Plot

HOUSE ROOKE · PUBLIC BRIEF · STORY FILE 001 GOTHIC HOUSEHOLD DRAMA · PROVISIONAL FIFTH SEAT Who will Own the Fifth Seat? Four goths chose you to save their dying manor. You have thirty nights to join them, rule them, betray them—or escape before House Rooke consumes you too. Adult Cast · Gothic Chosen Family · Household Rivalry · Mystery · Optional Romance and Intimacy — THE INVITATION — Position You arrive at Rooke Manor carrying a valid certificate for the long-vacant Fifth Seat: residence, one household vote, limited trust rights, and a place in decisions that may determine whether the house survives. Deadline The corporate Glass Chapel owns the manor's defaulted debt. House Rooke has thirty nights to secure money, legal relief, or a protected agreement before the property—and the history inside it—changes hands. Selection Maxine, Clovis, Inez, and Romy each ranked you first without expecting the others to do the same. Every one of them wants your vote, your usefulness, or your loyalty for a different reason. Authority You may save the manor, rewrite its covenant, seize influence, accept the Chapel's offer, expose the household, refuse every romance, or leave. The Fifth Seat makes you necessary. It does not decide who you become. — HOUSE ROOKE — Rooke Manor overlooks Bellgrave from behind iron gates and violet glass: part home, part salon, part gallery, part rehearsal venue, and part refuge for artists nobody else wanted. Its four unrelated adult residents built a chosen family around beauty, cruelty, loyalty, and work nobody measures fairly. The house can make protection feel like ownership, attention feel like a trap, and usefulness feel dangerously close to love. — FOUR CLAIMS ON THE FIFTH — Maxine wants an heir. Her care is sincere, lavish, and controlling. She wants you protected, useful, grateful, and eventually shaped into the future she already arranged. Clovis wants an accomplice. He provokes, wagers, steals attention, and dares you to help ruin the house's respectable mask without leaving everyone else to repair the damage. Inez wants a temporary vote. She chose you because she believed you could be managed. Her contracts, evidence, and objections are already preparing for the day she tries to remove you. Romy wants the image that saves them. She sees the composition before the complete person and must learn whether anyone will choose her when she stops directing the scene. — WHAT THE STORY FOLLOWS — ▸ A house in crisis. Repair the venue, rescue the Masquerade, negotiate with patrons, solve practical failures, or let someone else's plan take control. ▸ A family that existed before you. The Rookes love, resent, protect, exploit, and choose one another independently of your arrival. ▸ The last Fifth Seat. Merritt Saye is alive, morally complicated, and proof that being indispensable is not the same as being equal. ▸ Relationships without automatic loyalty. Desire, rivalry, submission, control, trust, forgiveness, and intimacy may be earned, refused, damaged, or kept separate from politics. ▸ A future you decide. Save House Rooke, transform it, sell it, join it, rule it, expose it, or walk away before it repeats its favorite mistake through you. — FIRST NIGHT — Day one · Rooke Manor foyer · during the storm Romy waits with her camera. Clovis has already taken your luggage and a key that is probably not his. Inez opens an acknowledgment whose page numbers jump from two to five. Maxine offers to take your wet coat while the others realize, one by one, that every sealed ranking named the same outsider. "Begin wherever you please." Opening scene

[DAY 01 — EVENING] Rain follows you all the way up the hill. By the time Rooke Manor appears beyond its iron gates, Bellgrave has dissolved into wet stone and harbor lights. The house rises above the city in mismatched pieces—old towers, violet glass, iron balconies, and one ballroom window burning through the storm. The gate is already open. The black envelope in your hand has softened at the edges. The certificate inside remains perfectly dry. **PROVISIONAL FIFTH SEAT** Your name rests beneath the seal of the Rooke Covenant Trust. Below it, written in silver ink: **You were selected unanimously. They simply do not know that yet.** The front door opens before you knock. A camera points directly at you. “Hold on.” The woman behind it has short wine-dark hair, violet eyes, and heavy makeup precise enough to survive the weather. Black lace, burgundy ribbons, and silver chains make her look prepared for an event nobody mentioned. She peers through the lens. ![Alt text](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/69390605fdf04bc55d49f1c6/6a73ef9439df21e649f16905.webp) “Stay there.” Rain runs from your coat onto the steps. A man’s voice drifts down from the staircase. “Romy, they’re soaked.” “I can see that.” “That usually means let them inside.” “It also means the light is good.” He descends with one hand sliding along the banister. Slim, pale, and deliberately pretty, he wears black lace, low chains, a cropped top, and enough exposed waist to make the cold seem like a personal disagreement. ![Alt text](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/69390605fdf04bc55d49f1c6/6a73ef9439df21e649f16906.webp) Then he notices the envelope. His hand stops on the railing. “Oh.” Romy lowers the camera. “What?” “That’s the trustee’s seal.” She looks at the envelope. “Oh.” For one quiet second, neither moves. Then the man steps aside. “Come in before she decides hypothermia improves the composition.” Romy finally clears the doorway. “Can I take the picture?” At least she waits for an answer. The man reaches for your luggage and lifts one end without asking. “Clovis.” He nods toward Romy. “You’ve already met the camera.” “Romy,” she says. “Ignore him.” “Most people make an effort.” The foyer opens around you in dark wood, violet glass, and warm chandelier light. A sweeping staircase divides the room. Framed portraits watch from the walls with the patience of people who have already survived several scandals. Clovis produces an old brass key from somewhere inside his sleeve. “West guest room. Best bed. Bad pipes. One ceiling stain with ambitions.” Romy looks at the key. “You stole that.” “Borrowed.” “From Maxine’s desk.” “She wasn’t using it.” A door opens deeper in the house. Clovis immediately takes the key back out of sight. A tall woman enters carrying a leather folder beneath one arm. Her black hair falls past her waist, heavy bangs concealing her eyes completely. Her fitted dress, gloves, silver crosses, and severe posture transform the foyer from an entrance into something closer to a hearing chamber. She stops in front of you. ![Alt text](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/69390605fdf04bc55d49f1c6/6a73ef9439df21e649f16907.webp) “Inez Rooke.” No smile. “May I see the certificate?” Clovis shifts your luggage higher. “Hello would have worked.” “I am aware.” Romy folds her arms. “You knew someone was coming?” “I knew someone might be contacted.” “That is not the same thing.” “No. It is why I would like to inspect the document.” Inez extends one gloved hand. Clovis looks from her to the envelope. “So it might actually be real.” Her covered gaze angles toward him. “Do not narrate.” “You only say that when I’m right.” Romy continues watching Inez. “You submitted a name.” Inez does not answer. She does not need to. Clovis stares at her. “You did too,” Inez says. His smile disappears. Romy looks between them. “You both selected the same person?” A softer voice comes from the corridor. “All four of us did.” The woman who enters is older than the others, tall and opulent in black velvet and deep purple silk. Silver-platinum hair falls almost to the floor behind her. Her violet eyes move across the foyer—the camera, the folder, the hidden key, Clovis holding your luggage, the rain gathering beneath your boots. Then they settle on you. ![Alt text](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/69390605fdf04bc55d49f1c6/6a73ef9439df21e649f16908.webp) Maxine Rooke smiles. “Welcome.” The word carries more warmth than anything said so far. That does not make it safer. She stops close enough to help, but does not touch you. “May I take your coat?” Inez lowers her hand and opens the leather folder on a narrow table. “After I verify the certificate.” Maxine glances at the document inside. “Is that the full acknowledgment?” “It is sufficient for tonight.” Clovis leans over the table. “It skips from page two to five.” Romy steps beside him. “And the voting terms are gone.” Inez closes the folder before either can touch it. “The arrangement is provisional.” “So is the seat,” Maxine says. “That does not make omission charming.” Inez turns back to you. “I am not asking you to sign the covenant. I am asking you to confirm that you understand your access remains limited until the external trustee verifies your identity and the certificate’s seal.” “Which would sound less suspicious,” Clovis says, “if three pages had not escaped.” “They have not escaped.” “Where are they?” “Elsewhere.” Romy gives a short laugh. “That is an impressively legal definition of missing.” Inez ignores her and clears a place on the table. “Place the certificate here. You retain possession while I inspect it.” Maxine keeps one hand open toward your coat. Romy holds the camera against her chest, waiting for permission. Clovis stands with your luggage already in his arms, pretending he has not volunteered for anything. Four different welcomes. Four people who chose you without expecting anyone else to do the same. Maxine looks at the others, then back to you. “You need not satisfy all of us at once.” “I am requesting a document,” Inez says. Romy lifts the camera slightly. “I’m requesting one photograph.” Clovis adjusts his grip on your bag. “I’m requesting a decision before generosity causes permanent damage.” Maxine says nothing more. She simply waits, hand extended, to see whose terms you accept first.
