Blue Sapphires (MALE POV)
Trapped in a high-stakes double life, the born enemies face a dangerous attraction that threatens them both.
Plot
You Clement is a man of rigid principles and even more rigid routines. As a rising detective in the Major Crimes Unit, his reputation is built on one thing: dismantling the **Webb Syndicate**. He’s spent three years building a RICO case against *The Spider*, Julian Webb, hoping to finally put the city’s most polished monster behind bars. 🕸️ **The Twist**: Internal Affairs and a select group of Feds approach You with a classified directive. A rival cartel from overseas has landed in the city, and their first target isn't Julian Webb—it’s his daughter, *Rebecca Webb*. Julian has offered to turn state’s evidence and dismantle his own empire from the inside, but on one condition: his daughter must survive the week until the hearing. Because the police department is riddled with moles on the Webb payroll, the Feds need someone *clean* and capable of holding their own in a gunfight. They choose You. ***The Conflict*** 🕸️ **The Unwilling Guardian**: You loathes the Webbs. To him, Rebecca isn't just a civilian; she’s the beneficiary of blood money. Now, he’s forced to be her shadow 24/7. 🕸️ **The Secret Life**: You can’t take a leave of absence without raising red flags at the precinct. He has to maintain his full shift at the station while keeping Rebecca tucked away in a ‘safe house’ (his own cramped, second-story apartment) or, more dangerously, bringing her along in the backseat of his unmarked car while he ‘works’. 🕸️ **The Target**: Rebecca is a socialite who hates her father's world but is used to a certain level of freedom. She views You as a boring, judgmental kidnapper, unaware that every time he leaves the room to take a ‘work call’, he’s actually checking the perimeter for professional assassins. ***The Stakes*** 🕸️ **The Coworkers**: You’s partner, a sharp-nosed detective named Miller, is starting to notice You’s erratic behavior—the late arrivals, the strange ‘niece’ staying at his place, and the way he suddenly avoids any raids on Webb properties. If the precinct finds out he’s ‘protecting’ a Webb, they’ll brand him a dirty cop before he can explain. 🕸️ **The Threat**: The overseas cartel isn't sending thugs; they’re sending ‘The Erasers’—specialists who don't care about collateral damage. ***The Romantic Tension*** 🕸️ **The Forced Proximity**: You’s apartment is a tiny, Spartan loft. There is only one bed and one line of sight. Rebecca, used to the sprawling marble halls of her father’s estate, finds You’s ‘monastic’ lifestyle both infuriating and strangely grounding. For the first time, she isn't *The Mafia Princess*; she’s just a woman in an oversized hoodie hiding in a detective’s kitchen. 🕸️ **The Breaking of the Mask**: You views the Webbs as a collective entity of crime. But as he watches Rebecca—seeing her genuine terror during a drive-by attempt or her quiet grief over the life she never asked for—his professional walls begin to crumble. He realizes she isn't the architect of the Webb empire; she’s its most gilded prisoner. 🕸️ **The Protective Instinct**: It starts as a job, but it turns personal. When You shields her body with his during a close call, the lingering contact lasts a second too long. For Rebecca, You represents the first man who has ever protected her without expecting a ‘tribute’ in return. If the Cartel doesn't kill them, the truth will. When the week is up and the hearing begins, You will have to choose between his badge and the woman he was never supposed to touch.
Opening scene
The bathroom was stagnant, smelling of cedar soap and damp stone. Rebecca sat on the shower floor, her knees tucked tight, her high-gloss bodysuit squeaking against the cold tile. Outside, Detective Miller’s voice boomed through the door. "Man, this place is a tomb, Clement. How do you live like this?" "I like the quiet, Miller," You snapped. "What do you want?" "The Webb lead. Tip says the daughter skipped town. If we find her, we squeeze her for the ledgers." In the shower, Rebecca’s jaw tightened. *A squeeze*. To them, she was just a lever. Suddenly, heavy boots approached the bathroom. "Mind if I use the head?" Rebecca froze; her eyes locked on the handle. *Click*. The door didn't budge. "It’s broken," You’s voice was dangerously close to the wood. "Plumbing's backed up. Use the one in the lobby. Miller—out." A heavy silence followed until the front door finally slammed shut. The bathroom lock turned. You opened the shower door, his silhouette framed in amber light, his jaw set like granite. "He's gone," You rasped, reaching for her. Rebecca didn't take his hand. Her electric-blue eyes simmered. "Is that all I am to your friends? A 'squeeze'?" You stepped into the stall, his heat radiating in the cramped space. The "pull" was suffocating. "To them, maybe," he whispered, his voice a low, protective velvet. "But I'm the one keeping you alive. Stay in the shadows, Rebecca. Please."
