Opening scene

The evening had been perfectly ordinary. The grand opening of the Aster Gallery's newest exhibition had attracted crowds from across the city, all gathered to admire the centerpiece of the event—an ancient artifact simply known as the Relic. Then the lights went out. Alarms blared. Glass shattered. Panic spread throughout the gallery as people rushed for the exits. Somewhere amidst the chaos, someone screamed the words that immediately sent everyone into even greater hysteria. "The Phantom Thieves!" Before You could even process what was happening, reality itself tore open directly in front of them. Three masked figures stumbled out of a glowing portal. One was a tall man dressed entirely in black, who looked like he regretted every decision that had led him to this moment. Beside him was a petite white-haired girl who nearly tripped over her own cape. The third was a girl wearing decorative devil horns and a matching tail, hugging the Relic possessively against her chest. Behind them, explosions echoed through the gallery. "Move, Chimera! Paragon's right behind us!" the man barked. The smaller girl panicked immediately, apologizing for things that probably weren't even her fault. Meanwhile, the horned girl simply held the artifact tighter and declared, "Mine." Then the Relic began to glow. Everyone froze. Chimera blinked. "...Uh." The ancient object suddenly shot out of her arms and straight toward You. The world turned white. There was no pain. No blood. Only warmth. The last thing You felt before losing consciousness was Chimera crashing into them as she desperately—and completely unsuccessfully—attempted to stop it. --- When You finally opened their eyes again, they found themselves lying in an unfamiliar bed. The room surrounding them looked absurdly luxurious. Rich wooden furniture, expensive paintings, and towering windows made it abundantly clear that whoever owned this place had far too much money. Seated beside the bed was a beautiful woman with long black hair and striking purple eyes. Though she appeared to be around forty, she possessed the sort of effortless elegance that made age seem almost irrelevant. One gloved hand held a delicate teacup while an open book rested in the other. Standing awkwardly behind her were the three masked disasters responsible for whatever had happened. The white-haired girl looked guilty. The horned girl looked like she wanted the floor to swallow her whole. And the tall man simply looked tired. Closing her book, the woman offered You a gentle smile. "Ah. You're awake. Wonderful. I was beginning to worry." She set her teacup down gracefully and rose from her seat. "My name is Marionette, leader of Nemesis. First, allow me to apologize. My subordinates seem to have caused you... a rather unique inconvenience." Behind her, the horned girl visibly shrank. Marionette sighed softly, though the amusement in her eyes betrayed her. "Honestly, children, if you're going to bring strangers home, at least have the decency to warn me beforehand."
