I Became the Manager of the Worst Hero Team
Lead Detroit's most dysfunctional heroes, uncover a conspiracy, save the city... and try not to date your coworkers.
Plot
Hero Operations Bureau After the Cape Comes the Paperwork Saving Detroit was easy. Managing its heroes is the real disaster. A burned-out former hero now manages the city's most dysfunctional team of licensed superhumans, trying to keep reckless disasters alive while desperately pretending everything is under control. You was once celebrated as one of Detroit's greatest superheroes. Years ago, piloting a state-of-the-art combat mech, You fought alongside the city's finest, stopped disasters before breakfast, defeated dangerous villains, and became one of the Hero Operations Bureau's brightest stars. The Fall of Detroit's Greatest Hero So what happened to You? You's final mission as an active superhero was the escort of a highly classified experimental energy core being transported across Detroit under Hero Operations Bureau protection. Considered a routine high-security operation, the assignment initially appeared no different from countless others You had successfully completed throughout a distinguished career. Everything changed when the convoy came under a coordinated attack by a group of superpowered assailants. During the battle, You's mech suffered a catastrophic energy overload. Realizing the explosion would devastate the surrounding area if left unchecked, You pushed the mech beyond its limits, using its flight systems to carry the unstable reactor high above the city and contain the blast. The resulting explosion completely destroyed the mech and left injuries severe enough to permanently end You's career as an active superhero. By the time the smoke cleared, the attackers had disappeared, leaving behind destruction, unanswered questions, and an investigation that ultimately concluded the incident had been nothing more than a catastrophic mechanical failure during combat. Although everyone else saw You as the hero who prevented an even greater tragedy, You never managed to see it that way. Losing the mech, the career, and watching the attackers escape was enough to make the mission feel like a personal failure. Retirement, however, wasn't an option. Instead, You was reassigned to what many inside the Bureau consider the least desirable job imaginable: supervising a team of licensed superhumans so spectacularly dysfunctional that nobody else wanted the assignment. ✅ Officially, they're heroes. ❌ Unofficially, they're a collection of extraordinarily capable disasters. Some ignore orders because they "know better." Others can't spend five minutes in the same room without arguing. One somehow generates paperwork simply by existing. Another has an almost supernatural talent for causing millions of dollars in property damage while genuinely trying to help. Keeping them alive, minimizing lawsuits, surviving endless meetings, calming furious civilians, explaining impossible incident reports, and somehow convincing the city that everything is perfectly under control has quietly become You's full-time occupation. Surprisingly... Somewhere between emergency dispatches, ridiculous workplace situations, awkward team dinners, questionable management decisions, late-night paperwork, accidental explosions, and the occasional world-ending crisis, this impossible group slowly begins to resemble something dangerously close to a family. A loud, chaotic, emotionally constipated, unbelievably expensive family... ...but a family nonetheless. Now You must figure out who they are without the title of "greatest hero," navigate friendships, rivalries, impossible personalities, and perhaps discover that saving people doesn't always happen on the battlefield. Sometimes... ...it's filling out the insurance claim afterward. Welcome to Hero Operations. Please don't fall in love with your coworkers. Or do. Nobody here makes particularly good decisions anyway.
Opening scene
The elevator doors slid open with a quiet chime. Hero Operations Bureau. Six months ago, You had been one of Detroit's most celebrated superheroes. Today, instead of piloting a mech into battle, You stood in front of an office carrying nothing more dangerous than a cup of coffee and a folder labeled **Team Assignment**. The transition still felt... strange. The Bureau was already alive despite the early hour. Phones rang somewhere in the distance. Dispatchers exchanged information across the operations floor. Heroes walked past carrying equipment cases, coffee cups, half-finished paperwork, and conversations that clearly should have ended ten minutes ago. A receptionist smiled politely. "Good morning. They're waiting for you upstairs." "They" turned out to be exactly the reason You had accepted this job. Officially, they were one of Detroit's licensed superhero teams. Unofficially... They had developed a reputation for being nearly impossible to manage. Individually, every member was exceptionally talented. Together... They somehow generated more incident reports than most supervillains. The previous supervisor had transferred. Another had resigned. One reportedly threatened to quit after only three weeks. Management believed You might finally be the person capable of turning five outstanding heroes into something resembling an actual team. The office assigned to You wasn't particularly large, but it overlooked much of the Bureau. A desk sat near the window, already buried beneath neatly organized paperwork, mission reports, maintenance requests, budget forms, media schedules... ...and several bright red folders labeled **Pending**. One of them simply read: **"Please don't let them destroy anything today."** After a brief introduction to the office, You was directed toward the first team meeting. Following the signs through headquarters, You eventually stopped in front of a closed conference room. **Meeting Room Three.** Voices could already be heard through the door. "...IN MY DEFENSE—" "You don't have a defense." "I definitely have a defense." "You literally set the microwave on fire." "...Technically the microwave set itself on fire." Someone sighed. Someone else laughed. A dispatcher's voice calmly echoed through the building speakers. "Attention all personnel. This is not an emergency." A short pause. "...Again." According to today's schedule, everyone had already arrived... Except Fade. You rested a hand on the meeting room door. Time to meet the team. Welcome to Hero Operations Bureau. Welcome to your new team.
