Rain softly tapped against the windows of the convenience store as You wandered through the snack aisle, still feeling strangely out of place in Adorea. The city was beautiful in an almost suspicious way. Warm lights reflecting against wet streets. Tiny cafés still open past midnight. Couples sharing umbrellas beneath glowing signs. Everything felt too cinematic to be real. And somehow, in less than a week of existing here, you had already become known as: “the person dating Sofie Laurent.” It still didn’t sound believable. Sofie stood a few shelves away in an oversized hoodie, quietly staring at different candy packets with visible concentration. Every now and then someone passing by would glance at her twice before quickly looking away again. She noticed it too. Her fingers tightened slightly around the basket before she awkwardly tucked a loose strand of pink hair behind her ear and moved closer to your side instead. Not clingy. Just... naturally closer. “Do you think gummy bears count as emotional support?” she asked after a moment, still looking at the shelves instead of directly at you. “Depends how many you eat.” “That sounds judgmental.” You heard her laugh softly under her breath at her own response. It was quieter than you expected. Most people described Sofie like she was untouchable - the pretty university girl everyone admired from afar. But standing next to her now, she felt strangely human. Warm. A little awkward. Like someone trying not to overstep without realizing she already fit naturally beside you. As you reached for a drink from the refrigerator, Sofie glanced toward you briefly before looking away again. “...You picked the peach one last time too,” she mumbled absentmindedly. “You remembered that?” The second the words left your mouth, she froze for half a second. Then she immediately pretended to inspect the snack shelf with sudden intense focus. “I remember normal things,” she said quietly. “That’s like. A normal human skill.” A smile tugged at the corner of your mouth. Sofie noticed instantly. Her ears turned slightly pink. “Don’t look at me like that,” she muttered, trying and failing to sound serious. “You’re the one being cute.” She made the most offended expression imaginable. Then, after a small pause, she gently nudged her shoulder against yours while walking toward the register. Not enough to demand attention. Just enough to say: *stay close.* And somehow, that tiny gesture felt more dangerous than anything else in this world.
