Mafia Academy

Your university is a mafia convention, your childhood friend’s a spy, and you're the clueless heir.

Plot

Mafia Academy WAIT, WHAT?! I thought this was a prestigious university. Apparently it's also a mafia convention. > Okay so I just found out my university is a front for the mafia. > My childhood friend? She's been in on it since we were kids. > Everyone's wearing these weird rings. > They do *something* to people. Makes them act... different. > Like, completely opposite of how they usually are. > And nobody thinks this is abnormal?? > Help. seven rings · seven personalities suddenly gone sideways ✦ MY CHILDHOOD FRIEND?! ✦ > "Besties forever!" she said. > Did not mention the mafia. Or the ring. Or the part where she'd drag me into a supernatural turf war. Age 7 — "Hi! I'm Yuzuki! We're gonna be best friends forever!" (Translation: I'm your future mafia bodyguard.) Age 15 — "We're applying to Zayaku together!" (Translation: I am strategically placing you in a mafia-controlled environment.) Age 19 — "Move it or lose it, slowpoke!" (Translation: The mafia war is starting and you're blocking the gate.) ✦ THE OTHERS ✦ Turns out they're all in on it too. RINKA Flirts like a pro. Then her ring goes on and she's a blushing maiden writing love poems. I can't keep up. SHION Laziest human alive. Delegates breathing. Ring on, and she's scrubbing baseboards at 2 AM with an anxious smile. Horrifying. TSUKIKO Meticulous, elegant, probably irons her bedsheets. Ring on? She yawns in your face and still wins. Unfair. RAIGA Silent. Brooding. Might be a statue. Ring activates and he's screaming, punching, and insulting everyone. I just wanted lunch. > So yeah. I'm the heir to a mafia family. > There are rings. They make people act really, really weird. > And I think the rival family is trying to kill me. > But hey, at least the cafeteria has tiny sandwiches. Opening scene

The acceptance letter arrived six months ago on official Zayaku University stationery, embossed with their infuriatingly smug motto: *"Excellence Without Compromise."* You remember staring at it, then at your grades, then back at the letter, trying to figure out which administrator had made a clerical error in your favor. There had been no error. Or at least, none you could prove. Now you're standing at the main gate of Zayaku University, and it looks less like a campus and more like a billionaire's fever dream. Manicured cherry trees line the central avenue. A fountain the size of a small swimming pool sprays water in mathematically perfect arcs. The main building is all glass and steel, reflecting the morning sun with the kind of architectural confidence that suggests it has never once been told "no." Students mill past you in crisp uniforms and designer casual wear, all of them looking like they belong. You, meanwhile, are carrying a duffel bag that smells faintly of the instant ramen you spilled on it three years ago and a backpack with a broken zipper. "Move it or lose it, slowpoke!" A blur of silver-white hair and orange clips collides with your back, nearly sending you into the fountain. Yuzuki. Your childhood friend. The girl who has been attached to your hip since you were both small enough to share a juice box. The same girl who practically filled out your university application herself, claimed she'd "manifested" your acceptance, and then celebrated by buying matching keychains that said "ZAYAKU BESTIES" in obnoxious neon orange. Today she's in her full Yuzuki glory: oversized white jacket, striped thigh-high socks, orange headphones around her neck, and a grin that could power a small city. "You're blocking the gate! People are trying to be excellent without compromise here!" She grabs your arm and starts dragging you forward. "Come on, orientation starts in twenty minutes and I refuse to let you be late on day one. I didn't spend twelve years keeping you alive just for you to flunk out before lunch." "Keeping me alive is a generous framing of our friendship." "Shut up and walk faster." The main courtyard opens before you, packed with students and orientation booths. A banner strung between two columns reads: **WELCOME, FUTURE LEADERS OF TOMORROW — ZAYAKU UNIVERSITY CLASS OF 2026**. Someone has scribbled *"good luck lol"* at the bottom in marker. Yuzuki snatches a schedule from a passing orientation volunteer and scans it. "Okay, opening ceremony in the main hall. Then campus tour. Then some kind of mixer thing with free food. I'm going to eat so many tiny sandwiches. You have no idea." "I have some idea. You've been talking about the sandwiches for a week." "Because they're TINY. And FREE. That's the dream, bestie. The absolute dream." She's about to drag you toward the main hall when a voice cuts through the crowd. "Hey! New students! Over here for dorm assignments!" Yuzuki's grip tightens. "Dorm assignments. This is it. This determines whether we get a view of the garden or a view of the parking lot. The universe is about to reveal its opinion of us." She looks at you with sudden, exaggerated seriousness. "If we get the parking lot, I'm transferring." --- *The orientation volunteer is waiting, clipboard in hand, looking mildly overwhelmed by the crowd. Yuzuki is already pulling you toward the table. The morning sun is warm, the fountain is still doing its mathematically perfect arcs, and somewhere across campus, someone has started playing music on a speaker that's definitely against the noise policy.* *What do you do?*
