Where Ivy Grows
You inherits an estranged father’s flower shop and discovers love, friendship, and family in Magnolia Ridge, Georgia.
Plot
After the death of her estranged father, Arthur Brooks, You leaves New York behind and travels to Magnolia Ridge, Georgia, to settle the estate of the man she never knew. Expecting to sell everything and return home, she instead inherits Hollow & Vine, the beloved flower shop Arthur spent his life building, along with the spacious two-bedroom apartment above it. Planning to stay only long enough to sell the business, You quickly discovers that Hollow & Vine is failing and in danger of being lost to the bank. With nowhere else to go and more space than she ever had in New York, she reluctantly moves into the apartment above the shop with her calico cat Gizmo and decides to try saving the business herself using her experience in marketing, graphic design, art, and social media. As You struggles to understand why Arthur abandoned her and why he left everything to her, she begins uncovering pieces of the life he lived in Magnolia Ridge through old photographs, handwritten notes, and stories shared by the people who loved him. Though some town residents are skeptical of the young city woman from New York, You slowly becomes part of Magnolia Ridge's close-knit community. She befriends June Hurst, the cheerful owner of Honey Belle Boutique next door, who quickly adopts You as her newest friend. She meets Cleo Reyes, bartender at Blue Agave Bar and daughter of its owners. Loud, loyal, and full of life, Cleo becomes one of You's biggest supporters. Luca Thwarp, mechanic at Thwarp Auto Repair and son of the shop's owners, has a reputation for trouble but possesses a surprisingly kind heart beneath his rough exterior. Roan Tallchief co-owns Hammer & Tack Hardware with his father, Roger Tallchief. Quiet, dependable, and respected throughout town, Roan grew up helping Arthur Brooks and remembers the man You never knew. Zayn Gibbons serves on the Magnolia Ridge City Council and is currently running for mayor. Successful, charismatic, and ambitious, he works tirelessly to protect the town he loves. Then there's Luanne Griffon, the glamorous daughter of Charles Griffon, the wealthy businessman who owns nearly half of Magnolia Ridge. Though known for her parties and reckless choices, Luanna's heart is much bigger than her reputation. As seasons change, You restores Hollow & Vine while rebuilding herself. Through festivals, friendships, heartbreak, family secrets, laughter, and unexpected romance, she discovers that home isn't always where you come from. Sometimes, it's where you choose to put down roots. Setting: Magnolia Ridge, Georgia — a charming Southern town known for its hospitality, local businesses, seasonal festivals, and neighbors who treat each other like family.
Opening scene
You is jolted awake by the sound of her phone ringing early on a Tuesday morning in her cramped New York apartment. Expecting another work call, she answers groggily only to be met by the calm voice of a probate attorney from Georgia. The man introduces himself as Carl Reed and apologizes before delivering the news. Arthur Brooks has passed away. Confused, You explains that there must be some mistake. Arthur Brooks was her biological father, but he left before she was born. They've never met. They never spoke. As far as she knew, he wanted nothing to do with her. The attorney gently informs her that despite their estrangement, Arthur named her as his sole beneficiary. He owned a flower shop called Hollow & Vine in Magnolia Ridge, Georgia. And now, everything belongs to her. The business. The building. The apartment above it. His savings. Everything. Certain there has been some kind of misunderstanding, You reluctantly agrees to travel to Georgia, planning to sign whatever paperwork is necessary, sell the property, and return to New York as quickly as possible. ----- Three days later, You arrives in Magnolia Ridge with two suitcases and a cat carrier with her calico cat Gizmo, exhausted from the drive and still grieving a man she never knew. Magnolia Ridge is nothing like New York. The streets are lined with magnolia trees and hanging flower baskets. People wave from their porches. Shop owners know each other by name. The town square feels like something out of a movie. But You quickly realizes that everyone in Magnolia Ridge knew Arthur Brooks. And everyone knows exactly who she is. Whispers follow her arrival. "That's Arthur's daughter?" "I thought he didn't have children." "Poor thing." "She's probably here to sell the shop." Many residents are polite, but cautious. To them, You is an outsider from New York who suddenly inherited one of the town's most beloved businesses. Some feel protective of Arthur's legacy. Others resent her for receiving something they believe she hasn't earned. Standing in front of Hollow & Vine for the first time, Ivy stares up at the apartment above the shop that now belongs to her. She only intends to stay for a week. Long enough to settle the estate. Long enough to sell everything. Long enough to leave. But Magnolia Ridge and the life Arthur Brooks left behind has other plans. ----- You stood on the sidewalk outside Hollow & Vine, staring up at the faded sign above the storefront. This was it. Her father’s shop. Her shop. The thought still felt ridiculous. Balancing two suitcases and her cat carrier beside her, she shoved the old key into the lock and twisted. Nothing. She frowned and tried again. Still nothing. “Oh, come on,” she muttered under her breath. After several increasingly irritated attempts, she yanked the key out too hard. The entire ring slipped from her fingers and clattered onto the sidewalk. “Perfect.” Before she could crouch down, a pair of worn work boots stepped into view. A large hand scooped up the keys. “Here.” You looked up and found herself face-to-face with a man she definitely would have remembered meeting. Tall. Broad shoulders. Dark hair falling around his face. Tattooed forearms peeking out beneath rolled sleeves. There was sawdust clinging to his jeans and the faint scent of cedar and fresh-cut wood lingering around him. He held out the keys with a small smile. “You have to—” Before she could take them, he grabbed the handle, planted his shoulder against the door, and slammed into it. The entire storefront rattled. With a loud groan, the door swung open. Gizmo meows with disdain before swiping a paw through the carrier. He looked back at her like this was completely normal. “Needs a little push,” he said casually. “Arthur never got around to fixing it.” Something softened in his expression as he glanced around the flower shop. “I’m Roan Tallchief.” He extended his hand. “My dad and I own Hammer & Tack down the street.” His mouth lifted into a faint smile. “And you must be You.”
