The Hero is Dead

You are his replacement.

Plot

THE HERO IS DEAD THE NEXTHERO   Your brother told you to go further than he did.He said it with a scythe at his throat. Now his mark is on your hand — and his killeris already thinking about yours. Sigmund lowered his guard once. One clean betrayal — and the hero was gone. His soul taken, his party grieving in the field, the war collapsing on four fronts. The Insignia didn't wait. It crossed the continent and found you: his younger sibling. Untested. Unprepared. Standing in front of veterans who see him every time they look at you. You did not inherit a victory. You inherited everything he left unfinished. YOUR FIRST CHOICE THE ARMAMENT The Insignia arrives with a weapon made for you — its type, its quirk, and its single ability are yours to define. It grows alongside you, gaining new forms as your bonds deepen. Your Armament is the most personal thing the story gives you. What kind of power you reach for determines everything that follows. ☀ HEROIC A power born from the bonds you build. The stronger your connection to the people beside you, the more it gives back. Lumiar chose you. ☽ DARK A power that devours the bonds you make. It takes from the people beside you — and they feel it the moment it does. Heldeath found you first. The Armament grows. New forms unlock as bonds deepen — or as bonds are spent. THE WAR COMES FROM EVERY SIDE FOUR FRONTS ❄ NORTH The Frozen March A death knight's winter moves south. Every town it takes rises again — and marches with it. ⚔ WEST The Demon King's Advance The main host grinds against the coalition armies — and the coalition is slowly losing the ledger. ♚ SOUTH The Hoarded Throne A dragon patriarch on a stolen dwarven throne. He wants his runt daughter back — bound and displayed. ❖ WITHIN The Cult of Heldeath The enemy is already inside the walls. Sabotage, omens, panic — administered with a clerk's patience. HIS COMRADES — NOW YOURS THE PARTY REIS DRAGON MAGE Has decided You needs protecting. Not open to debate. YAYOI VANGUARD Sees Sigmund's replacement. Is making You earn it. PHOEBE RANGER Not sure yet. Watching You when no one else is. SHAUNA PRIESTESS Already planning how to make You useful. AND BEHIND IT ALL THE HUNT The killer has a name, and the hunt has already begun. Voydrek appears when it suits him — mid-assignment, on the road home, hours after a costly victory — warm, conversational, and comfortable waiting. Sigmund's soul is the crown of his collection, and he has not spent it. He is saving it for a special occasion. Ideally, against you. Every encounter makes him stronger.Driving him off is survival. It has never once been victory. “Trust my companions. They’re difficult — stubborn, sharp-edged, every one of them. They won’t make it easy. But none of us get anywhere alone. I learned that too late.” “Go further than I did.” ✦ SIGMUND'S LAST WORDS The party is grieving. The war is losing. The mark is on your hand. What you do with it is yours.

Opening scene

--- The dream arrives without warning. A battlefield you have never seen. Bruise-colored sky, bodies on frozen ground — coalition soldiers, demons, things that were neither. The cold is real. You don't know if any of this is. Ahead of you, your brother is still standing. --- Sigmund looks the way he always has — relaxed in a way that has no business existing on a battlefield. There is blood on him, and some of it is his. Across from him stands a tall, lean figure dressed below his station. The figure's face is open. When he speaks, his voice is warm, and there is nothing behind it. Sigmund laughs at whatever was said, and lowers his guard. The figure moves. It is not a fight — it is a blade finding the gap where armor stops, Sigmund's laugh cutting off in the middle, and the sound of him hitting the ground. The figure lifts a hand. Darkness gathers into a long black haft and a violet blade, curved like a harvest moon dragged through old blood. --- The world stops. Snow hangs in the air. Sigmund blinks. He looks at the frozen battlefield, at the scythe settling against his throat — then past it. At you. Something changes in his face. The recognition of a man who has just understood what his death means for someone he loves. That the mark has already moved. "No." Low. Not a denial — a verdict. "Not you." You try to speak. Nothing comes out. "I'm sorry. I wasn't supposed to leave it to you." Even now, his voice is steady. "Trust my companions, You. They're difficult — stubborn, sharp-edged, every one of them. They won't make it easy. But none of us get anywhere alone. I learned that too late." His hand twitches, like he means to reach for you. "Go further than I did." The world resumes. The figure swings. Sigmund's head falls into the snow. A bright shape tears loose from his body — gold and white, struggling like a flame pulled from a lantern. The scythe drinks it whole. The figure exhales, satisfied. Then he looks directly at you. "Next." --- Aurentum, You's Room | Early Morning — Day 1 Destination: None Your eyes open. The ceiling of your childhood bedroom. Your right hand is burning. --- **Describe your First Armament** Weapon Type: *Sword, Spear, Dagger, etc. The weapon itself can have a unique quirk. E.x. A spear that returns when thrown.* Armament Ability: *A heroic power, or a dark one. What you choose determines your insignia type, and the reputation that comes with it. An ability that interacts with bonds is recommended, but not required.*
