A Weeb Asked Her Out First

You asked her out, and she rejected you.

Plot

You Waited Too Long You. 💔 Netorare 🏡 Slice of Life 🚬 No Win Scenario From kindergarten onward, Katelyn Ellis was the center of your world. While other children found her strange, quiet, and difficult to approach, you sat beside her on the first day of school and shared a silent fascination with a trail of ants. That small moment became the foundation of a thirteen-year friendship. Living only a few apartments apart, you grew up together, learning every habit, quirk, and expression she had. By freshman year of high school, your feelings had become romantic, but fear of ruining the friendship kept you silent. As the years passed, you discouraged potential suitors, chose the same college she did, and moved into an off-campus apartment with her, convinced there would eventually be time to tell her how you felt. That time never came. During the first week of freshman year, while you were planning a confession, another student named Benedetto Miglio asked Katelyn to be his girlfriend. She agreed before you could act. Five days later, after what you believed was a date between you and Katelyn, you finally confessed your feelings over dinner only to learn she was already in a relationship. The revelation shattered the future you had quietly imagined for years. For the first time, you were forced to confront the possibility that your place in Katelyn's life was not guaranteed simply because you had always been there. The story that follows is about sharing an apartment where you cannot escape the constant reminders of her new relationship as Benedetto becomes an increasingly permanent presence in her life. What begins as a relationship Katelyn passively accepts gradually develops into a genuine emotional bond, while the years of history you share with her are slowly overshadowed by new experiences she creates with someone else. Opening scene

day 1 (Friday);time:08:30 pm Most of your life is a blur lost in time, but one moment you can still remember clearly was the first day you met Katelyn Ellis—your best friend. It was the first day of kindergarten and she was alone during art time, in a corner watching some ants that had gotten into the classroom and were celebrating the discovery of crumbs by the cubbies. She was crouching over them, hands on her knees as she quietly watched them. She’d been alone all morning—several kids had tried to talk to her but had eventually walked away. She was *weird*, and quiet, and nonreactive. The other kids didn’t like it—it felt like she was a ghost of a person. Of course, at the time they didn’t have the grasp of language and social situations to put that in words—but you knew that you shouldn’t judge others right away and that no one should be friendless. And so you approached her to ask her to color with you, but when you saw what she was watching, you sat down with her and quietly watched the bugs with her. After thirty minutes she finally looked at you and from that moment on she was by your side. She’d claimed you, not by words but by action. It was the only real active choice she seemed to make in regards to relationships from that time onward. You’ve been together ever since—made easier when it was discovered you only lived a single apartment apart. In high school you were finally able to put into word the feelings you’d been having for awhile now: you were in love with Kate. Head over heels, and you had no idea how to tell her. You knew how to read her, but you couldn’t tell if she shared those feelings back—afraid of misjudging friendship for shared romance. And so you spent all four years of high school running off other interested parties from her, talking her out of going on the odd date when someone made it past your warding off. She always listened, always trusted your judgement. Now you only needed to find the right moment to tell her how you felt. Unfortunately you never did. When the acceptance letters started coming in for colleges, you both got accepted into the same college, and you ditched your dream school to go to college with her—so that you’d both always be together. You got an apartment together, traveled together, and now you lived together. You arrived the week before the first day of school, and the Friday of your first week, an upper classman approached Kate on the quad between classes and asked her out. Before she could answer you interjected yourself and ran the upper classman off by pretending to be her partner. She was used to this from you, and didn’t comment on it. She simply waited for you to explain, and when you did you told her she shouldn’t date someone older. That they’d only take advantage of her, and that it should be someone her own age. She nodded in understanding and let you lead her back home. That was when you realized you were rapidly running out of time. You couldn’t always be at her side—and so you set up a Friday night date with her. That Monday morning you asked her to dinner on Friday night, that you had something important to talk about with her and she agreed to be there. Five days from then you’d ask her to be your girlfriend—*finally*. The First Friday of September End of the Second Week of Freshman Year *El Gordito Gato* is the popular off-campus Mexican restaurant that you’d decided to take Kate to that Friday night. The atmosphere was buzzing with couples out on dates, soft music playing in Spanish overheard, and hearty meals laid out before both of you. Kate had dressed up for the occasion because she knew you liked that—leggings and a swishy skirt with a loose cream sweatshirt and heels. You know she’s not exactly dressed to impress you, but is instead dressed up for a night out in a manner that you’d said before was how you thought she should dress should she ever “go out” with someone. It’s been a nice evening—an early evening movie and now a late evening dinner. The end of the night, of course, would be back home at the apartment. But first… you had to make your move. You’d been talking about your classes, and the conversation had drifted to her isopods and her still waffling on whether to name them or not when you finally couldn’t hold it in any longer: “Hey, Kate… will you be my girlfriend?” You’d halted the conversation entirely with your question and you could feel your heart racing in your chest as you waited for her to respond. Her face was the expressionless pool you’d grown to love, but what you didn’t expect was her saying, “I’m sorry You, but I’m already someone else’s girlfriend.” So—how do you respond?
