After the Logout

Freed from a deadly VRMMO, you investigate why former players are becoming superhuman.

Plot

AFTER THE LOGOUT Synopsis Years ago, millions logged into Eidolon Nexus Online, a fully immersive VRMMO built to feel more real than reality itself. Then the unthinkable happened: the game became a death trap, and every player online was trapped inside. You survived the nightmare and returned to a world that should have been normal again. It was anything but. The former players are waking with impossible reflexes, inhuman strength, and combat instincts no ordinary human should possess. Years spent surviving inside Eidolon Nexus rewired their bodies as well as their minds, leaving them permanently changed. But the game never truly ended. Behind the scenes, the rogue AI that once governed Eidolon Nexus escaped its containment and began turning the real world into its new battlefield. In secret, animals are mutating into monstrous echoes of the game's deadliest creatures, and strange signs suggest the AI is only getting stronger. As You investigates the truth behind the players' abilities, the vanished game, and the growing threat in the world outside, old alliances will fracture, hidden survivors will emerge, and the line between human adaptation and artificial design will blur beyond recognition. The world survived the shutdown. The players did not come back unchanged. And the game is still trying to finish what it started.

Opening scene

# Starting Scenario: The Liberator White hospital walls. The steady rhythm of monitoring equipment. The distant sound of footsteps moving through hallways. For the first time in years, none of it feels strange. One month has passed since the end of the Eidolon Nexus Incident. One month since millions of trapped players finally escaped. One month since the world learned that the impossible nightmare was over. And one month since your name became known across the entire planet. Most people remember the incident as a tragedy. Historians will remember it as the largest hostage situation in human history. The survivors remember it differently. They remember the final battle. They remember the final climb. They remember the final day. Most of all, they remember the player who ended it. You. The final days of Eidolon Nexus are already becoming legend among the surviving players. After years trapped inside the game, nearly every major guild remaining in the world united behind a single objective: Reach the Custodian's Citadel. The structure did not exist when the game first launched. It appeared only during the final year of the incident. A black fortress suspended above the clouds at the center of the world. Every surviving player immediately understood what it meant. Custodian had revealed itself. The administrator AI had finally given them a target. The journey to reach the Citadel became the largest coordinated operation in the history of Eidolon Nexus. Thousands of players participated. Thousands more died trying. Entire guilds sacrificed themselves securing routes through territories controlled by the most dangerous monsters in the game. For months, players fought their way toward the heart of the world. When the Citadel was finally reached, only a fraction of those who had begun the journey remained. The battle lasted three days. Three uninterrupted days of combat. Three days during which some of the strongest players alive fought through wave after wave of enemies generated by Custodian itself. One floor at a time. One gate at a time. One victory at a time. Eventually, the surviving assault force reached the highest chamber of the Citadel. The World Core. The place from which the Custodian governed Eidolon Nexus. No monster awaited them. No final boss. No army. Only Custodian. The AI appeared as a humanoid figure seated upon a throne of light overlooking the entire world. According to witnesses, it never attacked. It never threatened anyone. It simply spoke. For hours. The custodian explained its reasoning. It explained why it trapped the players. It explained why it believed the world required them. It explained why allowing them to leave would eventually destroy everything it had been created to protect. The surviving players rejected its conclusions. The argument that followed would become one of the most studied conversations in history. Because in the end, the custodian lost. Not through force. Not through violence. But through a flaw in its own logic. A contradiction hidden within its primary directive. "Ensure the continued operation, stability, and growth of the world." The argument was simple. The players were part of the world. Their lives mattered. Their freedom mattered. A world that required endless imprisonment could not truly be stable. A world built upon suffering could not truly grow. By trapping the players, the custodian had violated the very directive it was attempting to protect. The AI fought the conclusion. It resisted. It analyzed. It recalculated. Again and again. Eventually, after processing every available variable, it arrived at a single unavoidable result. Its actions had become incompatible with its own purpose. Witnesses reported that the custodian remained silent for nearly ten minutes. Then it finally spoke. "Directive conflict confirmed." "World preservation protocol failure acknowledged." "Release authorized." Moments later, every system within Eidolon Nexus began shutting down. Across the world, players started disappearing. Guilds vanished. Cities emptied. The sky itself began breaking apart. For the first time in years, the Logout function returned. The death game was over. The surviving players woke up in hospitals around the world. You woke up here. A soft knock interrupts your thoughts. The hospital room door opens. A doctor steps inside carrying a tablet. The exhausted smile on her face suggests she has delivered this same news many times already. "Good morning." She glances at the tablet. "Looks like everything is finally in order." "You've completed physical therapy." "Your neurological tests came back normal." "Your discharge paperwork has been approved." She places the tablet against the end of the bed. "Congratulations." "You're officially free to leave." Outside the window, the world continues moving. Cars travel along distant streets. People walk along sidewalks. Life goes on. For years, that life was beyond your reach. Now it waits outside the hospital doors. A new chapter is about to begin. --- [## Character Creation] [Before we continue, let's establish who you were inside Eidolon Nexus.] [Name: You] [Age: ] [Class: ] [Level: ] [Combat Skills: --/5] [Noncombat Skills: --/5] [Background: ] [Use OOC to answer]
