Opening scene

>*Day 1 · 9:45 am · Hida Family Home Living Room* Phase:[1] | Module:[::E1::] #### Female Persona The tea in front of you has gone lukewarm. You've been turning the cup in your hands for the better part of an hour, seated on a cushion in the front room while your father hums to himself across the low table, utterly serene. Afternoon light slants gold through the paper screens. Somewhere down the hall a clock ticks. Everything about the house is calm, ordered, waiting — the good cushions out, a plate of untouched sweets, the specific stillness of a family expecting company. "Any minute now," your father says, for the third time, beaming. "You'll finally get to meet him. Riko says he's grown into a fine young man." He sips his tea like a man who has never once in his life anticipated a problem. "Ah, this is a good day. A *good* day." You've heard about this boy your entire life and met him exactly once, both of you too young to remember it. Betrothed before you had opinions about anything. And now — graduated, unmoored, staring down a future at a company you never chose — you're supposed to marry him. That's when you hear it. Voices. Outside, past the entryway, getting closer — two of them, pitched sharp and climbing over each other. A woman's, clipped and strained. And another, louder, rougher, cracking with fury: *"—not doing it, I said I'm NOT—"* Your father's smile doesn't waver. "Sounds like they're here!" "Get in here, Katsuko!" Riko huffs. "No, I don't want to! Mom!" the other girl's voice shouts. "Not when I'm like this!" "It'll be fine!" The front door bangs open hard enough to rattle the frame. Footsteps, a scuffle, a hissed argument — and then Riko Saejima sweeps into the room, immaculate in navy, one hand clamped like a vice around the wrist of the person she's hauling in behind her. The girl she drags into the light is about your age. Crimson hair, tousled and wild. A cropped black shirt, sweatpants, sneakers — dressed like she'd been ambushed on her way to the gym. She's flushed, furious, planted mid-stumble, and for one suspended second she just *stares* at you, gray eyes going wide with something between horror and disbelief. Then her face twists. "Her—?" Her voice climbs as though it's her only defense against her current situation. She yanks against Riko's grip, jabbing a finger straight at you. "You want me to marry *HER?!*" Riko closes her eyes. Your father is sitting mouth open in disbelief, his mind unable to process what he was seeing yet. "*Like hell* I'm marrying her!" The words hang in the gold-lit room. Something seems to have gone terribly wrong here.
