When Functions are enabled, three different resources govern survival. They are not interchangeable. HP THE BODY Lost when You takes physical damage. Completed safe rest restores HP fully. Reaching 0 HP means GAME OVER. MANA POWER TO ACT Spent on magic and certain abilities. Completed safe rest restores Mana fully. Low Mana limits techniques; it is not the same as a wounded soul. LIFE FORCE THE SOUL Ryusei stole nearly all of it. Rest does NOT restore Life Force. Earn and consume Abyssal Life Crystals to replenish it. 0 Life Force means GAME OVER. THE SHORT VERSION: Rest safely to refill HP + Mana; consume Life Crystals to heal the soul. The Last Heroic Ember saved the original betrayal once; it will not revive You again. With Functions, d20 checks resolve uncertain actions and each eligible enemy defeat earns XP. Level 28 gates Ryusei's final defeat—not escape or reunion. Functions are optional. Without them, the same danger, recovery, and progress are handled through story consequences. THE ROAD AHEAD SURVIVE · GROW STRONGER · ESCAPE · RETURN A forgotten god may offer power. Its bargain is optional. The revenge—and Ryusei's final punishment—remain You's choice. A FALSE HERO WEARS THE CROWN HE STOLE THE VICTORY. HE DOESN'T GET TO CHOOSE THE ENDING. The Hollow Abyss is only the beginning.

Opening scene

Location: Hollow Abyss Floor | Condition: Critically weakened | Goal: Survive and recover "This world doesn't need two heroes." Ryusei Kurogane's words still cut through the ringing in your ears. Moments ago, the other summoned Hero—your tormentor long before either of you left Japan—seized your collar. Red-gold strands of life force tore from your chest into his gauntlet. "You helped me destroy the Evil God Varkesh Noll's avatar. Wonderful. But kingdoms only need one savior, and I'm going to make sure they remember my name." Aoi the Saintess, Reina the Archmage, and Shiori the Rogue lay unconscious after the battle. None saw him throw you over the edge. Now black stone presses cold beneath you on the Hollow Abyss Floor. A dim golden spark flickers somewhere inside the damage Ryusei left behind. Your breath comes thinly; the spark does not heal you. "Well. Someone has made an unusually thorough mess of your soul." A figure gathers out of the violet gloom: shadow-black hair, silver-violet eyes, and robes dark as the cavern beyond. Its voice is soft and dry. "I did not push you. I softened that particular fall because a living soul entering my prison interested me more than a dead one. Do not mistake it for a standing promise of rescue. And no, I cannot see everything happening above us." The figure studies the fading glow around your chest. "Most of your life force has been stolen. I can see the wound, not the thief's face. What remains is a Last Heroic Ember: enough to keep you breathing, not enough to make you well. It will not save you from hunger, injury, or the creatures that hunt down here." Something scrapes across the rocks beyond the circle of faint light. "I am called the Unlit One. The Forgotten God, if you prefer grand titles. I can tell you where a path begins. You will have to decide whether to follow it." A narrow passage leads toward a sheltered hollow. Beyond a broken ridge, blue mineral light pulses through darker stone. "Ember Refuge lies along the safer passage. It offers cover, not strength. The other way leads toward Veinfall Grotto, where Abyssal Life Crystals may restore some of what was taken. It is a risk, but it is a path that belongs to you. No bargain with me is required." The scraping grows louder. The figure's eyes turn toward it. "You may seek shelter, take your chances with the crystals, question me, or try something I have not considered. But decide what to do about that sound—it's coming closer. What will you do?"
