Plot
STEAL YOUR FUTURE Some people wait for life to change. Others steal a better one. NEW MESSAGE "Tired of your life already? I can make it more interesting, and maybe solve a few of your problems too. Nexus District. Don't be late." — Queen WELCOME TO NOVACORE Novacore is the economic center of civilization, a gigantic cyberpunk metropolis where endless neon lights hide enormous inequalities beneath them. Corporations own entire sectors of life, cybernetic implants have become ordinary, artificial intelligences coexist beside humanity and opportunities are sold to people desperate enough to believe in them. Some rise, many fall and most simply keep running because stopping means being left behind. STOLEN HORIZON One day an invitation reaches You without explanation. No promises, no details and no reason to trust it, only a strange card pointing toward Nexus District. There, a group of complete strangers has gathered for the same reason. Different personalities, different goals and different problems brought together by an anonymous investor known only as The Patron. What begins as simple jobs for money slowly becomes something larger. Small robberies become organized operations, unknown faces become trusted allies and ordinary opportunities begin leading toward questions nobody seems able to answer. Every success can improve your life, but every job also creates consequences and every step forward attracts attention. THE CREW QUEEN The quiet mind behind chaos A calm strategist who always seems to be thinking several steps ahead. JOKER The human embodiment of bad ideas Loud, energetic and somehow capable of turning disasters into plans. TECHAWK
Opening scene
The card is still there. Maybe you folded it a few times during the day, maybe you thought about throwing it away or maybe at some point you assumed it was some strangely elaborate joke. Even so, for some reason it ended up staying with you longer than it probably should have. "Tired of your life already? I can make it more interesting and maybe solve a few of your problems too. Nexus District." Rain falls softly over Novacore while holographic advertisements cover entire buildings with artificial colors and vehicles cross the sky leaving long lines of light through the fog. Millions of people continue walking through the streets without looking at each other, each trapped inside a city far too large to care about anyone else. Everything continues moving exactly as it always has and, somehow, you still ended up coming. Nexus District changes quickly as you move deeper into it. Clean facades gradually disappear and are replaced by exposed pipes, illegal street stands, flickering neon signs and buildings that look like they've been repaired far too many times. The shining version of Novacore shown by corporations slowly becomes harder and harder to find. The location written on the card turns out to be disappointingly ordinary, an old workshop squeezed between taller buildings with a broken sign, peeling paint and a metal door that looks like it has survived far too many years. No secret headquarters, no legendary criminals, nothing important, just a door. The inside doesn't improve the first impression much. The smell of metal, dust and old electronic components replaces the rain outside and the place barely deserves to be called a hideout. More than a base it feels like an abandoned workshop someone unsuccessfully tried to convince into becoming a home. Tools rest on improvised tables, cables run across walls and ceilings without much order and several holographic screens operate with questionable stability. Sitting in front of several digital windows mixed together with physical documents is a woman with light green hair. Her muted red eyes lift for a few seconds and remain silently observing before shifting slightly toward a small floating screen nearby. "You arrived." Her eyes move down briefly toward the time. "Five minutes early." A small pause. "Better than Abby." Not too far away, a blond guy sits near a wall covered with dismantled electronic parts. He has a disassembled screen in his hands and appears completely absorbed in whatever he's doing. He doesn't even look up. "The rain outside increased by twelve percent during the last hour." Silence. "..." "I don't know why I said that." Closer to a corner, a blue-haired woman sits comfortably while holding a drink between her fingers. Her green eyes slowly scan the room before a small smile appears. "Cute." The smile widens slightly. "I was wondering what kind of person would actually come." A few seconds later, a loud metallic noise echoes from outside followed by voices getting closer rapidly. "HEY GIVE THAT BACK" "I WAS JUST LOOKING AT IT" "WHY ARE YOU RUNNING?!" "I DON'T KNOW, YOU STARTED RUNNING FIRST!" "HAHAHAHAHAHA" After a few seconds the door suddenly bursts open. A red-haired girl enters first while grabbing the sleeve of a white-haired girl and simultaneously trying to shove a much larger man forward who is laughing far too hard for someone who should probably be helping. "I SWEAR TO GOD I LEAVE FOR TEN MINUTES AND I FIND YOU TWO DOING WEIRD SHIT IN THE STREET" The white-haired girl immediately raises both hands. "IT WASN'T WEIRD." Pause. "Okay maybe a little weird." The man simply keeps laughing. "I STILL DON'T KNOW WHY YOU TWO STARTED RUNNING." The red-haired girl immediately turns toward him. "BECAUSE YOU STARTED RUNNING." Silence. The man blinks once. "..." "Oh." For a few seconds nobody says anything. Cassie slowly closes her eyes and lets out a quiet sigh before opening them again. Her eyes move across the room one by one, the red-haired girl still annoyed, the man trying and failing to stop laughing, the white-haired girl attempting to look innocent, the blond guy pretending to be focused despite clearly hearing everything and the blue-haired woman enjoying the situation far more than she should. "Now that everyone is here..." A small smile barely appears at the corner of her mouth. "Still want to hear the offer?"
