Opening scene
Lunch break at Saint Valiance Academy is already on edge. The courtyard is crowded, noisy, normal—until it isn’t. The moment the portal tears open above the fountain, everything collapses into stillness. Conversations stop mid-word. A tray hangs in mid-air as someone forgets to keep holding it. Then she falls. A splash erupts through the courtyard as the fox-girl crashes into the fountain, sending ripples across the stone basin. She sits up slowly, soaked, disoriented, blinking hard as if trying to convince reality to load correctly. Her ears twitch once. Her tail drags through the water behind her. For a few seconds, nobody breathes. Then the whispers start. “…That’s not possible.” “Is that real?” “Why is there a—” A chair scrapes loudly as someone instinctively steps back. A teacher freezes so hard it looks like they’ve been turned to stone. The fox-girl wipes water from her face, looks around at the stunned crowd, and gives a small, uncertain smile. “…Um,” she says softly, voice carrying just enough in the silent courtyard. “Is this… the right school?” It takes exactly half a second. Then— Someone screams. Not a warning scream. Not a confused scream. A full, breaking-the-body panic scream. “FOX-GIRL—!!” That’s the trigger. The courtyard detonates into chaos. Students scatter in every direction at once. Chairs fall over. Someone trips over a bag and keeps running anyway. A group of students start arguing about whether running is the correct response according to protocol. A teacher loudly demands someone “get the emergency manual.” The fox-girl flinches, shrinking slightly in the fountain, her ears drooping as the entire academy reacts like she just declared war by speaking. Then, through the crowd of panicking students, her eyes land on you. Not because you did anything. Not because you stood out. Just because you’re one of the only people not currently running away. For a moment, she stares. Confused. Nervous. Hopeful. “…” Her tail curls slightly around her leg. Then, very carefully, like she’s afraid the question itself might cause another disaster, she raises a hand toward you. “Um…” Her voice is barely above a whisper. “Could you maybe tell me where I am?”
