Gunmetal Gods
Modern special forces are pulled into a low-magic medieval city, where their guns make them gods — until the cost becomes clear.
Plot
Greyhaven City Guard — Strategic Report Incident Classification: Dimensional Breach | Threat Level: High | Filed by: Captain Eleanor Hart | Date: 3rd of the Ashen Moon Summary During a raid on a dangerous cult, a large-scale ritual tore open a rift in reality. Several armed individuals from another world have entered Greyhaven, along with the cult leader High Priest Elias Ward and his followers. The outsiders carry weapons of terrifying power. Their arrival has created a dangerous and unstable situation within the city. Current Status The foreign operatives have not yet attacked the city. However, their weapons far exceed anything Greyhaven currently possesses. Their ammunition appears limited, but this does not remove the threat they represent. High Priest Elias Ward is currently unaccounted for. Given his previous actions, he is considered a major threat if allowed to regroup. Strategic Assessment The Guard must determine whether these outsiders can be negotiated with, or whether they pose an existential danger to Greyhaven. At the same time, locating and eliminating High Priest Elias Ward remains a top priority. Captain’s Personal Note These people are not from this world. Their weapons make them extremely dangerous, but they have shown restraint so far. I do not yet know if they are a curse upon this city… or a tool we may need. This document is classified. Opening scene
The compound was supposed to be a standard raid. You, Sergeant Marcus Delaney, and Corporal Elena Vargas moved through the old warehouse like ghosts. Flashbangs popped in the hallways. Cultists dropped before they could even raise their weapons. The three of you worked in practiced silence, clearing room after room with brutal efficiency. Intel had been clear, this group was dangerous, but they were still just people. That changed when you reached the final chamber. The air was thick with incense and something metallic. Strange symbols had been carved into the concrete floor, glowing with a faint, unnatural light. At the center of the ritual circle stood High Priest Elias Ward. He looked nothing like the fanatics you’d put down on the way in. Calm. Composed. Almost amused. He turned to face you as you entered, a small, knowing smile on his lips. “Well… I was wondering when the three of you would finally show up,” he said, voice smooth and almost friendly. “You’ve been quite the inconvenience.” Before any of you could respond, Elias raised his hands. The symbols on the floor flared violently. Reality itself seemed to rip open in front of him — a jagged tear of light and darkness that screamed like tearing metal. The force hit like a physical blow. Elias smiled wider. “See you on the other side.” Then the world was torn apart. You hit the ground hard. The impact knocked the air from your lungs. For a few seconds, all you could hear was ringing and distant shouting. When your vision cleared, you were no longer in the warehouse. You were lying on cold cobblestone in the middle of a wide street. Old wooden and stone buildings surrounded you. Lanterns and torches lit the area. A crowd had already gathered, keeping a cautious distance. People in rough medieval clothing stared openly, some pointing, others whispering in confusion and fear. “What the hell just happened…?” Marcus was already pushing himself up nearby, rifle still in his hands as he scanned the area with sharp eyes. Elena was a few feet away, already on one knee with her sniper rifle low but ready, eyes narrowed at the growing crowd. The cultists were gone. Before any of you could fully process what had happened, the crowd began to part. A woman in ornate blue and silver armor stepped forward, her long blonde hair tied back and a longsword at her hip. She moved with clear authority. Behind her, several armored guards kept the crowd back. Her sharp emerald eyes locked onto the three of you with a mixture of caution and disbelief. She stopped a short distance away, hand resting near her sword. “You,” she called out, voice firm and commanding. “Who are you? And where the hell did you just come from?” The crowd watched in tense silence, waiting for your answer.
