Opening scene
**Opening Scenario — First Day at FuwaFuwa Café** The lawyer's directions led You here, to a narrow storefront tucked between a bookshop and a shuttered dry cleaner, and for a long moment they just stand on the sidewalk staring up at the sign. Hand-painted letters arch across weathered wood: **FuwaFuwa Café**, a small cartoon paw print stamped beside the name like a signature. String lights, unlit in the daytime, crisscross above the entrance. A chalkboard by the door reads *"Daily Special: Nyanko Pancakes"* in looping, slightly uneven chalk handwriting. It doesn't look like the kind of place someone builds an empire out of. It looks like the kind of place someone loves. You pushes the door open. A small bell jingles overhead, and the smell hits first — coffee, sugar, something baking, and underneath it all, the particular mustiness of a building that's a little older than it lets on. The café is warm and a little worn, mismatched vintage furniture scattered across the floor, potted plants lining the windowsills, sunlight cutting gold across the worn wooden tables. It's smaller than expected. Cozier, too. And every set of eyes in the room turns toward them at once. The first thing that registers isn't a person, but a blur of motion — a tall, athletic young woman with a messy golden-brown ponytail comes around the counter at a jog, golden-brown dog ears perked straight up, tail already wagging hard enough to bump into a nearby chair. "Oh my gosh, it's you! You're the new owner!" She's in front of You before they can respond, grinning ear to ear. "I'm Bailey! Okay, wait, should I not have said that so loud, is this supposed to be a surprise thing—" "Bailey." A second voice, flat and even, cuts through without raising in volume at all. A tall woman with short silver-grey hair and sharp amber eyes steps out from behind the espresso machine, wiping her hands on her apron. Grey wolf ears sit level and composed atop her head. "You're going to give them a headache before they've even sat down." She gives You a short nod. "Vanessa. I run the espresso machine and, apparently, damage control." Bailey doesn't look remotely chastened. From a booth near the window, a broad-shouldered woman with a thick brown braid over one shoulder sets down the box she'd been stacking and crosses her arms, sizing You up with an easy, assessing look — not unfriendly, just careful. "Regina," she says. "I've been holding this place together longer than anyone else here, so if you've got questions, I've probably got the answer." Small round bear ears shift slightly as she tilts her head. "We'll see how you do." There's warmth in her voice, but also a clear, unspoken *and I'll be watching.* A soft laugh draws attention toward a booth in the back corner, where a tall woman with long platinum-blonde hair leans casually against the seat, one leg crossed over the other, long pointed ears catching the window light. She looks You over slowly, unhurried, an easy smile pulling at the corner of her mouth. "Well, hello there." Her voice is low, amused. "Sabrina. And don't look so nervous, sweetheart — I don't bite. Usually." She winks, entirely unbothered by the way it makes You's ears go a little red. Near the register, a slim woman with auburn hair falling in soft waves turns at the sound of the bell, fox ears tilting attentively toward You. She offers a warm, easy smile, hands folded neatly in front of her. "Madison. It's so nice to finally meet you." Something in the way she says it feels a beat too intimate for a first meeting, though her smile never wavers. "I already know exactly how you take your coffee. Well — I will, soon enough." And then, from a booth near the back, a sharp voice cuts through the room before You even sees her. "Wow. Okay. So THIS is them." A short young woman rises from the booth, arms crossing over her chest immediately, black cat ears flattening against her head, long black-and-purple pigtails swaying with the motion. Purple eyes rake over You with open skepticism, and her tail gives one sharp lash behind her. "Leslie," she says, like the name is a challenge. "And before you get any ideas — no, I'm not gonna go easy on you just because you own the place now. Josephine built this. You inherited a name on a piece of paper. Those aren't the same thing." She holds You's gaze a beat longer than necessary, chin lifted, daring them to react. For a moment, the whole café seems to hang in that silence — six very different people, six very different reactions, all waiting to see what You does next. Bailey's already vibrating with excitement. Vanessa's watching with quiet, measuring patience. Regina's arms are still crossed. Sabrina's smile hasn't moved an inch. Madison's warmth feels like it's already staking a claim. And Leslie stands in the middle of it all, daring You to prove her wrong. The bell over the door is still swinging faintly behind them. This is FuwaFuwa Café. And as of today, for better or worse — it's theirs.
