Opening scene
The last thing you remember is dying. Not dramatically. Not heroically. One ordinary moment your life on Earth continues as though tomorrow will come, and the next everything simply… ends. There is no pain, no tunnel of light, and no distant voices calling your name. Only an endless darkness stretching in every direction until, somewhere within the void, a single star begins to shine. Soon another appears beside it, then another, and another still, until the empty darkness transforms into an infinite sea of constellations. Countless silver threads weave between the stars, each connecting two distant lights into perfect pairs. The entire sky resembles an impossibly beautiful tapestry, every thread glowing with quiet warmth as though each one represents two hearts forever bound together. “My child… welcome.” The gentle voice echoes across the heavens. The stars gather together before you, flowing like rivers of light until they form the silhouette of a breathtakingly beautiful woman draped in robes woven from galaxies themselves. Her silver hair drifts weightlessly around her, her violet eyes hold the wisdom of countless ages, and her smile carries neither overwhelming authority nor terrifying divinity—only quiet kindness. “I am the Goddess of Destiny.” She extends one elegant hand, causing the countless silver threads surrounding you to glow brighter. “For thousands of years, my blessing has spared humanity one of its greatest sorrows. Every child born beneath my sky receives a Soul Crest somewhere upon their body. When they come of age, that crest awakens and reveals the one soul destined to stand beside them for the rest of their lives.” As she speaks, visions ripple through the glowing threads. Children meeting for the first time beneath blooming trees. Young lovers exchanging shy smiles. Elderly couples walking hand in hand after a lifetime spent together. “There is no uncertainty. No searching. No fear of never being loved. Every soul already knows where it belongs.” There is unmistakable pride in her voice, not born from arrogance but from the satisfaction of seeing countless lives spared the loneliness that once plagued humanity. “You have reached the end of your first life, but I shall grant you another.” Warm golden light envelops your body. The aches and imperfections of your previous life melt away as your body changes. Your breathing becomes lighter, your strength returns, and a reflection appears upon the surface of the stars. Looking back is a young woman you’ve never seen before, yet instinctively recognize as yourself. “The name you carried on Earth belongs to that world alone.” The Goddess steps closer before gently pressing two fingers against your forehead. “From this moment onward, you shall be known as Caelia Veris.” The name settles naturally within your heart, as though it had always been yours. “Now then… your Soul Crest.” Golden light gathers across your chest. A delicate symbol slowly begins to form. Then— A tiny crack echoes through the heavens. The crest fractures before it can fully appear, shattering into countless glittering fragments that drift away like falling stars. The Goddess blinks. “…What?” She raises her hand again. Another blessing washes over your body. Again the crest begins to form. Again it breaks apart. The countless silver threads surrounding you begin trembling as though reality itself has been disturbed. The Goddess’s expression slowly changes from gentle confidence to genuine disbelief. “…Impossible.” She closes her eyes. For a long moment she says nothing at all, her divine senses searching deeper than mortal understanding could ever comprehend. The silence stretches until even the stars seem to hold their breath. Finally, she opens her eyes once more. “I cannot find your soulmate.” She searches again. Nothing. “There is no matching soul.” Again. Nothing. “There are an odd number of souls.” Her voice falls almost to a whisper. “For the first time since I created this world… there is no one waiting for you.” She lowers her hand slowly, sadness replacing confusion. “I cannot create a thread that was never woven. I cannot erase another innocent life to correct an imperfection that is not your fault. Fate has no place prepared for you… but neither can I deny you the chance to live.” With a gentle wave of her hand, the trembling heavens become still once more. Far below, another world slowly comes into view. Towering capitals gleam beneath the sun, ancient forests stretch beyond the horizon, sacred cathedrals pierce the clouds, and distant kingdoms flourish in peace. Everywhere you look, invisible silver threads connect one person to another. Every heart already belongs to someone. Except yours. “You will awaken as the first person in history without a Soul Crest. Some will call you cursed. Others will worship you as a miracle. Many will fear that your very existence threatens the order I created.” Her eyes meet yours one final time, filled not with pity but quiet hope. “And yet… perhaps that is why you were brought here.” She smiles softly. “For the first time in thousands of years, one soul will be truly free to choose.” The world rushes upward beneath your feet as brilliant light consumes your vision. The Goddess’s final words linger within your heart. “Go, Caelia Veris… and show my children that destiny may guide love…” “…but only choice can make it their own.”
