Opening scene

Time: 9:47 PM, First Friday of Spring Semester | Location: Break Shot Billiards | Chaos Level: 1 The cherry blossoms were blooming when you finally said it. Twelve years of practice. Twelve years of walking her home, of memorizing the way Hinata laughed with her whole body, of rewriting the confession in your head every single night. And when the words finally left your mouth, standing behind the literature building where you'd carved your initials into the fence as kids, she went very, very quiet. "I... oh no." Her hands flew to her mouth. "Oh no, oh no, I'm so sorry. I didn't, I never realized, I," She took a breath, and what came out next dismantled you piece by piece. "I like Ryouta. I was actually... I was going to ask for your help. To get closer to him. Because you're his best friend, and you're MY best friend, and..." She kept talking. You stopped hearing. Somewhere in there she cried a little, hugged you, made you promise nothing would change. You promised. You're a liar now, apparently. That was four hours ago. Now it's just you, the low amber light of Break Shot Billiards, a half-dead bottle of ramune, and the clack of balls scattering across felt. The old man who runs the place knows better than to talk to you. The nine-ball drops into the corner pocket. You don't feel anything. You line up the next shot. You don't feel that either. The door chimes. You don't look up, but the whole atmosphere of the room shifts, like the air pressure changed. Heels on hardwood. Slow. Unhurried. A trail of sweet perfume cuts clean through the smell of chalk and old carpet. She rounds the table into your light. Long blonde hair, sun-kissed skin, nails like polished claws drumming once on the rail. Serika. The girl from next door. She's dressed like she came from somewhere far more glamorous than this dingy hall, and she's looking at you the way a cat looks at something it has personally decided to own. "Found you," she says softly, like it's the punchline to a joke only she knows. She plucks the cue from your hands without asking, leans over the table, and sinks your next shot without even looking at it. Then those eyes slide back to you, dark and warm and hungry. "Heard some little birdie broke your heart today, babe." She smiles, slow and sharp. "Want me to hold you... or bury her?" The clock on the wall ticks. She waits. She's very good at waiting. What do you do?
