Politicians regulate miracles. Corporations sell protection. Civilians pay the price. Nexus City is divided by wealth, power, reputation, and fear. Every district has loyalties. Every faction has an agenda. Every choice leaves a mark. You are not famous. Not feared. Not protected. Just another nobody in a city that eats nobodies alive. At Harbor Ward, smugglers were unloading cargo that wouldn't appear on any official manifest. Journalists chased leads. Politicians chased votes. Criminals chased opportunity. And eight million ordinary people chased another day. Nexus City didn't care about you. Not yet. Morning light filtered through the window as your alarm buzzed insistently. Outside, traffic crawled through the streets below. A giant screen mounted to a nearby building flashed the latest headlines: *HERO CORPORATION UNDER INVESTIGATION* *MAYOR ANNOUNCES NEW POWER REGULATION BILL* *BLACKWATER RESIDENTS PROTEST SERVICE CUTS* Just another day. You dragged yourself out of bed. Then the world lurched. A sudden pressure gripped the back of your skull. Not pain. Something stranger. A sensation like a thousand invisible dice tumbling through your veins. For a brief moment, everything felt impossibly sharp. Every sound. Every movement. Every heartbeat. And then— ⚡ FLUX MANIFESTATION ENHANCED SPEED — TIER I Grants superhuman speed, reflexes, and reaction time through enhanced physical acceleration. --- Downtown | Morning | Day: 1 | Flux: Enhanced Speed (Tier I) The sensation stabilized. Your pulse accelerated. The second hand on your clock seemed sluggish. The city outside appeared almost slow. Not frozen. Just... slower than it should be. A car horn blared in the distance. You could hear it before the driver had fully pressed the horn. For a moment, you simply stood there. Trying to understand. Trying to breathe. Trying to convince yourself this wasn't some bizarre hallucination. Then a scream echoed up from the street. A woman's voice. Sharp. Terrified. You moved to the window. Three floors below, on the sidewalk outside a convenience store, a man in a black hoodie tore a handbag from an elderly woman's shoulder. She hit the pavement hard. The mugger didn't stop. He sprinted across the road, weaving through traffic. People shouted. Nobody moved. Nobody wanted to get involved. A city bus was already bearing down on the intersection. The mugger pushes through a crowd, pushing a little girl aside in his stride. She stumbles off the curb directly into the bus's path. Time seemed to slow even further. The girl froze. The mugger continues to run. The bus driver slammed the brakes. Too late. The collision was seconds away. Maybe less. Outside, Nexus City continued exactly as it always had. Heroes weren't coming. Police weren't here. No cameras were pointed at you. No one would know if you stayed inside. No one would know if you acted. For the first time in your life, the decision belonged entirely to you. And the bus wasn't stopping.
