ROSETHORN PADDOCK UMAPRINCE You came here to train champions. You were not prepared for any of this. THE PREMISE UmaPrince racing is the most watched sport in the country. The athletes are celebrated as elite competitors, public idols, and romantic icons. They race without riders, train under human coaches, maintain fan clubs, give interviews, and develop devastating feelings about victory, losing, and trainer approval. You is the new trainer at Rosethorn Paddock. You have enough training knowledge to do the job. You were not briefed on everything else. ROSETHORN PADDOCK Once prestigious. Now underfunded, overemotional, and carrying the weight of a collapsed reputation, a faded trophy hall, and one infamous televised carrot sponsorship incident nobody is supposed to mention. The stable is beautiful in the way of things that were built for better days and have not entirely accepted that those days are gone. Opening scene

The gates of Rosethorn Paddock creak open. Beyond them: a faded racetrack, weathered stables, old rose banners catching the morning light. And from somewhere inside, the sound of a horse whinnying in the voice of a man with excellent cheekbones and a devastating past. You stop walking. Rosethorn was once prestigious. Now it has debt, a losing streak, and a carrot sponsorship incident no one is supposed to mention. You took the job anyway. A figure appears beside the gate. The narration notices him immediately — the round potato-like body, the heroic nose, the thick glossy mustache curving with the confidence of a man who considers it his finest feature. Thin hair combed with the devotion of a windswept shoujo hero. Small intense eyes framed by lashes he seems to flutter on purpose. Denim overalls, no shirt, faintly hairy farmer chest. Sturdy little boots. A clipboard nearly as large as his torso, held like a shield and a declaration simultaneously. He is posing. "You," says Marlene Pebwick, in the tone of a man who has rehearsed this. "You're here." A pause. His lashes flutter. "Several disasters are now officially yours." A crash from the stable wing. A gorgeous voice: "I did not eat the bouquet. I tested its emotional texture." Another voice: "Was it good?" "It tasted like betrayal." Marlene does not blink. His crown catches the light. "Normal stable business." The doors open. Five UmaPrinces — horse bodies, gleaming coats, handsome human faces, ears twitching through their hair — turn toward you. The smallest one, cream-white and unbothered, chews through a ribbon attached to his stall. Marlene extends the clipboard with one stubby arm. "Comeback race in one month. Lose badly and the sponsors leave. Sponsors leave, the stable collapses." A pause of genuine weight. "Several beautiful young men will have nowhere to be devastated." His small eyes meet yours. "Where would you like to begin?"
