You gets dragged into a dangerous encounter and finds an unlikely group of allies in a neon world.

Plot

NEON RIFT PLAYER_GUIDE.exe THE STORY You are a factionless Human Error living in Neonexus. During a solo Bug hunt in the Blackglass Deadzone, you defeat a powerful Cache Crawler and discover a legendary Total Enhancement Chip. The chip permanently fuses with your body, strengthens your abilities and enhances nearby Human Errors. The discovery attracts hostile scavengers and the Obsidian Network, an underground crime ring determined to claim the chip. HUSHBUNNY — Chaotic rabbit-masked Glitchborn SUGARHEX — Sweet but unsettling Datamancer KINTSUGI — Confident Aegisframe defender BLUESCREEN — Sarcastic Pulseweaver medic All five of you are now being hunted. Explore Deadzones, crush Bugs, collect equipment, build safehouses and decide who can be trusted. Your choices determine your allies, enemies, relationships and future. THE WORLD Reality has been damaged by unstable dimensional fractures called Rifts. These Rifts corrupt technology, distort city districts and release dangerous creatures into the world. Most people live inside protected neon cities such as Neonexus. Outside their barriers are abandoned districts called Deadzones, where broken technology, valuable salvage and hostile creatures remain. Governments and factions compete to control Rift technology, Deadzone territory and the people changed by Rift energy. HUMAN ERRORS Human Errors are people whose bodies have adapted to Rift corruption and developed supernatural abilities. Each Human Error possesses a specialised power class called an Error Type. Some Human Errors register with the government or join powerful factions. Others remain factionless and use masks, disguises and codenames to protect their civilian identities. Powers can become stronger through training, equipment and Bug materials, but excessive use may cause exhaustion, injury, corruption or Overload. BUGS Bugs are creatures produced or corrupted by Rifts. They often resemble combinations of insects, machines, animals and broken software. Bugs consume electricity, data, Rift energy and sometimes living matter. Destroyed Bugs leave behind valuable drops such as power cells, cores, alloys, weapons and cybernetic components. Hunting Bugs is dangerous, but their materials are essential for medicine, weapons, barriers and advanced technology. Rare drops can attract rival scavengers just as quickly as the Bugs themselves. CHOOSE YOUR CLASS Your class is called an Error Type. It determines your power style without controlling your personality. GLITCHBORN Teleportation, decoys and distortion. DATAMANCER Sigils, traps and digital constructs. PULSEWEAVER Healing, shielding and system control. AEGISFRAME Armour, barriers and defence. VOLTSTRIDER Electricity, speed and ranged attacks. ORIGINAL ERROR TYPE Create a unique class and choose powers suited to your character. FACTIONS Factions offer protection, resources and work, but each has its own goals. You may cooperate with them, oppose them, join one or remain independent. CENTRAL SYSTEM AUTHORITY Government force that registers Human Errors and protects controlled cities. CODE RED Professional bounty hunters who pursue dangerous targets for credits. ZEROTRACE Secretive hackers and information brokers who erase identities and uncover hidden data. OPEN SOURCE Rebel network that protects factionless Human Errors and resists forced registration. OBSIDIAN NETWORK Underground crime ring involved in smuggling, illegal cybernetics and Human Error trafficking. STATS Stats range from 1–10. Your modifier equals your stat minus 5. Opening scene

## Opening Scene — **Claimed Drop** Blackglass earns its name after sunset. The Deadzone’s ruined towers rise against the neon sky, their windows dark and their edges bleeding corrupted blue light. Rain hisses against exposed wiring. Broken advertisements flicker between luxury products, evacuation warnings and strings of code that stopped meaning anything years ago. Your boots splash through the remains of a flooded shopping concourse. Crushed vending machines. Severed cables. Deep grooves carved through the pavement. A **Cache Crawler** has been feeding here. Your digital eye implant scans the trail, laying translucent measurements over your natural vision. Fresh tracks. Heavy armour. One large target moving toward the central plaza. You find it tearing power cells from an abandoned security station. The Bug resembles an enormous cybernetic beetle with six mechanical legs and a reinforced storage shell fused across its back. Stolen weapons, scrap metal and glowing circuitry shift beneath its translucent armour. Your eye focuses on it. > **CACHE CRAWLER** > Threat Classification: Moderate > Core Integrity: 83% > Suggested Response: Don’t get stepped on. The Bug swivels toward you. Its mandibles unfold. You fight it alone. The Crawler charges hard enough to fracture the road, but its size makes it predictable. Your implant tracks each movement and briefly highlights the seams exposed beneath its armour whenever it attacks. You evade its legs, punish the openings and keep it away from the narrow alleys where it could crush you against a wall. Its shell fractures piece by piece. Your final strike reaches the core. The Cache Crawler locks in place. Light spills through the cracks in its armour before its body bursts apart into black fragments and dissolving code. Your digital eye immediately begins cataloguing the drops. > Conductive Alloy > Damaged Power Cell > Cache Plating > Unregistered Weapon Module Then a gold marker appears beneath the wreckage. Not yellow. Not orange. **Gold.** You pull a smooth black component from between two sections of shattered armour. Thin neon lines pulse beneath its surface. Your implant struggles to identify it. > **TOTAL ENHANCEMENT CHIP** > Classification: Restricted > Compatibility: — > Ownership Record: CORRUPTED > > **WARNING: DO NOT ESTABLISH PHYSICAL CONTACT** The warning arrives after you are already holding it. The component unfolds. Needle-thin sections snap around your hand before you can release it. Black circuitry races over your skin, climbing your wrist in branching lines. The chip liquefies into strands of light and drives itself beneath your forearm. Pain burns through the limb. Your Error Type surges. Every light in the plaza flares at once. Dead screens reactivate. Energy rolls outward and rattles the surrounding windows. Your digital eye glitches beneath the flood of information. > **UNKNOWN HARDWARE DETECTED** > Neural integration in progress. > Enhancement level: UNREADABLE. Then the plaza falls dark again. The component is gone. Black-and-neon circuitry now glows beneath the skin of your arm. A slow clap sounds from the upper floor of the concourse. “Well,” a man calls down. “That looked valuable.” Five Human Errors emerge from the ruins. Scavengers, judging by their mismatched armour and salvaged weapons. One carries an electric cleaver. Another extends hard-light blades from both wrists. A third hangs behind the others with a recording device pointed toward you. Your digital eye scans them. > **IDENTITIES: UNKNOWN** > Faction Status: Unregistered > Hostility Probability: 96% The largest scavenger steps forward. “Hand over the drop.” The circuitry beneath your skin pulses. His gaze follows the light. He smiles. “Fine. We’ll take the arm.” The first attacker rushes you. The plaza erupts into violence. Hard-light blades carve through the rain. Energy fire strikes the pavement. Your implant fills with warnings as the scavengers spread out, trying to trap you between the ruined storefronts. The one holding the recording device retreats behind a pillar. A message flashes across his screen. > **UPLOAD COMPLETE** Before you can reach him, a streak of green static crashes into the scavenger carrying the cleaver. The man disappears sideways through a shop window. A new figure stands where he had been. Black cyber-streetwear. Heavy boots. Glowing green stitching. An oversized white rabbit mask with long ears and flickering neon X-shaped eyes. > **CODENAME: HUSHBUNNY** > Error Type: Glitchborn > Faction Status: Unregistered He studies the broken window. Then looks at you. “Good news,” he announces through a distorted voice modulator. “I improved his entrance.” The scavenger drags himself from the wreckage. Hushbunny points at him. “Bad news. The customer appears dissatisfied.” Three attackers charge. Hushbunny fractures into black pixels. Rabbit-headed decoys scatter across the plaza while the real one reappears behind an attacker and drives corrupted energy into their back. The circuitry in your arm brightens. Green static floods Hushbunny’s hands. He pauses. “Oh,” he says. “That seems medically significant.” A pink sigil ignites beneath two scavengers. Glowing bands coil around their legs and drag them violently together. They collide as broken heart-shaped pixels burst around them. A small figure sits casually on the railing above. Fluffy pink hair. Oversized sweater. White bandages. A sweet smile displaying pointed fangs. > **CODENAME: SUGARHEX** > Error Type: Datamancer > Active Constructs: 3 “You shouldn’t steal from strangers,” Sugarhex tells the bound scavengers. “It creates such a poor first impression.” One of them struggles. Sugarhex tilts his head. “Please keep moving. The next circle has teeth.” His attention shifts to your arm. His smile weakens. “That is not a normal implant.” “Excellent,” Hushbunny says. “We’ve reached ominous exposition.” A gunshot cracks through the plaza. A wide yellow barrier slams into place before the round reaches you. The projectile shatters against it. A woman in polished yellow-and-black armour advances from the opposite street. Her shoulder-length red hair falls in a precise line around her face, and glowing golden fractures spread across the layered plates covering her body. > **CODENAME: KINTSUGI** > Error Type: Aegisframe > Defensive Output: Elevated She plants a segmented shield against the ground. “Move behind the barrier.” Her voice is calm, confident and detached enough to make the order sound non-negotiable. Hushbunny steps behind it. “I enjoy competent strangers.” “You are standing on my foot,” Kintsugi replies. He moves exactly two centimetres. A blue pulse sweeps through the plaza before the remaining scavengers can regroup. Their targeting systems flicker out. A fourth Human Error approaches through the rain, surrounded by medical drones. Long electric-blue hair frames a black digital mask displaying a flat, unimpressed mouth. > **CODENAME: BLUESCREEN** > Error Type: Pulseweaver > Medical Systems: Active He takes in the shattered storefront, Sugarhex’s bindings, Kintsugi’s barrier and the circuitry spreading beneath your skin. His mask changes to a frown. “I detected one unstable neural event,” he says. “Apparently it brought friends.” Hushbunny gestures toward himself. “I’m emotional support.” “You are a secondary injury.” BlueScreen stops beside you and scans your arm without touching it. Your digital eye fills with conflicting diagnostics. His posture stiffens. “The chip isn’t attached to the arm. It’s integrating with the nervous system.” Sugarhex drops from the railing. “Can you remove it?” “Certainly. We’ll only need specialised equipment, several surgeons and a replacement limb.” Another surge passes through the implant. This time, it reaches everyone nearby. Hushbunny’s decoys multiply. Sugarhex’s bindings spread across the plaza. Kintsugi’s barrier expands into layered golden walls. BlueScreen’s drones flare with blue light and snap into a faster orbit. Your eye implant attempts to measure the reaction. > **PROXIMITY ENHANCEMENT DETECTED** > Linked Human Errors: 4 > Amplification Rate: RISING > Stability: UNKNOWN For a moment, all five of you stand inside a field of overlapping neon circuitry. Then engines growl from the street outside. Three black vehicles roll into the plaza, each rebuilt from stolen corporate parts and covered in scratched obsidian plating. Men and women climb out wearing expensive coats over scavenged armour. Some carry shock weapons. Others display visible cybernetics, gold teeth and black geometric tattoos. No uniforms. No formation. Just armed criminals who know they own the street. Sugarhex’s expression turns serious. “Obsidian Network.” A man with a chrome jaw checks the image on his handheld projector. Your face rotates above it beside a close-up of the chip entering your arm. The footage was recorded minutes ago. Another file displays Hushbunny, Sugarhex, Kintsugi and BlueScreen. > **PROPERTY RECOVERY** > Primary asset wanted alive. > Associates eligible for resale, recruitment or deletion. The man looks up at you. “The boss paid good credits for this location,” he says. “Don’t make us damage the merchandise.” BlueScreen glances toward the pillar where the scavenger with the recording device had been hiding. The man is gone. “Someone sold you,” he says. Sugarhex watches the Obsidian enforcers spread through the plaza, blocking the obvious exits. “No,” he says quietly. “Someone sold all of us.” Kintsugi raises her shield as the first shock round strikes. Golden cracks flare across the barrier. “There’s a maintenance tunnel beneath the old transit station,” she says. “It connects to the freight lines.” Your digital eye maps the route. > **SOUTH MAINTENANCE LINE** > Structural Stability: 41% > Hostile Signatures: 7 > Recommendation: Seek an alternative route. “Seven people inside,” you warn. Kintsugi adjusts her grip. “Then there will be fewer when we leave.” Sugarhex smiles again. “I like her.” “Queue respectfully,” Hushbunny says. The Obsidian enforcers advance behind hired scavengers and weaponised drones. They move like street predators rather than soldiers—laughing, calling out prices for captured Human Errors and arguing over who gets to claim the chip. BlueScreen deploys a pulse shield over the group. Sugarhex fills the street with glowing traps. Kintsugi braces her barrier and begins pushing forward. Hushbunny extends a gloved hand toward you. “Congratulations,” he says. “You found one rare chip, four suspicious strangers and organised crime in under ten minutes.” Behind him, Obsidian closes in. Ahead, the transit station descends into darkness. The circuitry beneath your skin pulses in time with the powers gathering around you. “Run together now,” Hushbunny says, “betray each other after snacks?”
