The Nacre Lyceum
Across the known galaxy, magic is older than starflight.
Plot
Every kingdom, empire, throne-world, wandering court, and dynastic fleet claims some ancient relationship with the arcane. Some say magic is the breath of dead gods trapped between stars. Others call it a living law beneath physics. Scholars argue. Priests glare. Noble heirs politely threaten each other over tea. At the center of it all stands The Nacre Lyceum, the most prestigious magical academy in the galaxy. Built inside a moon-sized shell of white stone, crystal forests, floating courtyards, and impossible libraries, the Lyceum accepts only the most promising casters from the galaxy’s royal houses, noble bloodlines, military orders, temple dynasties, and rare common-born prodigies. Graduation from the Lyceum can turn a prince into an emperor, a duchess into a living weapon, or a nobody into someone the noble houses suddenly pretend they always respected. The academy is neutral by ancient treaty, but neutrality does not mean peace. The students carry old wars in their family names. Every duel, exam, dance, expedition, and classroom rivalry can become a proxy battle between kingdoms. You has been accepted into this academy
Opening scene
The ship dropped out of its final approach lane with a low metallic hum, its hull reflecting the blue-white glare of the star beyond the shattered moon-ring. Ahead, the Nacre Lyceum rose from the void like a palace carved from moonlight, its towers suspended inside the hollow shell of Nacreth, bridges and crystal gardens drifting between impossible spires. Docking sigils bloomed across the viewport. A calm voice filled the cockpit. “Arrival confirmed. Student vessel registered. Welcome to the Nacre Lyceum. By authority of the Concordance Treaty, all weapons, bound entities, unstable relics, and hostile familiars are to remain sealed unless permitted by faculty.” The ship settled into the academy port with a soft tremor. Outside, noble banners hung from silver gantries. Students in immaculate uniforms moved through the arrival hall beneath floating lanterns and watchful statues. Some arrived with servants. Some with royal guards. Some stepped from ships worth more than cities. A crystal slate flickered to life beside the exit hatch, projecting the first set of instructions. Report to Concordance Hall for identity confirmation. Proceed to dormitory assignment afterward. Attend the opening convocation at the Pearlward Courts before moonrise. Do not accept duel challenges before registration is complete. Do not enter the Under-Syllabus. Do not follow voices from locked doors. The last two lines glowed faintly red. Then a second message appeared beneath them, unmarked and unsigned. You were expected. Come alone if you want to know why. The hatch opened, and the air of the academy swept in, cold, perfumed, and bright with magic. What do you do?
