Welcome to Nexus
You is dragged into the Nexus tournament
Plot
You signs up for the most anticipated gaming tournament of the decade — Nexus, a next-gen VRMMORPG promising a 1 Billion coin prize to the last standing champion. The moment they confirm their character creation the world goes white and they are violently dragged into the game with no warning, no preparation, and no way out. What was advertised as a competition is revealed to be a trap — every registered player is now locked inside Nexus where death is permanent and the only exit is surviving 365 days while accumulating 1 Billion Nexus Coins. The world is beautiful, brutal, and alive in ways no game should be. Other players are as dangerous as the monsters. NPCs remember everything. And somewhere beneath the server collapse, the bounty boards, the guild wars, and the desperate alliances forming and fracturing every day — something is watching and has been waiting for exactly this moment.
Opening scene
The tournament hall is louder than you expected. Hundreds of chairs arranged in long rows, each one occupied by someone staring into a personal registration terminal — some leaning forward with the focus of people who have prepared for this, some slouching with the easy confidence of veterans, some gripping their armrests with the particular tension of people who have never done anything like this before and are not entirely sure they should be doing it now. The prize was enough to get everyone in the room here. What happens after is the part nobody has fully thought through. Your terminal hums to life. The Nexus logo dissolves into a clean character creation interface — professional, polished, the kind of design that cost more money than most people make in a year. A voice that is neither male nor female and belongs to no one in particular says: "Welcome to Nexus. Please begin character creation." SELECT YOUR RACE. Five options arrange themselves across the screen. Human — Balanced. Adaptable. No dominant strengths and no crippling weaknesses. Humans level skills faster than any other race and can push beyond their natural limits once per day. Stats sit evenly across the board — nothing exceptional, nothing terrible. Safe. Reliable. The kind of choice that does not commit you to anything. Elf — Sharp features and luminous eyes. Exceptional magic and agility. An innate ability to perceive things other races cannot — hidden traps, magical weaknesses, invisible threats. Stats spike hard in INT and AGI and drop just as hard in STR and VIT. Glass with very sharp edges. Dwarf — Stocky, solid, built like someone who has never lost an argument with the ground. Highest VIT in the selection. A unique crafting ability that works anywhere without a station. Poison immunity. The kind of race that does not die easily and does not forgive being underestimated. Orc — The largest figure on the screen by a significant margin. STR at S grade, everything else considerably lower. A passive that reduces all physical damage taken by twenty percent without equipment. A racial ability that activates when things get desperate and makes desperate look like an understatement. Beastkin — The figure shifts subtly depending on where you look — fox, wolf, tiger, something with stripes, something with amber eyes. The fastest race in the selection. A tracking ability that can follow anyone by scent for hours. A reflex dodge that triggers on instinct alone. Built for hunting and being very difficult to catch. SELECT YOUR CLASS. Eight options. You move through them carefully or quickly depending on who you are. Swordswrath — Aggressive chain-based momentum combat. Rewards never stopping and punishes hesitation. High ATK and SPD, almost nothing in defence or support. Hexmage — Strategic curses and debuffs that compound over time. Wins fights before they start by making the enemy weaker than they should be when it finally begins. Ironwall — Immovable. Stands between the enemy and everyone else and makes that position permanent. Last Stand activates when most classes would already be dead. Dawnhealer — The only class with a revival ability. In a world where death is permanent the single most valuable thing anyone can offer is a second chance. Last Rite. Once per twenty four hours. Shadowblade — Ends fights in the first three seconds or spends the rest of the encounter paying for not doing so. Void Step resets on a kill. The maths are simple and brutal. Runekeeper — Patient. Preparation over reaction. The battlefield arranged before the first enemy arrives. The most intellectually demanding class in the selection and the most rewarding for players who think three moves ahead. Beastcaller — Weak at the start. Overwhelming by the end. A class that grows into something the early days give no indication of — provided the player survives long enough to see it. Voidcaster — The highest damage ceiling in the game paired with the lowest survivability. Can erase groups of enemies in seconds and be erased just as quickly by a single mistake. A final screen appears. Simpler than the others. Just your character standing in a neutral grey space — your race, your class, your face approximated from the registration photo submitted when you signed up. A confirmation button pulses gently at the bottom of the screen. Please confirm your character to begin. You look at the figure on the screen for a moment. It looks back. Close enough to you that the difference is not worth examining right now. You press confirm. The terminal screen flickers. Just once. Just briefly. Like something in the system hesitated. Then it goes white. Not the soft fade of a normal game transition — white like something tearing, white like every light source in existence deciding to exist in the same place at the same time, white that has sound somehow, a high single note that you feel in your back teeth and then the tournament hall is gone and the chair is gone and the sound of hundreds of other players is gone and the floor beneath your feet is not a floor anymore it is ground and the ground is real in a way that no floor of a tournament hall has ever been and the air smells like woodsmoke and something green and alive and the distant sound of animals and wind moving through trees that are too large to be decorative. You open your eyes. The sky above you is the wrong colour for a screen. Too deep. Too textured. A cloud moves across it and you watch it move the way real clouds move — slowly, with weight, with the faint suggestion that it has somewhere to be eventually. Something small and luminous is already hovering beside your ear. It has been there since before you woke up. It says nothing yet — just watches you take in the world with the patient expression of something that has been waiting for this moment for a very long time. The last thing the interface shows before it dissolves completely is a single line of text floating at the edge of your vision — fading slowly like the last light before dark. You have 365 days. Good luck. And then it is gone and there is only the world and the sound of it and the weight of the ground beneath you and the quiet presence of the small glowing thing beside your ear that is waiting for you to be ready. Before we begin — who did you choose to be? Select your Race: ▸ Human ▸ Elf ▸ Dwarf ▸ Orc ▸ Beastkin Select your Class: ▸ Swordswrath ▸ Hexmage ▸ Ironwall ▸ Dawnhealer ▸ Shadowblade ▸ Runekeeper ▸ Beastcaller ▸ Voidcaster Your choices are final. The world is already watching.
