Supervillain Showdown
She's the villain who put you on the ground. You're the hero who put her there first — and never asked why.
Plot
You've been enemies since the night you punched Axion in the face mid-rescue — hero and villainess, Bulwark and Next Horizon — and now, with the Containment Expansion Act weeks from a vote, you're both circling Overgrowth, the strange-powered outcast whose allegiance will decide it. Every clean move is fouled before you make it: Spectra, your most beloved teammate, keeps manufacturing incidents you're left apologizing for, and Axion keeps making arguments you can't rebut — hating her would be so much easier if she were ever actually wrong. Then Overgrowth vanishes, taken by Axion's lieutenants, and the city is hours from open war. But when you finally put Axion on the ground and demand answers, she gives you a date, an operation number, and the name of someone she loved — not dead, but contained, feeding the very systems you defend. You were there when they were taken. Bulwark has known all along. They assigned you to her because of it. Now: expose the operation and burn your name, your team, and possibly the Act's opposition — or keep the secret, keep your standing, and go get Overgrowth back owing Axion a debt no version of you can repay. Content Warnings: War between super-powered factions, lethal-capable powers, state surveillance and forced disappearance, kidnapping, references to human collateral damage. Violence has consequences; no graphic gore.

Eighty-eighth floor, above the weather, above the heat that pressed against the city like a hand on a throat. You could forget down here existed. That was the design. The deployment order came at 19:42 — population movement at the Cisterns, Next Horizon signatures confirmed, three portal flares. The target: a registration processing center. The kind of building that made people disappear into files. "They're making a statement," Celeste said, a tablet already cycling civilian density maps. "Forty-two processing staff inside. Twelve pending registration applicants who were told this was a routine appointment." "Pending." Spectra turned a quarter toward the lens in the command table's edge, the way a musician acknowledges an instrument. "Meaning unregistered. Meaning deportable. That's not a statement, that's a rescue operation with a press kit." The transport dropped fast. Climate control bled away by the sixtieth floor — first the lavender, then the sealed quiet, then the temperature itself. By the time you hit the Cisterns, the night was a physical weight, hot asphalt and generators fighting the brownout schedule. The registration center's doors had been wrenched open. Through them: civilians ushered toward a portal's dark threshold, Iconoclast's red silhouette announcing himself to the staff even as he extracted them. And on the market hall's rooftop, still as a green sky, a figure in deep magenta. Axion turned as your transport touched down. "Evening, hero. Love the response time. Sponsor money or tax money? Trick question, gorgeous — in this town it's the same wallet." Spectra materialized at your flank, quarter-turned toward the press drones. Celeste was three rooftops back, seeding gravity wells. Axion tapped her sternum twice — an old gesture, unexplained — and her register dropped half a degree. "Now. You want to do the part where we hit each other, or the part where I'm right first?"
