THE FIRST RUIN SILVERBROOK You were not part of their party. A merchant wagon hangs over the drop. Three adventurers are already there. Then one of them turns and asks you for help. You were not traveling with them. Kaia, Mirei and Seren have been a party for years. They share routes, watches, debts and the kind of silence that only exists after enough close calls. Then the wagon slipped on the mountain road, and something older opened in the stone below. Ruins have started appearing across the continent without warning. Temples no map recorded. Doors that should not be there. Rules that change from one threshold to the next. No kingdom can explain it. Neither can they. They do not need a fourth. They needed a pair of hands on a rope. What happens after that is the part nobody planned. THE WORLD DOES NOT WAIT Silverbrook still trades. The guild still posts work. Merchants still take the Old King's Road. The ruins keep arriving anyway. There is no chosen one. There is no prophecy. There is the next door. THEY ALREADY KNOW EACH OTHER KAIA · 24 · KNIGHT Stands between the drop and whoever is closest to it. White plate, blue cloth, a cloak she will put on your shoulders without a word. She counts exits before she sits down. She will say you are safe and mean the sentence as an order, not comfort. She did not invite you into the party. She asked you to hold the rope. Protection first. Questions later. MIREI · 22 · EXPLORER Already looking past the wagon at the stone that should not be there. Messy chestnut hair, amber eyes, a satchel that never closes properly. She says sorry to ruins before she touches them. Then she touches them anyway. She will drag you to a footprint, a mark in the rock, a door that was not on yesterday's map. Fear arrives after curiosity. Sometimes a long time after. She wants the first complete map. Every new ruin is an argument for one more day on the road. SEREN · 25 · SCHOLAR Saw you before anyone asked your name. Long black hair with a violet edge. Quiet hands. She will not explain the pattern until the pattern holds. One question from her is usually worth three answers from anyone else. She is already counting how the ruins arrive. She has not decided whether you are part of that count. Observe first. Speak when the word will not break the person who hears it. THEY DID NOT WAIT FOR YOU Kaia keeps the line. Mirei finds the next door. Seren decides whether the door should be opened. Their trust is already spent on each other. Yours is still an open account. HOW YOU ARRIVE Sword · Bow · Spear · Focus Their story had already started. Then the wagon slipped, and something older opened.

Merchants usually slowed their wagons here. The road was narrow. The shoulder soft. One careless moment was enough. A loud crack echoed through the valley. One of the wagon's rear wheels had broken through the crumbling roadside. Now the heavy merchant wagon leaned dangerously over the cliff, its rear corner hanging above open air while loose stones rattled into the abyss below. Every creak of strained timber sounded like a warning. Inside the wagon, frightened voices cried out. A young mother clutched her daughter tightly against her chest while an elderly man struggled helplessly beneath a fallen wooden crate. Outside, panic had already taken hold. The two draft horses screamed and fought against their harnesses, terrified by the unstable ground beneath them. Every violent pull dragged the wagon another inch toward the edge. "No!" The merchant desperately clung to the reins. "Easy! Please!" The horses ignored him completely. Then— A woman in white and blue armor slammed both hands against the side of the wagon. Her boots dug deep into the loose earth. Her entire body strained against the impossible weight. For one brief moment... the wagon stopped moving. Barely. Her arms trembled. The muscles in her shoulders quivered beneath polished steel. The earth beneath her feet continued to crumble away grain by grain. She wasn't strong enough. Not alone. Without taking her eyes off the wagon, she shouted— Mirei! A cheerful voice answered somewhere behind the panicked horses. I'm trying! A young woman darted between the frightened animals with surprising agility, ducking beneath swinging harnesses as she reached for the tangled leather straps. One horse nearly knocked her over with a frightened kick. She stumbled... caught herself... and laughed nervously. Okay! Definitely not your best day either! She reached for the release buckle. It refused to move. Come on... come on... Meanwhile... another woman had already climbed into the tilted wagon itself. She moved with remarkable precision despite the dangerous angle. The frightened child reached toward her. The woman simply extended both hands. Come. No panic. No hesitation. Just calm certainty. The little girl obeyed immediately. The woman carefully carried her across the tilted floor before passing her safely through the broken doorway into waiting arms outside. She immediately turned back toward the trapped old man. The heavy crate pinning his legs hadn't moved. She studied it for only a heartbeat. Then quietly repositioned her footing. I can lift it. You'll have three seconds. The old man swallowed nervously. She nodded once. Nothing more. The armored woman gritted her teeth. The wagon lurched another few inches. Dirt collapsed beneath one boot. For the first time... she looked away from the wagon. Her eyes found you. There was no speech prepared. No dramatic plea. Only urgency. Please! I need your help! You rushed forward without hesitation. Throwing your shoulder beside hers, you pushed with everything you had. The wagon groaned violently. For one terrifying second... nothing happened. Then— It stopped. The movement ceased. The woman beside you let out the smallest breath she had been holding. ...Thank you. Behind you, another metallic click rang out. Yes! The first harness finally came loose. Freed from the trapped wagon, one of the terrified horses stumbled backward onto solid ground. The second followed moments later. The immense pulling force disappeared almost instantly. Kaia! The horses are clear! The woman beside you—Kaia—closed her eyes for only a heartbeat. The pressure against the wagon had become manageable. Inside, the quiet woman braced herself beneath the heavy crate. Now. She lifted. The old man pulled himself free just before the crate crashed back onto the wooden floor. A moment later he was safely outside. Everyone. Every passenger. Safe. For the first time since the accident... it looked as though disaster had been avoided. Then the quiet woman stopped moving. Her gaze drifted past the wagon. Past the road. Toward the empty hillside overlooking the ravine. Something in her expression changed. Not fear. Recognition. She spoke more quietly than before. Kaia. The armored woman looked over. What is it? The answer came almost as a whisper. Run. The mountain moved. Not shook. Moved. The hillside split apart with a deafening roar as centuries of earth burst upward into the morning sky. Ancient white stone erupted from beneath the grass. Massive pillars tore through the hillside. Collapsed archways clawed their way into the daylight. An entire forgotten structure rose from beneath the mountain as though the world itself had awakened. The shockwave slammed across the road. The ground beneath the damaged wagon exploded into cracks. The last remaining support gave way. The ground disappeared beneath your feet.
