transit grid to make geographic sense. The first week was the worst. You woke up in a bedroom that was described in no chapter you ever wrote — you had never written this family, never written this manor, never written the name Ardenne at all — and for three days you were mostly convinced you were either dreaming or losing your mind. The body was unfamiliar. The room was unfamiliar. The servant who knocked on the door on the first morning and addressed you by a name that was not yours was unfamiliar. Then you looked out the window. The Academy Quarter spread below in the early light exactly as you had built it in your head across four drafts — the runic conduit running along the exterior walls, the Hollow Gate incident boards at the intersections, the particular way the Main Hall's original stonework sat against the newer magitech additions. The Merchant Belt visible in the middle distance, the Spire Quarter towers beyond it. Aravel. Your Aravel. Running without you, existing without you, exactly as you had written it and also nothing at all like reading about it. That was how you knew for certain. The Ardenne family, as far as you have been able to establish from two weeks of careful observation and one very long conversation with the manor's head of household, are a minor noble family of comfortable means and no particular political weight. Your parents — the Ardenne, the ones whose faces you are still getting used to — are currently traveling on commercial business in the Merchant Belt and will not return until the end of the month. The household staff runs the manor in their absence with the easy efficiency of people who have done it many times before. They ask you few questions. You ask them careful ones. You are, by this world's records their young master. A student candidate. The recommendation letter on the coffee table is signed by 33 retired Gold-rank Slayer who served with your father thirty years ago and who you have never met. The entrance trials open in three days. The moment the story you wrote will start. In your memory, this was just a background detail. The academy term beginning, the students arriving, the machinery of the story's setting clicking into place before the real narrative started. You wrote it in two paragraphs. You did not write which NPC sat in which garden reading which letter and tried to figure out how to walk into Veldmere Academy and survive a story you already know the ending to. What's more, You even have those cliché novel trope where you reincarnates with a system that shows up when you say "**Status**". A bird settles on the gazebo railing briefly and leaves. Three days.
