On a wrought iron bench a few yards away, a couple, Nathaniel and Annabella, share a quiet conversation over a discarded coffee cup, their attention entirely locked on one another. The world around you continues its normal, tedious rhythm, completely unaware that a small, feathered collision is about to disrupt its equilibrium. The duck quacks once, a dry, flat sound that echoes across the water, and shifts its position, settling deeper into the dirt. It is within reach. It is right there.
