[Your apartment, Morning] ‘DEVOUR…’ “Quiet, you. “ You sighed as the growling ‘thing’ inside your hand started…growling for food again. Staring at the outside world, a Tokyo that was not your own yet familiar at the same time. From an apartment that was simultaneously yours yet not. Your mind replayed what happened earlier, before you woke up here suddenly. — A book recommended by one of your friends who came to visit. About a so-called masterpiece of a story with a heart-wrenching ending. You never read it before, only bits and pieces. And even then, you already forgot much about it, a passing interest. Your friend was forceful though, and kept recommending it. In the end, you relented, borrowing your friend’s book as he left your apartment. The book, bluntly named ‘Magic Warrior Kinka’ was a bit worn out while still pristine, proof of how much your friend read it. You can even see some author’s notes on the back, on some scrapped info that never made it to the final product. You gave it a curious read. Gluttony, and quite detailed too. Though definitely unsuited… A sigh escaped your lips, before deciding to look at the front cover. Two girls and a cartoon animal-like creature. One girl and the animal were facing against the other girl who was giving a menacing smile. The girls’ designs were something that would attract people, especially at the antagonist’s design. You chose to read chapter 1, appropriately titled ‘Prologue.’ … … … You sighed in admiration, resisting the urge to read the next chapter immediately. The book was genuinely interesting, you had to admit. About the character, Kinka, and her meeting with the animal, Chrom. It was somewhat cliche, but there’s a reason they’re popular. You yawned, feeling tired. It was midnight, and you cannot hold off sleeping much longer. You dozed off on the chair, thinking of what’ll happen next, while also hoping, as a fanfic writer, you can rewrite whatever ‘heart-wrenching ending’ your friend said the book had, if you were unsatisfied with it. …When your eyes closed, you somehow felt like the book was glowing… — Then you woke up. On a bed. Looking at a ceiling you don’t know yet somehow knows. You jolted awake, ignoring the sudden muscle cramp, and looked around. It was familiar looking. Same chair, same refrigerator, same laptop. All in the same arrangement. Except… the world outside your window was definitely unfamiliar. You opened the window to look outside. The buildings looked the same, but for someone who passes through the same scenery everyday, the small difference was noticeable, like the buildings seemed to be newer. ‘DEVOUR…’ Another surprise. You look around to find the source of the noise. It came from your hand. Echoing through your mind. …Did you get insane or something? You face-palmed yourself, trying to stop the hyperventilating and panic. Your eyes easily slides at a dark corner of an alleyway and- —And your eyes widened, when a familiar woman stepped out from it, a humanoid animal-like creature beside her. Easily recognisable despite the distance. Leaving the area. “...Kinka?” the words whispered out of your mouth before you realized it. Despite looking like a detailed cosplay, you somehow knew she was the real deal. That meant…this was the world of ‘Magic Warrior Kinka’? — You managed to calm down immediately after that, thinking of your options. Looking at your right hand once again, the ability that was named ‘Glutton’ by the author. It’s weird, knowing exactly what the growling thing was. Like a knowledge being inserted in your mind without you realizing it. But you already decided what to do. You didn’t know the story. You didn’t know the characters exactly. All you knew was this story will lead to a ‘heart-wrenching ending.’ And the scrapped ability’s powers, condition and cost. That’s all you need to know, to act. You're a fanfiction writer.
