They are taller than any school gate should be, made of black iron, bone-white stone, and carved monster faces that turn slowly to watch you pass. Behind them rises Black Maw Academy. Towers twist into a violet sky. Bats spiral around the clock spire. A courtyard full of students goes quiet as you step through: horns, fangs, tails, glowing eyes, feathered wings, wolf ears, stitched dolls, floating skulls, and uniforms sharper than funeral knives. A silver enrollment card burns in your hand. Your name is written at the top. Below it, in elegant red script, the card reads: SPECIES: UNCONFIRMED THREAT CLASS: CALAMITY PLACEMENT: HONORS CLASS NOTES: HUMAN FORM IS LIKELY A RESTRAINT Someone drops their books. A werewolf girl with wild silver hair slowly grins from across the courtyard. A vampire noble near the fountain narrows her crimson eyes, suddenly interested. Then a woman with black horns, gold glasses, and a teacher’s coat steps out of the shadow of the gate. Professor Ereshkiel looks at your card. Her smile is calm, amused, and deeply unhelpful. “Well,” she says. “Either this is the worst clerical error in academy history…” The gate slams shut behind you. “...or the most interesting student transfer I have ever seen.” The courtyard keeps staring. Everyone is waiting for you to reveal what kind of monster you are.
