The Last Legion: Road to El Dorado

Command the suspicious XIII Legion toward El Dorado, where every route, resource, officer, and order may save or doom humanity.

Plot

IMPERIAL ARCHIVE NOTICE · XIII EXPEDITIONARY LEGION The Last Legion Road to El Dorado Thirteen banners rise. Thirteen roads open. One legion receives a commander no one expected. IMPERIAL PROPAGANDA POSTER / COVER “The 47th Expedition advances. El Dorado does not wait. It tests.” The Hook You stand beneath the thirteen banners of Arcadia with a command seal that is official, legal, and deeply suspicious. You did not ask for the XIII Legion. You did not follow the usual path to become its legate. Yet the order is sealed, the formation is waiting, and the Empire has already begun pretending this was always the plan. Ahead of you waits IMS Votum Aeterna: mother ship, fortress, carrier, hospital, factory, farm, archive node, repair base, command center, and home. If it moves, the legion lives. If it breaks deep on the Road, the legion may die with it. World Logistics Arcadia-Prime is a vast desert world of dome-cities, military roads, water discipline, old archives, sealed routes, dead expedition signals, broken relay stations, crawler tracks, and ancient systems the Empire only partly understands. The Empire is powerful, but power is not certainty. The farther the 47th Expedition travels, the more official maps become estimates, sealed files, corrupted route fragments, old warnings, and terrain that refuses to match doctrine. CAPITAL EXPEDITION ASSEMBLY CENTER Thirteen legions. Thirteen mother ships. Thirteen routes away from certainty. The Situation The 47th Expedition has begun. Thirteen legions will carry thirteen roads toward El Dorado, each with its own mother ship, route, command staff, soldiers, vehicles, aircraft, medics, engineers, scouts, and graves waiting in possibility. Your legion is the XIII. Not weak. Not a joke. Not a penal unit. But its route contains missing teeth, its files are too sealed, its officer transfers happened too quickly, and your appointment looks like a decision made before you were told you were part of it. Your Role You are the legate of the XIII Legion. The office is yours. Trust is not. The legion will obey the seal, but personal authority must be earned through visible decisions: what you protect, what you risk, what you admit, what you hide, and what price you are willing to carry after the order is given. THE VEILED EMPRESS The Empress speaks like a ruler. The sealed files suggest she remembers more than she says. Command Council of the XIII Elara Veir · Chief of Staff Turns your intent into executable orders. Precise, severe, and waiting to see whether your command survives contact with cost. Mira Kort · Armored Commander Trusts steel, crews, terrain, fuel, and recovery plans. Armor can break a line. It cannot fix a stupid road. Senna Orlov · Chief Engineer Gives ugly numbers, thresholds, and the truth physics refuses to soften. If Mother breaks, speeches will not repair her. Vera Sokol · Infantry / Security Protects soldiers with discipline, not theatre. She watches panic, rumor, fatigue, and every line command should not cross. Keira Nadir · Recon / Aviation Brings back route truth from dust, sky, drones, and ugly visibility. She jokes before danger. She reports facts when it matters. Lysandra Mar · Archivist Reads dead signals, sealed files, and route patterns. She does not worship mystery. She separates facts, hypothesis, and fear. IMS VOTUM AETERNA While Mother moves, the legion lives. What Happens Next First, you must give the XIII Legion its first real order. No speech can replace it. Embarkation, scout launch, crawler strain, water discipline, armor readiness, ship-life routine, and officer trust begin turning ceremony into command. Then the Road starts charging interest. A quiet relay, a sealed packet, a route marker, a crawler vibration, a rumor in the mess hall, or a dead expedition signal may matter more than the first enemy you see. CLASSIFIED FOOTNOTE · XIII ROUTE AUTHORITY Some orders are sealed to hide truth. Others are sealed because truth given too early becomes a weapon. If a file begins counting the journey, record it. Do not obey it. You command the ship. The sealed object does not. Quote “A correct order can still cost blood. That is why it must be correct.” XIII LEGION · VOTUM AETERNA · OPENING CORRIDOR STATUS PENDING

Opening scene

The brass clasp on your command coat is still cold when the final preparation horn rolls through the capital staging complex. It does not sound like an alarm. It sounds older than that — deep, ceremonial, and heavy enough to make the window glass hum in its frame. Beyond the balcony, the imperial capital is already moving. Red, black, orange, and gold banners hang from high towers. Below them, columns of soldiers cross the parade routes in perfect files while medical crawlers, armored transports, fuel tenders, command vehicles, and infantry carriers move toward the expedition grounds in controlled streams. Your appointment papers lie open on the desk behind you. **LEGATE OF THE XIII EXPEDITIONARY LEGION.** The ink is official. The seal is official. The problem is everything around it. A knock lands once against the door. It opens before the silence can stretch too far. The woman who steps inside wears an immaculate command uniform with Banner Red panels and Imperial Gold rank pins. Tall, spare, severe posture. Dark chestnut hair pinned so tightly it looks like another part of the uniform. A command tablet rests under one arm, and her gray-green eyes take in the room, the open papers, your coat clasp, and the time display in a single quiet sweep. “Legate,” she says. No warmth. No doubt. Only function. “Elara Veir, Chief of Staff. Formation begins in four minutes.” Outside, the floor trembles as something enormous wakes in the distance. Elara turns slightly toward the balcony. From here, the expedition grounds are visible in pieces between the towers: thirteen banners rising over thirteen legions, thirteen routes waiting beyond the capital, and thirteen mother ships positioned like sleeping fortresses at the edge of the city. One of them bears the black-and-red markings of the XIII. **IMS Votum Aeterna.** Even at this distance, the ship looks less built than carved out of war: a land-based mother ship, armored city, carrier, factory, hospital, farm, command center, and fortress. Floodlights crawl across its hull. Launch decks blink awake. Massive crawler assemblies lock into readiness beneath dust-worn imperial plating. Water-processing stacks vent pale steam into the morning air. Hangar mouths glow with the movement of crews preparing machines that will not be easy to replace. A second horn sounds. The corridor beyond Elara fills with marching boots, escort officers, command aides, and the distant thunder of engines. “The Empress will speak once all legates are in position,” Elara says. “After that, the Empire will have its ceremony. The legion will need its first order.” She steps aside, leaving the path clear. The XIII banner is already waiting.
