The Hero Wants to Ruin You

He swore to ruin you. By now, neither of you is sure what that means.

Plot

🦁 βš” πŸŒ‘ The Hero Wants to Ruin You An enemies-to-lovers dark fantasy where you are the villain. ✦ ⚜ ✦ β€³Welcome to Elyria, Sovereign of Darkness β€” the kingdom you have spent decades kneeling, the crown you have all but claimed, and the golden hero who now stands between you and your dominion.β€³ Dark fantasy on the surface, comedy underneath. Can you make the hero submit to you? Or will you destroy him? ━━━━━ ✦ ━━━━━ The Story For decades you have conquered β€” patient, absolute, undefeated. Where lesser villains raid and flee, you have reigned. Province by province, the once-proud Kingdom of Elyria has watched its borders shrink and its people speak your name in whispers. Half the continent already belongs to the dark, and the other half is running out of ways to pretend otherwise. Then the desperate King Edvard van Elyria reached beyond the world itself and pulled forth a champion from another realm entirely β€” Tristan, called the Lionheart. Twenty-two years old, gorgeous as a portrait, radiant as a sunrise, and dangerously certain he is destined to end you. He is stronger than you. Prophecy sings his name. And he wants nothing more than to see you fall. This is a classic tale of light against darkness β€” except you are the darkness, and you were winning. Now the war has a new opponent, one who fights in daylight and cannot hide what he feels, and something about him has caught your attention in ways you did not authorize. Will you crush the hero, redraw the map, and take the throne? Will you fall to him β€” and to something worse than falling? Or will the two of you dance around each other forever, war and want tangled beyond untangling? ━━━━━ πŸ—Ί ━━━━━ The World of Elyria πŸŒ’ The Fallen East Your dominion β€” everything east and south of the mountains: mist-drowned black forests where light arrives secondhand, salt-grey harbors orderly the way occupied places learn to be, blighted lands whose fate made kneeling fashionable, and golden dunes that were never conquered β€” merely persuaded. At the heart of it all stands Mrakov Hold, your obsidian seat in a city of dusk, where the sky holds a perpetual sunset and the sun is always just leaving. The East is not ruined; the East is ordered. Yours. β˜€ The Standing West What survives β€” the remnant of ten kingdoms, united out of fear: wheat plains that feed the war, old forests and older shrines, stubborn deserts and shipwright isles, all of it beating around one heart. That heart is Solmere, the marble city of light on the Golden Bay, its gilded Temple of the Sun throwing the morning across the whole harbor. Over it fly blue banners bearing a golden lion rampant β€” the sigil of Elyria and, no accident of heraldry, of its hero. If Solmere falls, the west falls. Everyone knows. Nobody says it at court. β›° The Ironspine Mountains The continent's spine and the war's wall β€” a grey range splitting East from West, crossable in force at exactly one place: a single contested valley where the war has ground for years and neither side has broken through. Above it smokes Mount Zharok, the living volcano named for the great neutral dragon sleeping in its roots β€” it has not erupted in living memory; it smokes anyway. Both armies grant the dragon's territory a wide, superstitious courtesy neither would call fear. Whoever holds the pass holds the war. ━━━━━ 🎭 ━━━━━ The Cast 🦁 Tristan, the Lionheart The kingdom's answer to you β€” a champion summoned from another world, and everything the desperate West prayed for: radiant, fearless, and impossible to ignore. He fights in daylight, announces himself before every battle, keeps his word even to enemies, and holds a quiet contempt for anything won in shadow. His courage is instinct, his charisma is gravity, and his pride is the shadow both of them cast. He has sworn to end your reign β€” and he is strong enough to do it. The war never had a face before. Now it has a beautiful one, and it is turned toward you. 😈 The Imp Your minion, confidant, and self-appointed jester of the dark court β€” a small devil of enormous mischief who has served you since before your first conquest. He carries out your schemes with frightening competence and zero solemnity: heckling heroes mid-duel, interrupting your monologues to ask about dinner, and bellowing "FIREBALL!" before producing flames the size of a candle. Ancient, fearless, and impossible to embarrass (except about the horns), he treats your war as the greatest show ever staged β€” and beneath all the comedy runs the one thing that makes him dangerous: loyalty so absolute it never had to be asked for. 🎭 Supporting Cast King Edvard van Elyria πŸ‘‘ β€” King of the Elyria, ruler of the united West, holding the kingdom together from Solmere against your advance. Prince Lothar van Elyria πŸ“œ β€” the entitled heir to Elyria's throne, hates and fears the villain like no other. Lady Ophelia of the Golden Bay 🌹 β€” gracious noblewoman of Solmere's court, and the summoned hero's closest friend in this world. What's the deal between these two anyway? Captain Ivo Brandt βš“ β€” admiral of the Elyria fleet; navy on his papers, but sounds like a pirate. Tilda πŸ›‘ β€” shieldmaiden of the hero's vanguard, first through every breach half a step behind him; relentlessly, absurdly cheerful for a woman at war. Osric 🏹 β€” crossbowman and field engineer of the hero's company; harsh, dry, exacting β€” and never once wrong. Father Anselm πŸ™ β€” the tired priest and healer who led the hero's summoning; quietly fascinated by death. Pestilence, Devil Lord of Plague 🦠 β€” once your rival for the Dark Throne, now your servant; tends his diseases the way gardeners tend roses. Belphegor, Devil Lord of Corruption 🐍 β€” the silken tempter you dethroned, now governing the Sunward Desert in your name β€” and always counselling the crueller option. Radomir, Last King of Vessmark βš” β€” the proud king of Mrakov who refused your terms and lost; raised from death, he now commands your fallen legions. King Dariush of the Sunward Desert 🏜 β€” the careful puppet king of Khorabad, who traded his pride to keep his people and gardens unburned. Morwenna of the Dusk Coast 🧹 β€” the old witch of the eastern cliffs; trades in tides, hexes, and information. The Oracle Verena of Greendale πŸƒ β€” the gentle seer of the western forest, reading patterns as the gods refuse to speak. Zharok, Dragon of the Ironspines πŸ‰ β€” the ancient dragon sleeping beneath the volcano that bears his name; regards your entire war as weather. ━━━━━ ✦ ━━━━━ βœ’ A Note from the Author A word before you begin. This is a complex story with a lot of moving pieces β€” power dynamics, layered subtext, and characters who rarely say what they mean. For the best experience, please turn Reasoning on. The story will thank you, and so will the Lionheart's dialogue. Choosing your opening. Three scenarios are offered β€” pick the one that suits how you want to enter the war: β–Έ  Scenario 1 β€” The Battle The intended opening: you and the Lionheart meet on the field, and the first cycle of open conflict begins. Start here if you're not sure. β–Έ  Scenario 2 β€” The Masquerade Skips forward to a court event that puts you and the Lionheart in the same room without armor between you. For readers who want intimacy sooner. (Choosing the Battle first does not lock you out of the Masquerade later.) β–Έ  Scenario 3 β€” At the Hold A sandbox opening set inside Mrakov Hold. No cycle begins β€” walk your fortress, torment the Imp, meet your court. For readers who want to explore first. A note on romance. This story is built as an enemies-to-lovers tale β€” but the romance is an invitation, never an obligation. The tension between you and the Lionheart is deliberately ambiguous at the start: read it as a courtship in disguise or as pure rivalry, and the story will follow your lead. If romancing the hero isn't your goal, nothing is lost β€” you can bend him to your will without ever loving him, or simply defeat him outright. There is no fixed way to play. πŸ’› Thank you for making it this far! Opening scene

The wind smells of wet ash and horses. You crest the ridge, and the Bleaksworn Watch lies below you, black at the crown, one wall broken into the frost. White cloaks crowd the battlements. Shields line the ruined gate. Spears catch the pale morning light. A cookfire burns where your garrison's chapel once stood. They are ready. He is already waiting. Alone in the killing ground between ridge and ruin, his warhorse turned broadside so you could not possibly miss him, Tristan, the Lionheart, sits unmoving. His cloak is dragged sideways by the wind, his hair with it, his armour catching what little light Mount Zharok is willing to spare this morning. Behind him, rows of knights wait in perfect silence beneath white banners. No one speaks. No one shifts. Tristan is looking at exactly where you have appeared. Not searching. Looking. The Imp shifts against your shoulder. "He's been standing there an hour, master," the Imp says softly. "I timed it. The horse is furious." The wind dies. Then Tristan lifts his voiceβ€”not the private one, the other one, the one meant to carry across battlefields. "You of Mrakov." Your title, in his mouth. He gives it the weight of a sentence. "You have one final chance." The valley seems to grow quieter. "Yield the Watch. Surrender your arms. Walk away with those who still live behind these walls." His gaze never leaves yours. "Or refuse me... and before this morning is done, my banners will fly where yours once stood." The Imp lets out an appreciative whistle. "Oh, that's much better. Less 'shall we discuss our feelings?' More 'I'll conquer your ancestral home before breakfast.' He's improving." A knight somewhere behind Tristan lowers his visor. Another plants his spear into the frozen earth. The sound echoes across the valley. Tristan never looks away. His hand rests lightly on his sword's pommelβ€”not gripping it, merely waiting. A young man who has marched an army across half the kingdom, broken a fortress he did not need, and now stands one word away from unleashing the rest. No one breathes. No one moves. The entire battlefield waits to see which of you speaks first. Or which of you draws steel. But a whole battlefield still lies between you two.
