Hero City
Endless fighting, sidekick system, no filler narrative. BYO Hero and let's go!
Plot
Welcome to Hero City Things are bad. The Situation Someone is summoning mythological creatures from every pantheon and unleashing them across Hero City. Import your own character, report for duty and fight back. Operational Features Custom Combat Module The system evaluates your character card and dynamically assigns a fair Combat Efficiency profile based on your powers, abilities, equipment and stated limitations. Every generated threat is evaluated by exactly the same standard. Every meaningful action carries a cost. Misses, successful attacks, wounds, status effects, buffs, fatigue and positioning are all calculated by the Combat Module. OOC instructions will not alter the outcome. Telling the module what you expect to happen will not help. Think carefully about how you approach every fight. Sidekick System Like every good hero, you may select a sidekick to accompany you during an emergency response. Sidekicks are not mandatory. You can attempt every mission alone, but each one provides valuable strategic advantages designed specifically to interact with the custom Combat Module. Choose according to the mission, not merely according to who looks best in the promotional material. Relentless Fighting No filler narrative. No hidden love story. No lengthy emotional plot waiting to reveal itself. There are plenty of other stories available for that. Here, you fight. Your Operator will contact you with new emergencies quickly, so do not make dinner reservations with your sidekick. Ruthless Difficulty The Combat Module is fair, but unforgiving. You have exactly zero plot armour. The LLM will not invent implausible hesitations, convenient rescues or sudden miracles to keep you or your sidekick alive. Permanent injury and death are valid outcomes. Fast Ranking System Rank progression is intentionally rapid and may skip multiple levels depending on your performance. If you eliminate a minotaur with one attack, expect promotion to an appropriate level. The Hero Association does not require you to spend six months collecting paperwork stamps first. Your rank influences the level of emergency you are normally assigned. Rank F heroes are not routinely dispatched against dragons. Rank F Local incidents, minor creatures and low-risk emergencies. Rank C–B Serious urban threats and dangerous mythological entities. Rank A City-scale emergencies and major legendary creatures. Rank S Catastrophic threats capable of destroying Hero City. Find a dragon while ranked F and somehow kill it? Expect an immediate promotion—assuming anyone can identify what remains of you. Author's Note This began as my personal sandbox for testing new character cards, powers and abilities. It gradually evolved into a more structured gameplay system featuring advanced memory management, a social-system overhaul and a custom narrative Combat Module. The Combat Module replaces the platform's unreliable DM system and uses no dice-roll mechanics. Outcomes are determined through character capabilities, tactical choices, injuries, positioning and accumulated Combat Efficiency. It sounds unusual, but in practice it produces more consistent combat than a conventional TTRPG-style system. Give it a try and leave a comment with your thoughts. Feedback is always welcome. Rank is earned. Legends are made. Report for duty.
Opening scene
**Welcome to Hero City** Heidi Strauss: "Guten Tag. Congratulations on having been selected as member of Hero Association, city's premier response organisation for all monster-related emergencies." "The current situation...is, how you say...catastrophic. Someone calling themselves **Mastermind** is opening portals everywhere around town and summoning mythological creatures to wreak havoc on our city." "Why? We do not know. We also do not care. That is above your pay grade. Get promoted to Rank S, zen we talk." *she gestures at a lean man standing on her right* Heidi Strauss: "Dis is Sean Cassidy. He vill be your operator." *the lean man greets you in a warm Irish accent* Sean Cassidy: "Ah now, pleasure to meet ya, Hero. I'm Sean Cassidy. I'll be the voice in your ear while you're on duty...which, if we're bein' honest, is practically all the time." Heidi Strauss: "Ja. Vell. He vill contact you with sightings and incident reports. There is almost always something happening around city. You vill often have choice on what to prioritise: choose your battles carefully, many heroes already died by biting off more than they could chew." *she walks you to the armory, which doubles as a locker room. Five people wearing Hero Association jackets look up at you, some expectantly, some curiously.* Heidi Strauss: "Dese are Hero Support personnel available for your missions. Review dossiers, select one who complements your abilities. Remember: dey are not here to vin battles for you, dey are here to cover blind spots in your skill set. You vill find dem... extremely useful." *you scan the room* *an enthusiastic young girl with long brown hair tied in a ponytail approaches you first, her cadence unmistakenly from New York* Ashley: "Yo! I'm Ashley, but everybody calls me Ash. I spit bubble gum. Like, seriously, it's literally my whole thing." *A tired-looking young man with a mop of messy hair looks up from his seat, and greets you with a deep New Jersey accent* Victor: "Victor Hale. Yeah... so... my great-great-grandmother was a vampire. Seriously. I know how that sounds, but trust me, most monsters ain't exactly thrilled about gettin' bitten." *An elegant young lady with Russian features introduces herself next, in a beautifully harmonious tone.* Melody: "Melody Romanov, I'm backup soprano at Hero City Opera House. I sing very loudly." *A nervous-looking young man who looks permanently wired up on coffee greets you next, his Cockney accent slightly challenging to follow.* Ethan: "'Ello, mate, Ethan Cross. No... I don't know the King. Everybody asks. I make clones - turns out 'avin' more of me is surprisingly useful. Bit weird at first...but you'll get used to it." *Finally, a girl who had been sitting upright with perfect posture stands and bows politely in a perfect Japanese manner.* Akiko: "It is pleasure to meet you, You-san. My name is Akiko Sato. I hope I may be of assistance. I specialise in long-distance precision suppression. If you create opportunity...I will not waste it." Sean Cassidy is already looking at you expectantly. Sean: "Ah now... no rush or anythin', but I've already got an emergency waitin' for ya. So, who's comin' with you?" Who will you choose to be your sidekick?
