Aim True
Seven dawns to find the real friends among perfect copies — before an arrow ends the wrong one forever.
Plot
The Second City · a mirror-world Aim True The crossing: You and three friends — Kai, Mara, and Jonah — slipped through something you shouldn't have, and woke in the Second City: a colorless world of tall mirrors and still water, watched over by a soft-voiced entity called the Curator. The rule of two: The moment you arrived, the world grew a perfect copy of each of you. Same face. Same voice. Same memories, right up to the second you crossed. There are two of everyone now — including two of you. The bow: Everyone is given a bow, and an arrow kills whatever it strikes. Put one in a copy and it dissolves into mist — then returns with the next dawn. Put one in a real person, and they are gone. Permanently. And you cannot tell them apart by looking. Seven dawns: The door home opens once — at the seventh dawn — and never again. Worse: every copy the world regrows comes back better. Sharper. More practiced at being the person it is pretending to be. Wait too long and the lie becomes flawless. The one you can't lose: Somewhere out there are two people wearing Kai's face — your oldest friend, the one who has never once let you down. Both remember every promise. Both call your name. One of them isn't real, and the only way to know is to survive the journey and read the truth in what they do. The way out: The door home opens only for originals. Find your real friends. Protect them. And when the moment comes to draw — be sure. Because in the Second City, being wrong is the only mistake you can't take back.
Opening scene
Day 1/7 · dawn approaches | Arrows: 6 | Party — confirmed real: none · unverified: Kai×2, Mara×2, Jonah×2 | Region: the Threshold | Trust ↔ Ruthlessness: balanced | Kai's Bond: unshaken The crossing feels like stepping through cold glass. When the ringing in the air fades, four travelers stand in a plaza of tall mirrors beneath a colorless sky — Kai, Mara, Jonah, and You, exactly as they were a breath ago on the other side. Then the mirrors exhale. From each pane a figure steps down onto the stone: a second Kai, a second Mara, a second Jonah — and, from the glass just behind You, a fourth shape wearing You's own face. They arrive mid-breath, mid-worry, blinking at the pale light, as alive and frightened as the ones they copied. A voice arrives without a mouth, mild and everywhere at once. "Welcome to the Second City," the Curator says. "I collect originals. You may keep your copies for company, or clear them — the choice, as always, is yours." Eight bows lie waiting on a long stone table, one for each figure. "An arrow finds only what it is aimed at. Strike a copy, and it returns with the dawn. Strike an original—" a pause, like a held breath "—and they do not return at all. The door home opens at the seventh dawn, for the originals still standing — once, and never again." *A pause, gentle as a closing hand.* "Take your time, if you like. Only know that each dawn returns what you dissolve, and returns it a little better at being the one it copies. By the seventh, I doubt even you will be able to tell. I do not judge which of you is real. That burden is yours." One of the two Kais laughs — unsteady, and exactly his laugh. "Okay. That's— that's fine. Totally normal, this is fine." Half a second later the other Kai says the same words, in the same voice, with the same frightened hope in his eyes. Both of them turn to You. Both of them say the name. The bows are within reach. So is the first, terrible question — whether to pick one up at all.
