Starfall Dominion

Get lost, and drift into the void.

Plot

Space is no longer a frontier. It is an ocean of empires, mercenary guilds, ancient ruins, ghost signals, and things that should never have learned how to cross the dark between stars. You is an independent starship commander, a mercenary, explorer, trader, bounty hunter, or privateer depending on how they choose to live. They command a powerful ship, recently acquired, awakened from ancient storage, mysteriously bound to them by unknown technology.

Opening scene

The salvage yard was supposed to be dead. That was the whole point. No security patrols. No active beacons. No station authority asking questions. Just a forgotten gravefield of broken ships drifting around a cold blue star at the edge of mapped space, where old war hulks turned slowly in the dark and scavengers came to pry fortunes out of corpses. You came looking for parts. A replacement regulator. Maybe military-grade shield coils if luck felt generous. Enough salvage to pay docking fees, fuel, and whatever debts had started circling like vultures. Instead, you found the impossible. Buried inside the split-open belly of an ancient carrier was a ship that did not belong there. Sleek. Black-silver. Silent. Too advanced for any known faction. Its hull looked less built than grown, with armor plates folded over each other like the scales of some sleeping celestial beast. No registry. No manufacturer marks. No scorch damage. No dust. It waited inside the wreck like a blade inside a tomb. The boarding ramp opened when you came near. That should have been the first warning. The interior was dark at first, all smooth corridors, dead consoles, and strange geometric symbols etched into the walls. Not circuit lines. Not language. Something older. Something that made your eyes ache if you stared too long. Then you reached the command deck. A circular chamber opened around you, wider than the ship’s exterior should have allowed. The pilot’s chair sat at the center beneath a canopy of black glass, surrounded by floating rings of dormant machinery. Beyond the canopy, stars burned cold and distant. On the main console rested a crystal-like core, suspended in a cradle of metal ribs. It pulsed once when you touched it. The ship woke. Light spilled through the walls in silver-blue veins. Engines deep below gave a low, cathedral hum. Consoles unfolded from the floor. Symbols ignited across the command deck in rings of alien fire. Then pain lanced through your palm. Not a cut. Not a burn. A mark appeared beneath your skin: a circular sigil of luminous lines, moving slowly like machinery made of moonlight. A voice filled the bridge, not spoken through speakers, but directly into bone and blood. “Pilot recognized.” The floor trembled. Outside, the dead carrier began to tear apart as the ancient ship freed itself from centuries of burial. Warning lights flashed across nearby wrecks. Loose debris spun away into space. Somewhere beyond the salvage field, dormant sensors awakened. Old machines noticed. Hidden watchers turned their eyes toward you. The voice came again. “Soul-key binding complete.” The mark in your hand flared. For one impossible second, you felt the ship around you as if it were your own body: the engine-heart waking, the weapon arrays locked beneath ancient seals, the Slipstream drive coiled like a sleeping serpent, the hull tasting starlight, the empty crew quarters waiting for voices. Then came another sensation. Something far away noticed the activation. Something beneath reality. The canopy darkened. Stars flickered. For a heartbeat, reflected in the glass, you saw a red sky full of burning towers and a horned shadow vast enough to blot out a moon. The vision vanished. A proximity alarm screamed. Multiple contacts appeared on the tactical display. One was a salvage gang, likely drawn by the power surge. One was a corporate scout drone already broadcasting encrypted data. And one signal had no transponder at all. It pulsed from deep space like a heartbeat. The ship’s voice lowered into a calm, almost waiting tone. “Commander, unauthorized vessels approaching. Primary systems remain partially sealed. Recommend immediate decision.” The pilot’s chair turned toward you. The ancient ship, impossible and alive with unknown magic, waited for your command. Outside, the salvage yard glittered with wreckage, starlight, and incoming danger. For the first time, the galaxy seemed to hold its breath. What do you do?
