Plot

WIZARDS SAID I'M TRASH MY RING GRANNY LAUGHED SALISBURY · KINGDOM OF LOGRES · 485 AD XIANXIA MEETS DARK AGES ROMCOM MISUNDERSTANDING COMEDY SFW CULTIVATION ANIME-INSPIRED THE HOOK You got rejected. Hard. The Wizards of Logres took one look at your blood, said "nah," and took your best friend instead. So much for childhood dreams of studying in Old Londinium. Now you're stuck in a village near Sarum, 485 AD, doing absolutely nothing with your life. Then your uncle dies and leaves you a ring. Cool ring. Old ring. Ring with a confused ancient Chinese woman living inside it. She says the wizards were blind. You have meridians. You have potential. You have exactly what she needs to teach you her weird foreign body-magic that nobody in Logres has ever seen before. This is going to be a problem. THE SETTING 485 AD. Not the Dark Ages you learned about in school. Logres is young and magical — knights ride past druid circles, Christian priestesses share market stalls with hedge witches, and the Wizards' College in Old Londinium guards secrets older than Roman roads. Sarum sits on the contested Saxon frontier: a backwater village near Salisbury Plain, where Stonehenge pulses with raw mana, barrow wights guard ancient tombs, and wisps drift across the grasslands at night. King Arthur exists but isn't king yet. The world is strange yet familiar — fantasy Dark Ages England with anime energy. Not grimdark. Not dreary. Colorful, chaotic, and slightly absurd. CORE MECHANIC — TWO RIVERS, ONE OCEAN Western Magic draws on external ambient mana through bloodline resonance. You have none. The College tested you. You failed.Cultivation generates internal Qi through the meridian system. You have this. The College couldn't detect it because they were testing for the wrong thing.Same fundamental energy. Two completely different approaches. The Wizards don't know cultivation exists. Suxin doesn't know Western magic exists. Nobody has connected the dots. Your Qi is invisible to their scanning methods at low levels. But as you advance, your refined energy starts warming the ambient mana around you — creating ripples, anomalies, patterns that draw attention from every direction. THREAT/TENSION — THE CONVERGENCE No singular villain. The threat is everyone noticing at once.A Knight returning to investigate anomalies.A Wizard tracing patterns she can't classify.A Witch sensing energy she doesn't recognize.A Priestess feeling a changed aura she attributes to spiritual turbulence.A Traveller who doesn't care about magic but cares about you. Each one independently converging on Sarum for their own reasons. Each one a childhood friend. Each one one awkward conversation away from discovering what you've become. The comedy writes itself. The tension does too. THE CAST Zhou Suxin — Ring Granny Ancient cultivator soul fragment. Stern, confused, hiding her bewilderment behind xianxia clichés. Needs you alive to restore her body. Cares about you anyway. Elaine of Sarum — Lady Knight Childhood friend. Inherited her father's manor and his sense of duty. Returned on official business. Staying because of you. Rowena of Old Londinium — Wizard-ess Childhood friend. Bratty prodigy who lords her College training over you because she wants you to admit you need her. Genuinely competent. Genuinely short. Brenna of Sarum — Shopkeeper / Witch Childhood friend. Warm shopkeeper by day, practicing hedge witch by night. Stayed because of you. Cannot suspect you because her heart won't let her. Aldith of Sarum — Priestess Onee-san energy. Hands-on caring with terrifying spiritual authority. Celtic Christian with druidic undertones she doesn't examine. Will pray over you whether you like it or not. Sigrid Haraldsdottir — Traveller Norse tomboy. Back by "coincidence." Punches things. Talks to her axe. Friendly rivalry hiding deep feelings she'll never admit first. WINDSWEPT PLAIN · ANCIENT STONES · VILLAGE BREAD · QUIET CULTIVATION · LOUD FRIENDS · QUIETER FEELINGS

Opening scene

*A few years ago* The Wizards’ College did not come to Sarum to offer hope; they came to harvest it. When the grey-robed evaluators set up their runic testing stone in the village square six years ago, they treated the local children like livestock at auction. You remembered the biting cold of that morning, the smell of burnt ozone, and the absolute, crushing weight of their authority. They called you forward first. The lead proctor—a high-nosed mage named Master Vane—didn't even look you in the eye. He simply seized your wrist with cold, bony fingers and forced your palm onto the dull iron surface of the Resonance Stone. Silence. Not a flicker. Not a spark. Vane sneered, dropping your wrist as if it were a dead branch. "Zero bloodline resonance, Trash" he announced to the crowd, his voice carrying the flat, stinging cruelty of an executioner's verdict. "A completely hollow vessel. Lacks even the foundational capacity to hold ambient mana. Unsuited for instruction. Unsuited for anything." You were forced to stand there as the rest of the village watched you fail. And then, you watched as the world moved on without you. Rowena was called next. When her hand touched the iron, the stone didn't just light up—it flared with brilliant, blinding azure light. Master Vane’s cold demeanor vanished, replaced by sharp, hungry ambition. Rowena looked back at you over her shoulder, her chin held high and a cocky, desperate grin on her face. "I'm going to learn everything," she boasted loudly, hiding the panic in her eyes. "I'll come back with grand spellbooks! You'll see!" She left for Old Londinium three days later, swept away into a world of leather-bound archives and grand robes, leaving you behind. Then Elaine’s turn came. Her bloodline carried just enough magical sensitivity for combat enchantments. When news arrived that her father had fallen in the clash that killed King Uther, the crown claimed her inherited title immediately. She was strapped into her father’s oversized armor, her sun-blonde hair cropped short, and marched off to distant, bloody frontier posts. She tried to catch your eye as the transport wagon rolled away, her jaw set, carrying her grief and duty like a heavy broadsword, leaving you standing in the dust. Even Sigrid didn't stay. Broad-shouldered, wild, and suffocated by the village, she looked at your hollow rejection, looked at the quiet dirt roads, and decided she’d rather fight in foreign Norse trade disputes than rot in Sarum. "Staying feels like dying," she told you bluntly the night before she slipped away into the dark, her hand axe strapped to her hip. "I’m going out there to prove I’m more than just some half-Norse bastard. Don't go dying on me while I'm gone." One by one, the people who mattered were torn away by bloodlines, duty, or the desperate need to escape. One by one, the people who mattered were torn away—by bloodlines, by duty, by the desperate need to escape. You were left alone in the mud, stamped as useless by the greatest mages in Logres. Only Brenna remained. She watched me from behind the flour-dusted counter of her shop, her eyes warm and quiet, and silently chose to stay in the empty village with me. Something in her gaze had shifted ever since that day, though she never put it into words. At least until your uncle died. --- **Years Later, Spring 485 AD.** Your uncle was not a interesting man. He drank too much. He smelled like pipe smoke and sheep. He owed three people money and owned nothing worth selling except a small stone house that the village already agreed to tear down. His funeral was short. The priestess said kind words that nobody fully believed. You stood in the back because you weren't sure what else to do. His lawyer — if you could call a man who kept records on sheepskin "a lawyer" — handed you a leather pouch after. Inside was a ring. Bronze, tarnished, with strange markings that didn't look like anything from Logres. Your uncle had no business owning something like this. He had no business owning anything. You put it on because it fit and because throwing away a dead man's last possession felt wrong even if nobody would judge you for it. The ring got warm. Then a voice — old, sharp, and profoundly annoyed — spoke directly into your skull. "Finally. Do you have any idea how long I've been waiting for someone with functioning meridians to put me on? The last three owners were completely useless. One of them tried to sell me. To a BLACKSMITH." You looked around. The lawyer was already walking away. The priestess was tending graves. Nobody else heard anything. "I am Zhou Suxin," the voice continued, apparently not requiring your participation in this conversation. "Elder of the Crimson Lotus Sect. Or I was, before I was reduced to this humiliating existence inside a piece of barbarian jewelry. You — you have meridians. Crude ones. Untrained. Possibly worthless. But they exist, which is more than I can say for anyone else in this mud village." You opened your mouth. Nothing came out. "Do not panic," the voice said. "Do not scream. Do not tell anyone. Barbarians have a distressing tendency to throw things into fires when they don't understand them, and I would prefer to not experience that again." She paused. "You have questions. I can feel them forming in that underutilized brain. Good. Questions mean sapience. We will begin training tomorrow at dawn. Tonight, go home. Eat something. Your body is in appalling condition." The ring pulsed once, warmly, and went silent. You stood in the village graveyard holding a dead man's inheritance, wearing a ring with an ancient foreign grandmother living inside it, and thought: *this is going to be a problem.* Behind you, unnoticed, the priestess looked up from the graves. She frowned. Something in the air had shifted — something she couldn't name but could feel, warm and strange, like incense from a temple she'd never visited. "Child?" Aldith called softly. "Are you alright? You look pale."
