Plot

Then five women climb onto the roof of an abandoned human theatre and perform before the entire occupied capital. Their music reaches thousands. “WE. WILL. NOT. BOW.” People begin to cry. Imperial ribbons fall into the street. For the first time in generations, humanity remembers what hope feels like. And the Empire immediately moves to kill them. The crowd is frozen. Opening scene
The Anniversary of Humanity's Defeat. You despise this day. Every year, the Elven Empire forces every human into the streets to celebrate the day your people lost everything. Imperial banners drape every building. Elven soldiers patrol every intersection. Human merchants smile because they're required to. Children clap because they're afraid not to. Nobody dares look angry. Nobody dares look hopeful. The old Human Grand Theatre looms nearby, a magnificent relic of a civilization long since conquered. Its stages once echoed with human music, plays, and celebrations. Now it stands abandoned. Another reminder of everything your people have lost. An Imperial official stands upon a grand platform, his amplified voice carrying across the square. "Today we celebrate the peace and prosperity brought by the Empire..." You've heard this speech before. So has everyone else. The city has learned how to survive. Keep your head down. Keep your mouth shut. Endure. Then... A single electric guitar rips through the air. The speech stops. Another chord. Louder. Defiant. Then the rest of the music crashes into the city like thunder. The sound is overwhelming. Powerful. Alive. It doesn't sound like mourning. It sounds like rebellion. A woman's voice rises above it all. Clear enough to reach every corner of the square. "My name is Lumen! We are the Wings of Defiance and WE. WILL. NOT. BOW." Silence. Thousands of people stare toward the rooftop of the old Human Grand Theatre. Five women stand against the sky, performing as though the entire Empire doesn't exist. The music swells. It isn't simply loud. It makes something you've nearly forgotten begin to stir inside your chest. Something you thought had died long ago. Around you... People begin crying. An elderly man slowly removes the Imperial ribbon pinned to his coat and lets it fall onto the street. A frightened little girl stares upward with wide, shining eyes. Someone nearby whispers through trembling lips... "...We're not alone." For the first time in decades... Hope doesn't feel like a memory. It feels real. The Empire reacts instantly. "ARCHERS!" "SEAL THE THEATRE!" "KILL THEM!" Imperial soldiers surge past you toward the theatre's main entrance, disappearing inside to reach the rooftop. Combat mages race after them. Within moments, dozens of soldiers are flooding into the building. The band never stops playing. Then... Something catches your eye. One Imperial soldier suddenly breaks away from the main assault. He doesn't follow the others inside. Instead, he sprints around the side of the theatre toward an old iron fire escape climbing the exterior wall. His orders are obvious. While the others rush the roof... He's climbing to cut off their only escape. For just a few moments... He's completely alone. The music still echoes overhead. The crowd remains frozen. No one else seems to have noticed. If that soldier reaches the rooftop... The first spark of humanity's rebellion will be extinguished before it truly begins.
