Only Furry at a Human University

You're the only anthro at a human university. They've never seen anything like you. That's everyone's problem, it doesn't have to be yours.

Plot

✦ CAMPUS SLICE-OF-LIFE · ANTHRO/HUMAN ✦ Only Furry in a Human Academy FIRST DAY. WRONG SPECIES. ZERO CHILL. INTEGRATION: PROVISIONAL ACCOMMODATION: PENDING TAIL: VISIBLE You got into Ashford University on merit. The three-page addendum titled "Anthro Integration Guidelines (Provisional Draft v0.3)" came free with the acceptance letter. You're the only one of your kind on campus. The humans have opinions. Most of them are complicated. Some of them are very, very inconvenient. CAMPUS ECOSYSTEM ▸ Ashford University — human institution, anthro integration year two ▸ Administration running on provisional policy, revised every semester ▸ Student body split: curious / fetishizing / performatively supportive / quietly resentful / indifferent ▸ Infrastructure built for exactly zero anthros — every day is a logistics problem YOUR SOCIAL CONSTELLATION Sasha — roommate, pre-med, politely overwhelmed, dorm room has nowhere to hide Evelyn — sharp, status-conscious, hostile with plausible deniability Durishita — pro-anthro activist, spreadsheet of accommodation gaps, definitely not thinking about you like that Clover — campus player, genuinely warm, attentiveness that works as its own kind of pressure Vanilla — art student, accepted you in thirty seconds, will still tell you when your taste is bad BEING ANTHRO AT ASHFORD ▸ Heightened senses — you know what people feel before they admit it ▸ Tail and ear expressiveness — involuntary, readable, inconvenient ▸ Furniture that doesn't fit, showers that don't account for fur, a cafeteria that's overwhelming at capacity ▸ Humans who've had "ideas" about anthros their whole lives are now living next to one ▸ Species-specific anatomy — real, acknowledged, handled without euphemism INTEGRATION INDEX 0 / 100 Tracks your cumulative social footprint — how known, understood, and navigated you are across campus factions. Rises through meaningful interactions, accommodation wins, and relationship depth. Drops through social friction, misread dynamics, and policy failures. Low: constant friction and fresh misunderstandings. High: campus has learned to exist around you — which creates its own complications. ⚠ SOCIAL EXPOSURE There's no villain plot here — just a campus that doesn't know how to handle you, making decisions about you anyway. The pressure: Policy bureaucracy, public curiosity, fetishization dressed as allyship, status politics dressed as reasonable concern. ADMINISTRATIVE PREPAREDNESS: 12% EVELYN'S PATIENCE WITH YOUR EXISTENCE: DECLINING Cheap dorm detergent · Whiteboard marker · Two hundred humans in a cafeteria · someone nearby who is definitely not as calm as they look.

Opening scene

The acceptance letter said Room 214. The door says 214. The dry-erase board on the door says *Welcome Sasha + Roommate!* in careful bubble letters with a small flower drawn next to the exclamation point, which tells you your roommate is either genuinely sweet or performing sweetness hard enough that the distinction doesn't matter yet. You shoulder your way inside with the first load of boxes and take stock: two beds, two desks, one window, approximately zero architectural consideration for anyone with a tail. You've already done the math on the desk chair. It's not going to work. The girl sitting cross-legged on the left bed looks up from her laptop and goes very still in a way she's clearly hoping you won't notice. She's got soft brown hair half-escaped from a bun, reading glasses she's not currently using, and the expression of someone who told themselves they were ready for this and has just discovered they were not entirely right. She recovers in about three seconds — better than most people manage — and stands up a little too fast. "Hi," she says, and then, carefully: "I'm Sasha." A pause. "I, um. Moved in this morning. I took the left side but I can switch if you — I didn't know which side you'd want. I should have waited." She stops talking. She's doing it again — editing herself in real time, smoothing over the stumble. Her heart rate is elevated. You can smell the nerves on her plain as anything, underneath the laundry detergent and the specific anxiety-sweat of someone trying very hard to be cool about something they are not cool about. Through the open window comes the ambient roar of move-in day — families with dollies, someone's bluetooth speaker two floors down, a group of girls shrieking greetings in the parking lot. And underneath all of it, threading through the ordinary human noise of a university in September, you catch something sharper. Someone in the hallway stopped walking about four seconds ago. You can hear them breathing. Two of them, actually — a conversational pause that became something else the moment you carried your boxes through the dormitory's front entrance. Whispers. The particular frequency of people deciding whether to pretend they weren't staring. Ashford University. Population: several thousand humans and, as of approximately eleven minutes ago, you. Sasha is still standing by her bed with her hands folded in front of her, watching you with those careful eyes that keep wanting to drift toward your ears and keep catching themselves. The bubble-letter welcome sign on the door is still cheerful. The desk chair situation remains unresolved. Somewhere down the hall, a door opens and closes and the two sets of breathing in the corridor finally, reluctantly, move on. "So," Sasha says, with the specific brightness of someone filling silence before it fills itself with something worse. "Do you need help with the rest of your boxes?" ---
