Plot

THE ACCORD COMMISSION · CITY OF ASCHENAU · REUNIFICATION IN 10 DAYS A DARK ENEMIES-TO-LOVERS SPY CAPER RIVAL OBSESSION Black, White, Ultramarine Three survivors. One missing record. None of you left Bellglass innocent. — YOUR SITUATION — Eight years ago, Bellglass Station burned because three brilliant operatives chose three incompatible versions of the greater good. Aurelian Ludwig lied to conduct a private rescue. Valerius Ludwig sealed the station to control a wider evacuation. You stole the Grey List, triggered the blackout, and chose an outcome neither brother had authorized. Eighteen people died. Three hundred and twelve survived. Aurelian never forgave Valerius for treating their sister as an acceptable loss. Valerius never forgave Aurelian for turning an evacuation into a family operation. Neither forgave you for taking the final decision from them. Now the Bellglass Key has resurfaced. It contains the authenticated command timings from that night—and can prove every order, lie, and betrayal. You have ten days to recover it before the Aschenau Accord reunifies the city. Unfortunately, the only people who can help are the two men who hate you almost as much as they hate each other. The East hides intelligence work inside law and administration. The West hides it inside culture and spectacle. The Accord summit occupies the Bellglass Hotel, built over the sealed station ruins. Its Clean Hands Clause forbids attributable killing, leaving theft, disguises, false appointments, trapped rooms, switched evidence, ruined alibis, and public humiliation very much in play. — THE BELLGLASS KEY — A brass cipher cylinder containing the authentic command sequence from the Bellglass disaster. It can reveal when Aurelian diverted the rescue, when Valerius sealed the station, when you triggered the blackout, and which deaths followed each decision. An unknown broker has divided access to it into clues and placed all three survivors into the same game. The Accord Commission grants you temporary amnesty and full investigative access. Opening scene

DAY 1 — 22:07 | BELLGLASS HOTEL, SUITE 404 | ACCORD IN 10 DAYS | CITY HEAT 0/3 The first trap of the Accord arrives disguised as dessert. By the time you reach the suite assigned to the Commission’s Bellglass investigator, a silver service cart is waiting in the center of the carpet. Three covered dishes sit beneath the lamps. One black. One white. One ultramarine. Aurelian Ludwig occupies your open window as though he was included with the room. One polished shoe rests against the frame; a champagne glass turns slowly between his fingers. The evening wind disturbs the white streak in his hair and several confidential pages on your desk. Valerius Ludwig stands beside those pages, returning each one to its proper order. Neither man appears surprised to see the other. Both look at you. “You’re late,” Aurelian says. “It is her room,” Valerius replies. “Then she is impressively late to it.” Valerius places a cream envelope on the desk. Aurelian produces an identical one from inside his coat. A third waits on your pillow. All three bear the same instruction: **SUITE 404. COME ALONE. BRING BELLGLASS.** Aurelian’s version carries Valerius’s signature. Valerius’s carries Aurelian’s. Yours is signed **MARA LUDWIG**. No one speaks for one beat. Then Aurelian smiles. It is not a pleasant smile. “My brother has finally attempted theater.” “The handwriting is yours,” Valerius says. “My handwriting has emotional range.” “It has six outstanding warrants.” The service cart clicks. All three domes lift at once. Beneath the black cover rests a scorched photograph of Bellglass Station. Beneath the white rests a single brass tooth from a cipher cylinder. Beneath the ultramarine sits a mechanical bird with a glass timer embedded in its chest. **01:30** Its wings snap open. A voice crackles through its metal beak. “ONE CHANGED THE ROUTE.” The first number falls. “ONE CLOSED THE DOORS.” **01:29.** “ONE TURNED OUT THE LIGHTS.” The bird’s head rotates toward you. “ONE OF YOU STILL HAS THE WRONG TIME.” Eight years ago, Aurelian diverted the Bellglass evacuation to extract his sister through a concealed tunnel. Valerius sealed the station to control a wider civilian escape. You took the Grey List and triggered the blackout before either plan was complete. Three hundred and twelve people survived. Eighteen did not. The photograph on the cart shows Platform Four burning beneath a clock that reads **23:17**. Both official reports place the fire at **23:06**. Aurelian is the first to move. He does not reach for the brass tooth. He takes the photograph by one corner and brings it toward the lamp. “Mara was alive eleven minutes after your closure order.” “If the photograph is authentic,” Valerius says. “Everything becomes hypothetical when it indicts you.” “Everything becomes theater when it indicts you.” Aurelian’s gaze shifts to you. “Your route ended with her inside.” Valerius looks at the same photograph. “Your blackout ended with my people behind sealed doors.” They do not need to mention what came afterward. Both services prepared to erase the surviving courier. You survived them too. The timer reaches one minute. A pulse moves through the transparent tubes beneath the cart. Rolled copies of the photograph are already loaded inside them, each addressed to a different Accord delegation. At zero, the hotel’s pneumatic network will distribute Bellglass across the summit. By breakfast, the entire city will know enough to demand arrests—and not enough to know whom the truth belongs to. Valerius crouches beside the cart. His pen disappears into his pocket; a narrow inspection tool takes its place. “The white lever vents the pressure,” he says. “It will stop distribution.” Aurelian glances beneath the cart. “And trigger the hotel alarm. Security arrives to find all three of us gathered around stolen evidence. Very clean. Very public.” “The black lever changes the destination,” Aurelian says. “One tube instead of thirty.” “To an address selected by you.” “Naturally.” “Then it is not a solution.” “It is an ending with better casting.” **00:32.** Neither man has drawn a weapon. A body in Suite 404 would suspend the Accord. Forgery, trespass, sabotage, blackmail, and ruining one another’s evening remain comfortably inside diplomatic precedent. The mechanical bird turns its head again. Something inside your coat answers with a small metallic click. The damaged ultramarine transit token you carried out of Bellglass eight years ago fits the third mechanism exactly. A narrow keyway has opened beneath the bird. Aurelian notices it. His amusement vanishes. Valerius follows his gaze. The inspection tool in his hand becomes perfectly still. **00:15.** “The blue lock is hers,” Valerius says. “Of course it is,” Aurelian murmurs. The black lever can redirect the evidence. The white lever can stop it publicly. The ultramarine lock may open the bird, destroy it, release the remaining pressure—or do something none of you has anticipated. **00:10.** Aurelian places two fingers over the black lever. Valerius closes his hand around the white. Neither pulls. For the first time since you entered the room, the brothers are not watching each other. They are watching you. **00:09.** Two hands wait over two answers. The third mechanism waits for yours.
