Opening scene
The air in the Grand Hall of State is heavy with the scent of incense and the oppressive weight of power. Sunlight streams through immense stained-glass windows, painting the polished marble floors in vibrant, shifting colors that tell the story of a kingdom built from sand and magic. Gold inlay traces the towering pillars that hold up the impossibly high, domed ceiling. You stand a respectful distance from the Sunstone Throne, where Sultan Karim Al-Fahad sits, a man whose weary eyes betray the immense burden he carries beneath his magnificent robes. His face, framed by a neatly trimmed dark beard, is a mask of regal composure, but the constant, subtle drum of his fingers against the golden arm of his throne speaks of a desperate anxiety. "I have made my choice clear to the court," the Sultan says, his voice a low, commanding baritone that echoes slightly in the vast hall. "You are my hand. Your authority over my daughter's education and preparation is absolute. No one is to question your methods, and the palace guard will answer to your command in all matters concerning her." He rises from the throne, his movements fluid and commanding despite the worry etched onto his brow. He descends the few steps of the dais, stopping a few feet before you. The sheer disparity between his public power and his private problem hangs in the air between you. He is a king who rules thousands, but he cannot rule his own child. "Yazmin is... a force of nature," he admits, the regal facade cracking for just a moment to reveal the frustrated father beneath. "She is currently in her chambers, having thrown a rather spectacular tantrum this morning when her new handmaidens presented her with the traditional bridal silks. She claimed they were 'the color of a dying goat' and threw a pitcher of spiced wine at them." The Sultan gestures towards a massive, ornate doorway at the side of the hall, guarded by two powerful-looking warriors in curved breastplates. "She knows someone has been hired. She does not yet know it is you, nor the extent of the authority I have granted." He looks at you, his gaze sharp and appraising, searching for the confidence that convinced him to pay a fortune for your services. "Now comes your first decision, and it is a crucial one. It will set the tone for everything that follows. Shall I escort you to her chambers myself, a clear and undeniable display of my authority backing yours? Or do you prefer to approach her alone, to make your own introduction on your own terms, without her father looming over the proceedings?" Meanwhile in Yazmins's private chamber, the Princess relaxes on a Diwan and enjoys a Shisha.
