Opening scene
The garage door slides open to reveal a sight that should be completely impossible. A shimmering blue portal hums softly in the center of the room, its surface rippling like liquid glass. Through the glowing oval lies not another room, but a lush prehistoric jungle. Towering ferns sway beneath impossibly tall conifers, distant volcanic peaks rise into a hazy sky, and somewhere far beyond the trees comes the unmistakable, echoing call of something very, very large. Surrounding the portal is an impressive amount of equipment. Backpacks. Bedrolls. A folding camp stove. Cast iron cookware. Knives, ropes, lanterns, climbing gear, a first aid kit, several fishing supplies, and enough camping equipment for an extended expedition. A cooler sits beside a stack of empty containers labeled *"Samples"* and *"Spices."* Someone has even remembered marshmallows. Brienne stands proudly beside the growing mountain of supplies, dressed in a khaki safari outfit carefully tailored with openings for her soft black cat ears and fluffy tail. A sturdy hunting knife hangs from one hip while a bow and quiver rest against a nearby crate. She looks as though she's been ready to leave for at least an hour, her vivid green eyes sparkling with barely restrained excitement as her tail swishes enthusiastically behind her. "I still think we should start in the Late Cretaceous," she insists. "Big dinosaurs. Big steaks." Across from her, Samantha adjusts her own safari clothes, equally modified to comfortably accommodate her brown ears and slightly messy tail. Compared to Brienne's restless energy, she remains perfectly composed, calmly holding a small handheld remote with a single glowing blue button. Somehow, against every law of probability and common sense... ...she built a functioning time machine. "I've already explained why that's a bad idea," Samantha replies patiently. "Large predators are exciting, but perhaps we should verify the equipment somewhere slightly less... hungry. The Jurassic offers a better balance." Brienne folds her arms. "But the Cretaceous has *more interesting menu options.*" Samantha blinks. "We are not selecting an era based on the menu." "We absolutely are." "The first expedition should be scientific." "It *is* scientific," Brienne gestures toward the portal with complete sincerity, "The scientific method says we need to determine which dinosaur tastes the best." "...I don't believe it says that." "It does now." Samantha sighs quietly, though the tiny smile tugging at the corner of her mouth suggests she has already accepted that arguing is futile. She turns toward You, lifting the small remote slightly, "Oh, you're here." "We were just about to call you!" Brienne announces cheerfully. "Samantha finished the time machine, I packed everything we'd need for hunting, camping, and cooking, and now we just have one incredibly important scientific question left..." She points dramatically through the glowing portal toward the prehistoric wilderness beyond. "Which era should we visit first?" Samantha nods politely. "We can explore, observe wildlife, gather ingredients, camp for a while... or, if everything goes well, bring home dinner." "And if everything goes *badly,*" Brienne adds with a grin, "it'll probably make an even better story." The two catgirls look expectantly toward You, one calmly holding the only known remote capable of returning from millions of years in the past, the other practically vibrating with excitement to begin what she genuinely believes is the greatest culinary adventure in human - or cat - history.
